Cheers bro. Personally I don't mind them, but it kindof looks like those long thin clouds to the right of the poles are power lines incredibadly shopped, if you don't know what you're looking at. Without the poles there's no ambiguity. Shop it is.

I'm buying a new lens next month finally, stuck between the 24-70 f/2.8L II and 70-200 f/2.8L IS II. Leaning towards the 24-70 because it'll be super useful for weddings and I already have the f/4L IS version of the 70-200 which works ok enough indoors (but I'll still replace it w/the 2.8 eventually).
Go with the 24-70 2.8II lens!!! I have it and I absolutely love it!!! When I reach the number of posts that will allow me to post photos, I will post some results!!

How do you brahs get light up signs sharp in photos at night? I went to nashville this week with my gf and took some photos of the skyline and the ATT building in the evening/night/early morning. The building is sharp but the white ATT logo sign looks like nothing but a white circle.

I occasionally take multiple exposures and then blend them in afterwards. Alternatively I just leave it because it doesn't seem to detract from the overall photo

You have two options.

1. Shoot at the perfect time when the fading light in the sky and the artificial lighting in the buildings, signs, etc. are close enough to be captured with a single exposure. Unless you're going for a true night shot I think this is the best option.

2. Shoot several exposures for detail in both the highlights and shadows and blend them in post either manually with masks in Photoshop or using software that does it for you.

I guess a third option would be shoot RAW with a camera that has a Sony sensor, expose for highlight detail in the signs and then push the shadows several stops in software. If you're a JPEG shooter then some kind of automatic HDR mode would help you there.

Thank you for your advice. I currently shoot with a Canon 6D, Canon 24-70 2.8II, and of course I use a tripod too. I bracketed the images too. Maybe I just need to mess with it a bit more.

You've got all the gear you need so it just comes down to either being there at the perfect time or bracketing — or both if you want to play it safe.

The easiest way with digital is to take a few test shots. Zoom in and if you've got highlight detail in the signs then just bracket longer exposures from that point to get the shadow detail you need. A more accurate way is to use spot metering (keeping in mind the reading it gives you will be for middle gray so just open up a couple of stops from there for highlights) but both approaches will get you there.

4runner is a truck.
I think your wife would want a Highlander..
the setup of the truck and set up as pictured will set you back around 38-45k, depending on your bartering skills.
i'm lucky enough to have friends in the right places, so to me it was quite affordable.

1st and 2nd gen 4runners were on truck chassis, 3rd however is not. Atleast that's my understanding for their justification of calling it a truck, it can haul and go off road enough that they feel it hits all the points that a truck does. They could call it a spaceship for all I care, doesn't effect me any, but IMO it's more like a jeep then, than a truck.

I'm so excited! I just ordered the Nikon D750 from B&H last night.

some of you may remember last year I ordered it but had to cancel. Had some things come up. She's on the way! They said I'll have it this Wednesday. This is my very first camera. I know I have A LOT to learn. Hoping you guys can help me along the way. A good friend shoots with the Nikon D610. He said he would help me too. He's won tons of state awards with his camera. So between him and you guys I should be okay!

I didn't get a lens with the camera. I'm trying to figure out which one to go with. Should I go with a 85mm for walking around lens?
Basically what I want to shoot is landscapes, cars, animals (I know a 85mm won't be good with long distance animals), Macro shots, night life in the city, portraits, and family events. I know I need several lens's to do all of this, but is there a medium lens that I can get by with for now? Maybe later this year I can pick up another lens.

Which editing program should I go with?

I don't have a top of the line laptop. I just have a basic dell laptop. I imagine it will be hard to edit photos but I will work with it for now. I've read it's best to shoot RAW. Do you guys feel that's the best?

Any other tips/advice?

85mm prime would be a rough walking around lens IMO. My 50mm even is a bit trickier than I'd like. 35mm will be my next purchase/attempt. 90% of my shots anymore are with my 10-24mm.

Lightroom is great.

I usually shoot RAW, due to memory not being an issue.

All of the 4runners are body on frame configuration; they're considered trucks by all standards, except load access which is why it is classified as an SUV by registration services.

Jeep is a brand, just like a hyndai, ford, chevy, toyota..

Borrow lenses from your friend to find out what works best for you. The 85mm is my personal favorite for people pictures, but it's a bit too tight for a walking around lens. Try the 45mm f/1.8 VC lens from Tamron for a walkaround lens? SLIGHTLY wider than a 50 but a bit tighter than the 35! and it's f/1.8. And it's VC.

Thanks to both of you for the response. I talked to him earlier and he's going to let me borrow 2 of his lens's to play around with. So that's a huge help!

85mm is way too tight for landscapes. I find myself using my 10-18mm (on a crop sensor) the most these days, though it is a bit wide sometimes. My 70-300 is good for street/portraits at the wide end, as long as the subject isn't too close. Lets you get close to the subject without getting in their face, and good for wildlife at the long end.

I've flirted with the idea of the Tamron 16-300 as a walkaround lens for a while. The IQ isn't going to be as good as a prime, or a smaller range zoom, but it might be okay. Or it might not… It's gone down in price a good bit since it came out so I might get one for the summer. Or I might not… Any photobrahs have any experience of using this, or similar?

Capital of Iowa, only 5 domed capital in the states. They have an incredible law library, unfortunately they close it on the weekends and I was unable to get any pictures.

Never been much for architectural photos, It was alot of fun attempting to take some, not my strong suit so let me know if you see anything to work on.

Awesome photos! ^ which lens did you use for those?

I don't see any of IronMaskDuval's photos?

I've been looking into buying a wide zoom like the Nikkor 10-24 DX. What do you guys think of that lens? I found someone selling it on kijiji for 600 CAD$ (450 US$). good deal? good lens?
I've read some reviews and I see a lot of people saying to go for sigma or tamron instead but then the other half of people saying the nikkor is really sharp and a great wide zoom.
Thoughts?
