Congrats on the week of sobriety! I know it is very challenging not to beat yourself up over lapses and relapses, but it happens to many people, many times. I think that recognizing that fact as well as the fact that you don't fail your sobriety until you give up trying. We might be knocked down 100 times, but we get back up stronger and better than before. This mindset helps me personally because it takes a lot of pressure off of me in terms of thinking I lose everything from a slip up. And, it also has helped me get back on the wagon faster and easier because I didn't spend that time and energy beating myself up.

You should definitely start getting back into the gym! I think that it is incredibly important to replace that time with drinking/using with hobbies and activities that are fulfilling and healthy! I believe the gym is especially helpful because consistent, regular exercise greatly improves physical and mental health. Keep us updated in this thread and please reach out if you need support!

Congrats on the year and a half-ish of sobriety! I don't doubt that you look and probably also feel 10 years younger. What has helped you stay strong in your recovery? Do you have any suggestions that might help others?

Thank you, and thanks to the above commentor.

Not a drop of alcohol thats how it needs to be in my case. I see close friends fall off the wagon after one glass of wine and it snowballs into oblivion. Find positive activities. Theres more to life than drugs and alcohol.

I will also say to pay attention to your daily intake (water & sodium) especially in hot climates and avoid NSAIDS these things are horrible for your kidneys.

I know naturally when you stop boozing, you'll lose some weight. Curious what kinda diet did you guys go on after sobriety to lose more weight. Count calories, keto etc?

Honestly, I have been maintaining my weight pretty consistently throughout my sobriety. I think I initially lost some weight at the beginning, but then when I started lifting again, I started going back to the weight I was. But, I haven't really made any serious attempts to diet. I have recently been working on eating a bit less as well as not eating in the middle of the night. I know that people in recovery sometimes turn to craving food and sugar instead of drugs and alcohol.

This. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks without a drink. Honestly surprised I’ve made it this far. I also changed my diet to cut out most the things I was eating, and that’s been harder than quitting drinking oddly enough. We all gonna make it.

Great advice, definitely helpful to take it one day at a time. It can feel overwhelming to think about not drinking or using for the rest of your life. And yeah, I hope people are able to post in here when they need support!

Got blood test results from yearly physically. Didn't mention anything about liver which was surprising to hear. Guess taking time off actually helps with it. My cholesterol is high so gotta work on that. Had drank over the last week. But wasn't doing the back to back days and the numbers were no where near as I high as they used to be, still no excuse. Didn't drink last night so back onto the sober train. Been pretty good over last two months, lost 20 pounds back into the 270's. Looking to get into the 190s where I was before I started crushing beers so hard lol

14 months sober from alcohol, never have felt better in my life.

The strangest thing is the complete lack of urge to drink, even from the day that I stopped.

Thank you. I have learned a lot about my emotions which I always bottled up and started to let them out in a negative way while drinking. But now I get them out by journaling, talking to someone etc.. I also go to meetings and talk with other sober people. I also wrote a goodbye letter to alcohol which really made me realize just how big of a part it was in my life the last 8 years or so.

This. I kind of fell off for a day, cuz it was my birthday so I said screw it, one day won’t hurt. But when I woke up the next day, the hangover made me decide I never want to do it again lol. I built up such a tolerance to hangovers over the years, but it’s nonexistent now.

Sober Crew Bump. SUV broke down the other day and I had a 2 hr wait for a ride and a 5 iron shot away was a pub. Sucked it up and didn ruin my 230 day streak, but man that was tempting.
