Nice. If you really like the Longines, buy what you like. Just out of curiosity, have you looked into some of the other Omegas with your discount? Some of the Seamaster Chronos and a few of the Speedy's (not the Pro) like the Mark II or Racing are all very decently priced IMO.

i think thats titanium. it looks great. if you can really get 40% off on it, do it. its a great deal. if you can get 30% off on it, its still a pretty good deal.

edit: by 40% off are you talking about 35% off plus VAT Back?

do not buy expensive filler. if you have your heart set on something get that. if its out of your budget, then stretch your budget or wait until it is within your budget. the more money and time you spend buying filler, the farther you will be from your goal

I do? [ Or are you the resident TAG lover here? Then yes I do and you're a ****. Otherwise I really don't have an issue with you man]

Wholeheartedly agree with your statement btw.

Its 40% plus the 10% tax we pay in Chicago.

Price wise the closest thing the Longines in terms of price is thee most basic of Seamaster and I already have similar style of watch.

I appreciate the feedback guys.

It's just another re-release like just about everything else Omega released this year. The design is 'inspired' by the original Globemaster from the 1950's and 1960's (which was actually just a pie-pan Connie). Take vintage design, throw in the now ubiquitous co-axial movement, and slap a $8k retail price on it.

The marketing behind it is pretty savvy tho.

Suggestions on my first 10k watch? Currently in the market. I feel a datejust ii is a good start. I'd love a panerai and a Patek later on, but for now I just want a nice starter that I like and will get noticed.

This exact set up is what I had in mind. Fluted, white gold/stainless, black dial. Opinions?

Just my opinion, but I'd probably pick what I liked the best first. If that's a Rolex, get it. But don't get a Rolex just because it's a Rolex

Edit: For me, I'd buy a Panerai first. But first lemme finish school

Its about as safe a choice as you can make. Personally I think there's a lot more interesting options once you get in that price range but if a Rolex is a Rolex.

For 10k I would more go towards JLC. Much more interesting designs, and a lot more watch for the money.

My wildcard recommendation for $10k:
- Buy 10k worth of watches from Kabananga. I'll give you a couple of JLC's (2 full set Memovoxes, military dial, Powermatic, Master Mariner,…) and an 18k Vacheron Constantin for the price.

Semisrs.
SRS
I'm going to San Diego (and Cali in general) in 2 weeks from now, will take some watches with me. I'm down to meet more watch brahs. So far I've already met 5 brahs of the crew.

My suggestions for 10k:
- JLC MUT Moon 39
- JLC MUT Reserve de Marche
- Buy a used DJ for $2-3k, spend the remaining 7k on hookers and blow in TJ
- Buy a used DJ for $2-3k, spend the remaining 7k on Speedmaster (new or used)
- Buy a used DJ for $2-3k, spend the remaining 7k on used sub
- Buy a used DJ for $2-3k, spend the remaining 7k on used Reverso
- Buy a used DJ for $2-3k, spend the remaining 3k on used vintage VC, keep 4-5k
- Buy a used DJ for $2-3k, spend the remaining 7k on …

No hate, but you should buy the watch for yourself, not for others. My advice would be to shop and look around a lot before you pull any triggers. Try out plenty of watches. It's not just about looks, but also size and comfort etc. Pics and real life can differ a lot. Not sure what the situation is in San Diego, but in LA you have the South Coast Plaza, which has a ****ton of watch boutiques, including PP, VC and ALS, so definitely worth checking out.

Anyway, if you want your watch to get noticed, strap a Harley Davidson to it.

semisrs. Most people don't notice watches, only watch people do. That being said, the Submariner, Daytona and DJ on twotone (Rolesor) jubilee are some of the most recognizable designs. So buying a nice watch won't mean that everyone suddenly turns around and notices you, let alone the not even 2" piece of metal on your wrist. But if you drop 10k on a watch (and you don't go full retard), you will always have bragging rights to whatever is on your wrist (= whatever you say about whichever watch (make) will always be countered by a 'nice').

Hey guys. First of all let me say that I'm nowhere near as fascinated with watches as you guys, and I'd never buy a $1k watch. So I'm kind of out of sync with this thread.

Regardless, I'd like to hear what you think about this modern citizen watch I might get for my birthday:

I like the combination of bold and sober, but what do watch aficionados think about a watch like this? It's a 42mm casing.

Let me know if this breaks the rules for "no horological value". I know it's a cheap watch but it's a citizen and that brand has some credibility if I'm not wrong.

42mm is generally huge for a watch with such a small bezel, but I'd reserve judgement until I saw it on your wrist. I like the big visible numbers. Is that by chance a PVD watch? If so, be aware of the coating coming off.

Anyways, I went to the Omega boutique to pick up my speedy from service. While there, the GM brought this out for me:

I read about the blacked out speedmaster (IMO, I would've called this the black side of the moon) and how much it sucked. In person, the watch is not as bad as the internet makes it out to be. There are, what appears to be, raised indices (that help with telling time, however, it is still unnecessarily difficult to tell time). The lume was INCREDIBLY weak. For 12k, this is absolutely ridiculous. The GM flat out told me it was not a very good watch, and it's probably not worth even purchasing it. I'm disappointed that OMEGA let this through.

Why not just get a used 3551.20? The '57 proportions are a little funky.

God damn brahs reading this thread has gotten me fired up for a nice watch. Something not too bling but just beautiful like that globemaster posted above… Not gonna fork out 10k though lmao. Gonna read through the thread and find a design I like, then see what the entry level omegas/seikos/whatever are for that design.

I like em, but the fluted on the date II is a little flashy. Notice how they came out with the date date in 40mm this year…although its not a huge size difference, it really made the proportions look better imo, and I would expect them to move the datejust II to 40mm in the future. That used to be my favorite watch, but over time that continues to change. At the end of the day all that matters is what YOU like

Quite possibly my favorite new poster ever. First time I've ever seen a guy say "I'm gonna go back and read through" before asking a bunch of questions we can't answer without more info.

Ok so basically I don't really like the budget friendly seikos, and most of the stuff that I go hnnng for is over $2k. But I'm really digging this one and it's really cheap (under 150!).

I don't dress up too often and this watch is both beautiful and sober enough to work with a polo shirt IMO, what do you think?

I don't dress up too often and this watch is both beautiful and sober enough to work with a polo shirt IMO, what do you think?
I have a similar-ish model (Eminence) and I love it. I really like the design of the open Heart, and ultimately I chose the eminence over the model you selected as it has both open heart and date.

I like their skeleton/open heart models……

but I'm not a fan of the shiny black strap.
Indeed I would replace the strap with something like what's on this Fossil:

Cool I like this particular Esteem because I'm a sucker for the black and rose. The open heart feature speaks to me, I'm an engineer and I love it when something is both beautiful and functional.
Old numbers, not as strong now :(
standing overhead press: 154 lbs
30deg incline bench press: 225 lbs
barbell reverse lunge: 269 lbs
weighted pullup: 261 lbs (total)

Do that because the straps on Orients absolutely suck. Orint Esteem was my first watch ever so I can't knock it.
