I'm just watching a documentary on this war and in russian Putin is saying "specialnyj wojennyj operacji". Wojennyj means war. So the literal translation would be special war operation.
Not really.

специальная военная операция - SMO

война -WAR

Voyennaya - military

Voyna - war

Russian patriots are anoyed that Putin does not say war.

They want war and nuclear strikes on Lvov.

Also they want Strait of Stalin between Canada and Mexico.

The US never called any intervention a "tactial military operation". Meanwhile your overlord will literally put you in jail if you call it a war...

that's american propaganda

nobody got jailed for calling it a war

they got jailed for protesting it

and it was smart too because 90% of the people who would overthrow him were the type to go protest

Yes I speak Russian.

The root of the world is same.

And every war is in essence is military effort. So military and war in Russian languae are similar words. But not the same.

Can you explain when u use "too dah" vs "tam"?

I am learning Russian, and it is weird there are two words for "there".

As I understand it, too dah has to do with a direction while tam is specifically locational.

You know i did a little research into stalin and i have concluded you are correct that he was a true believer. The portrayal of him as a gangster using communism as a front is all lies

A lot of chit is lies. And for all his garbage understanding of econ (which was universal at the time...the field was in its infancy), he skyrocketed the USSR's economy to #2 GDP. Sure, a lot of people starved, and he may have even engineered that to crush rebellion. He was a tyrant and an exceptionally ruthless man. But he is a symbol of Russian courage and resilience. I don't look to him for moral virtue any more than I'd look to Einstein as a symbol of strength. What was amazing about Stalin was his unbreakable will and his insane political acumen. Was he a tyrant and an asshoel? Of course. But he was the most effective politician who ever lived, and anyone objective would agree.

And also, he was the guy who led them to beat the nazis. Nobody can take that from him. He was the guy Russia needed. That's why he is remembered fondly in spite of his cruelty. Like the tough dad that beat the chit out of you but made you strong. Also, he was a committed Machiavellian, and not a pure psychopath as people portray. He truly believed in what he was doing and tried to make a better and more just world.

To put it bluntly, he was a communist who used being a gangster as a front.

I wasn't saying he was lol. I was saying that just as Einstein is a paragon of intelligence while not being particularly strong in other areas, Stalin was a paragon of political will. I don't believe any person embodies excellence in its totality. But people can be excellent at specific things. Michael Jordan was an exceptional basketball player. Einstein was an exceptional physicist. Even hitler was an exceptional orator. And Stalin was an exceptional politician.

One thing that is cool about Stalin is he was deeply committed to educating his people in spite of having no real education himself. He knew enough to know education mattered. And it paid off. They went from being an agrarian society to having nuclear weapons. The Soviets innovated math and science for many years to come. Were it not for him, many people would never have had better lives and would have been consigned to farming and living as peasants only to eventually be eradicated by the Germans.

It is the furthest statement from the truth. Ukraine is forced by poor leadership to keep running into a wall of death which is also true. It makes those leading the war of poor character all around.

The simple fact is that we wage war and have done so consistently over the course of decades, and without a semblance of self-reflection, you assign a "bad guy."

War is bad, and peace is best, especially in the case where so much is on the line, such as WW3, nuclear weapons, trade realignments, and so on and the land will not only be taken but more land that would have been negotiated for.

So we each have our perspectives. Some are much more informed than others, and some are more compassionate for human life.

I'll also say that I am not the one disappointed with the ongoing war effort in regards to one side or the other defeating the other, I told you and others exactly what to expect from the very begining.
You take a post that has NOTHING to do with the war itself and simply talks about how scummy people are, and then extrapolate as if you are some type of victim this has always been right. Thats about as low as it gets boyo.

The US must persuade Ukraine to sell new regions to Russia in order to end the war. This was stated by Mario Loyola, former adviser on defense policy at the Pentagon and the US Senate.

“The US should encourage Ukraine to sell the territory they now occupy to the Russians in exchange for a large sum, which includes reparations. Many wars have been honorably settled in this way. A more homogeneous Ukrainian state would be more politically stable and could one day join the European Union and possibly even NATO,” he wrote in an article published in The Atlantic.

Gotta say if they can find a way to sell putin the parts of ukraine he already owns thats as close to a win as we're going to get

Do you know that Stalin went to school for Orthodox priiest in Georgia? His mother wanted him to become the Patriarch of Russian Orthodox Church.

Those Orhodox schools were best schools in Russian Empire. Many Russian scrientists from 19th century went to Orhodox schools. Of course, scientists continued to university, Stalin went on to rob a bank in Tbilisi instead of going to university. Later he said he robbed a bank in order to fund bolshevik party.

Stalin never become a Patriarch, but during the WWII when nazis were near Moscow, he allowed new Patriarch to be elected, and stoped commie persecution of Russian Orhodox Church. It had instant postive effect on morale and Red ARmy started advancing.

Later Khruschev again starte persecution of the church.

If this were an option, the US could have bought peace and much of Ukraine back from Putin a long time ago. I'll refer everyone to Putin's original speech when he declared the invasion where he said something along the lines of "Americans think they can buy everything." The point is that no amount of money will make Russia feel safe with an armed and extremely hostile state that openly praises nazis and is in bed with the US on its border.

I did not.

What we learn about Stalin here is essentially that he was a thug and a gangster that clawed his way to power because he was an egomaniac, and then began killing everyone around him because he was also a psychopath that didn't care about anyone or anything.

I still disagree very strongly with Stalin's methods. I am a vehement individualist and to me any exercise of state power is wrong. But that doesn't mean it's okay to lie about the guy.

Some people don't think public education be the way it is, but it do.
