I'll take "Tell me you dont know what youre talking about without telling me you dont know what your talking about" for $500, Alex.

And seeing emails from say, Jomashop, talking about how they've dropped Rolex prices….says enough for me. And a quick review of watch recon.

You really need to read "Class" by Paul Fussell.

See the above book recommendation. It's a solid read, and ive experienced something very similar, and repeatedly. For example, any good salesman should not immediately dismiss someone based on dress. That's a VERY good way to miss out on a sale/relationship. If anything, if someone comes in "oozing" money, i'd be concerned about them actually having any sort of coin to their name if i was going to judge up front at all.

There are tons of options for solid things around 800 or less. Or if you creep up just a bit, even more.

I recently bought one of the all SS classic G Shocks and love it. Im in an industrial environment a couple times a week so i dont want to beat up another watch with it.

I don't agree that you have to buy watches to hold value or that it needs to be 8k and up, but at the same time buying a movado, shinola, and similar stuff is just lighting money on fire. You're either in the $300 to $500 casio/timex/seiko market or you jump up to the big leagues. Almost everything in that $600 to $1,000 range is aids.

Funny you should mention this. I had my AD call me and send me a text to "Call her when i got a chance!". Something tells me the rolex steel sports craze is cooling off with the rest of the market.

Sitting on my DJ41 which seems a little distasteful these days, my tudor chronograph which is a great dailydriver but not the most comfortable watch, then I have my grandseiko GMT which I love and wear when I'm going out with more "normal" people. I'm still allergic to the submariner, but i think i could be tempted with a simple black dial OP41. I'm not really trying to spend 5 figures on a watch in this economy.

Gordo didnt come off as trying to make a crass point in my opinion. lol. It was just….anything less than this is aids or a crap watch (seikos….casio…etc). But i may be wrong. Just assuming Gordo's usual over the top-ness.

And market is definitely cooling a little it seems. just looking through watch recon at BLNR's and the "low" number is creeping lower consistently with those.

I hope it's cooling. Only thing I'd probably go pickup right now would be the Skydweller. Maybe I'll actually get a shot at that

You weren't interested in buying that bluesy? That'd be hard to pass up on if I saw one in person being offered to me.

Nothing that blows me away.
my thoughts on the new releases (inb4 no one cares):

– proportions on the new daytona look off, but the transparent caseback looks pretty cool
– 1908 looks nice but let's be real no one is going to buy it and it's going to rot just like the cellini
– ym 42 is the most tudor-esque rolex i've seen in a while
– the new sky-dweller in rose gold with that blue-green dial is hnnnngggggg
– new gmt-master references are meh
– explorer 40 is interesting and i might have to try it on. proportions look way better than the old explorer 39 imo
– new day-date variants look ugly af
– that polka dot OP and the day-date with the jigsaws and the emoji date window…uwotm8? someone must have been popping acid at work

They've done some weird stuff with the OP before. It's their entry-level watch.

I like the new Skydweller color, but just LMAO at the markup for gold. $15k for stainless vs $50k for white gold. Come on man.

Also, I like the 1908. But I feel like it's intended to do what the Calatrava does. "Oh, you want a sports model? Buy this $20k dress watch and we'll put you on the wait list".

That platinum Daytona is pure sex and my grail for sure. The others. Meh.

But the day date 36’s do look awesome to me but too dam small. In 40 they’d be perfect but extremely expensive with all that ICE.

The white stainless Daytona looks kinda funny, but only when compared right next to the old 116500LN. Standing by itself it still looks good. The black stainless and other precious metals still look good.

Not a fan of the clear caseback though. Rolex movements arent really that intricate to look at and the clear case back thing has always seemed kinda gimmicky to me. How often do you really spend looking at the back of the watch?

H Moser vs. JLC for a $10-15k dress watch? What do you brahs think? Feels to me like Moser is a little more special than JLC and has possibly the best finishing (especially the movement) of any watch in its price range, but JLC is the safe/popular choice

I went to a private Grand Seiko event at a jeweler last night. Sushi, Japanese Whisky, Watches. Saw the new GS Chronograph.

I fell in love with the Grand Seiko Peacock though.
