Cliffs: major overkill unless you're a pro or serious amateur who can take advantage of 14fps.

Something I did find amusing looking at the specs of the D5 and 1DX II is the Nikon battery is good for more than 3x as many shots (3,780 vs 1,210). Not sure what is going on there.

It'd be like BMW putting the M4 up against the Merc AMG C63 with a 5 gallon tank.

battery seems suspicious. There must be some background software processes going on in the Canon to drain like that. I think a software update could sort it out.

1200 is border line mirrorless territory.

I took this one with my mom's point and shoot. Just saved it from FB so I'll check if the original looks better (I think FB compresses the **** out of every image). I'll upload the ones I took with my gear later today.

Agreed. I used Nikon's Capture NX2 with Nik plugins for a few years but as soon as Google acquired Nik I dropped it cold and moved on to Capture One Pro full time.

I was pretty certain they'd do this and I didn't want to find myself relying heavily on something that would no longer work with a new camera. As expected Nikon stopped supporting NX2 which was Nik software. They then hastily released NX-D which is just rebranded Silkypix and of course no support for the old Nik plugins.

Fast forward to 2016 and Google is now giving away something that once cost hundreds? By all means use it until it dies but have a backup plan.

From Photographylife.com:

Why is there such a drastic difference in battery life? I suspect it has to do with the dual processors on the 1D X Mark II vs a single processor on the D5. I am not sure if CIPA requires the GPS chip to be enabled during testing, but I doubt that it would drain the battery that much. I suspect the difference comes from the power-hungry dual CPUs. So if one were to shoot side by side with the two cameras, the D5 would keep on clicking…3x over the 1D X Mark II. And here is the worst part, if you shoot using Live View on the 1D X Mark II, you will only get up to 260 shots, which is puny!

I just finished up with them yesterday and everything seems to have gone smooth. They said they will be sending out the check on Monday. I have to say, I am really impressed with how the claim is being handled. With that being said, I want to make a suggestion. To those who don't have a policy, get one. For those that do have a policy and you have either traded glass or acquired new glass, do yourself a service and update your policy. I had two pieces of glass that were not covered because I did not update my policy properly.

So now I get to start from scratch and not sure where to go for a body. I was going to stay with Canon and get another 6D. The 5Ds is out of my range and more than I need and the only other full frame I would entertain from canon is the IDX mkIII. If I was to get a crop I would look at the 80D, 7Dmkii, or T6s.

If I was to go with Nikon, I think this would be the one for me.

Suggestions anyone?

Basically what i didn't know, is that the hole is deep and you won't see them unless you shake the tree and the owl peeks out.

I've written down a bunch of places I want to go shoot in NYC….seems like 3.5 days is WAYYY too short but I guess that's how it is when you're stuck in the 9-5 rot as the misc calls it lol

Will post pics here sometime next week from my trip! Can't wait to try out the new lens and the guy I bought the lens from sold me his D7100 together!! It's a shame I only got it 1 day before my trip so haven't had that much time to play with it but I'm hoping to get some good shots!
I need to visit my sister in NYC, she's been there like 5 years now, starting to get mad I haven't gone, just not into that city lifestyle man. How'd the trip go? I was thinking about the 35mm for landscape shots, but I also shoot cropped currently, should probably stay with the 10-24 then. Just didn't give me crisp landscape shots, but most likely user error I suppose. It was a god-send in Utah/Arizona with all the canyons, tricky to shoot when you have to physically move your head to even see everything.

I appreciate that man, some local flair can make/break a trip.

Day 1: Start in Glasgow (No detailed plans for the city yet apart from university cloisters), Lochwood Tower, Hadrian's Wall, Ferniehirst Castle, Melrose Abbey, Rosslyn Chapel, Edinburg Castle, Royal Botantical Gardens. No plans yet for Edinburg city stuff, gonna look into Arthur's Seat? Some dormant Volcano.

Day 2: St Andrews Cathedral, Scottish Deer Center, Dunnottar Castle, Loch Ness/Urquhart Castle, driving via Cairngorms National Park (No specific park plans, seems pretty commercialized, just gonna enjoy the drive)

Day 3: Beinn Eighe - Climb two Murnos (Ruadh-Stac Mor and Spidean Coire nan Clach), End up near Eilean Donan Castle.

Day 4: Tour Isle of Skye, hit up Old Man of Storr, Fairy Pools, Glen Birttle, then the Eilean Donan Castle.

Day 5: Stirling Castle, National Wallance Monument, and that's all we have planned so far, need to nail down flights to adjust schedule to fit, also thinking about adding in a 6th day. Also heard about North Coast 500, which is something like a 500 mile drive around the north coast, supposed to be legit.

Had about 10 other things on the list, but mostly other Isles, that are a pain to get to, or ate up to much time.

Righto.

Went out with a mate to shoot his new car on the weekend. Got this photo while he was off down the street lining up.

Was my 2nd time ever doing night shots. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

I am really trying to improve my mountain photography to compliment my mountaineering.
Photo composition seems off some how, There's something in the distance, middle and foreground, so it seems like it would be balanced, also a red house for subject, but it comes across as a random mountain picture, like a trip photo, rather than a photo that speaks for itself, doesn't come across as planned. Also something like a water streak on your lens bottom left by the rocks. Post processing could use some tweaks IMO, hate to say more HDR like, but the mountains and clouds seem very dark compared to the bright snow and sun, does the histogram show that ideal bell curve? Looks like it would be more of a valley or upside down bell. Place looks awesome tho, mad jelly man.

Maybe next time have red structure closer, as the foreground element. I feel like I'm supposed to look at the red tent but I want to look at the horizon, but it isn't as impressive as I thought and maybe thats due to the large mountain in the middle of the shot, blocking the distance by to much. Hope that helps, everyone has different tastes.

Really appreciate the replies. I didn't want smoke blown up my ass I did ask for criticism haha thanks

I am a noob but want to do the places I visit justice with proper photos. Post processing I really just do not have enough of an idea. I think I need to start from the beginning with photography all round and build from there.
