Just got back from NYC! Loved it there but really need to go back! So much to see!
I've traveled to Europe and some of South America…but damn New York is huge! The buildings dwarf the ones here in Toronto!

Anyways, Haven't gotten around to even look at all of my pics but so far I love the new 10-24 I got and the D7100 is a beast!
I edited these, still a noob so let me know if i over did something etc.

A little bit of crazy distortion in this one but I actually like the way it came out! Looks cartoony.

I'm pretty sure I over did the crap out of the saturation on this one…but the trees look nice!

I really tried to exaggerate and see what I can do with the wide angles! Loving the lens! Will upload some more soon!

So for the tamron 15-30, I went with the Haida filter system and a 10stop ND filter

Price wasn't too bad. Just under $400 Canadian dollars.

Nice shot Obmas! What sort of set up are you using? I've been trying out some wildlife stuff but the results have been pretty bad so far

Looks good man, I am new to any type of architectural photography, did the Iowa capital a few weekends ago and had a good time with it. Maybe work on your composition slightly? First photo is good, maybe crop more on the sides, don't need as much space outside the pillars? And if you could include the whole domed ceiling that would be nice. The design line on the concrete near the bottom of the picture could use straightened.

The 2nd one, other than disliking people being in the shot, including the top of the arch would have been nice, rather than it getting cut off

I have no idea how to shoot skyscrapers so the next two seem fine to me, maybe the Rockefeller plaza get more on the right of the frame, less of the left?

Also looks like the saturation/detail adjustments in lightroom are up a bit high. Happens to me on like all of my shots, I tend to notice it a few months later after my initial bias wears off.

You ever make it to the Plains down in 'merica we got these burrowing owls you'd like, about the size of a football maybe, long skinny legs, they live in holes in the ground. Goofy for sure. I've got a few blurry photos of them, but haven't landed any good ones yet. They will sit on a fence post 5 feet away while you fly by in a truck but as soon as you pull over they are gone.

my setup is fairly modest. 7dmkii and tamron 150-600mm. sometimes i use a monopod, sometimes i use flash with an extender.

wildlife photography is definitely not for everyone. i think you have to enjoy nature first to really get into it as it requires a lot of time out in the field, whether that's driving time or hiking distance.

there are many times where i would be out for hours and not really see anything. it is mostly about luck (right place, right time). but you do need some general knowledge on where to find certain species.

Thinking about pulling the trigger on the 7d Mark ii. Anyone got some personal pro's and con's between this and possibly going full frame?

Assuming your glass is not EF-S, then the deciding factor is frame rate and AF.

If you need more than 6fps with a pro AF system then it's either a crop sensor or pony up the big bucks for a pro FF body.

If you don't need more than 6fps or a pro AF system then you might as well jump into full frame and enjoy the ISO advantage of a larger sensor and the wider FOV with EF lenses.

The upside to Nikon being 5 years ahead of Canon with fast full frame cameras is that you can pick up a used D4 for under $3000 and a D3s for less than $2K. Canon only just released a successor to the 1DX so it's probably hard to find one for less than $4000.

I do a lot of wildlife and thats really why i'm leaning towards the 7D. Just be nice to have a full frame for everything else.

I have to much invested in lens to switch systems now.

thoughts? shot with a Nikon D90 and some chit tamron 18-200mm lens

still learning this ****, some awesome photos in this thread brah's keep up the great work. I wanna start taking some more portrait and landscape work this summer and try to make some money off of it to pay for my tuition. eventually I want to do weddings and portraits for people for some cash on the side or something seems like it would be fun, but still got a long ways to go…i'm open to any and all criticism on these photos!! it will really help me become a better photographer if I can hear your guys advice, a lot of very talented people in here. any advice you guys can give me on how to start making some money off of this? I think doing portraits would be the best way but not really sure how to go about it, or if i'm even good enough lol…maybe i'll post an add on craigslist or something…would probably need some better gear & skills though

go in dry brah's, my body is ready

So on the 1st (of April) I decided to finally start my 365 photo project and so far all's been good, I've been having fun except for today. I had this idea in my head and it just wouldn't come out how I wanted it to. Anyways I will try to take the same style of picture next week because I'm pissed that I didn't get what I wanted.

This is the picture that has me mad:

First shots with my new 24-70 f/2.8L II. It's unbelievable how sharp and free of fringing/aberrations it is wide open.

definitely get the 7d mkii if you do wildlife. just make sure to do a microadjustment on your supertele. the extra "reach" that you get is pretty awesome. my 600mm is about equivalent to 960mm angle of view.

i did wildlife with my 6D fullframe for several months before i decided i wanted to get more FPS in continuous shooting

You understand the concept but a few people reading his thread might not.

The only "reach" you get with a crop sensor is from pixel density.

A 20mp 7D2 has an advantage there over a cropped image from a 20mp 6D but not a 50mp 5Ds which is probably dead even.

Of course where the 7D2 pulls away for wildlife is being able to capture twice as many frames in the same burst.

Ultimately it's horses for courses. There's no single camera that does it all. Unless a 1DX fits into your budget the 7D2 is the best tool for shooting anything that moves.

Overall pretty solid man, better than my first shots. This is just my thoughts if I had to pick out issues.

First one, Neat shot, pretty good composition, some framing with some of the plants in the foreground, everything looks fine with the orange, but the water seems off. Not sure, is it some filter you used? Or adjustment? Some other color may be nice, but one of the better shots

2nd one is good, I like where the focus is at and placement of the focus in the shot, maybe back out a touch, include a bit more of the leaves off the main plant, or maybe cropped closer like this is better. seems a bit over exposed near the back of the photo

3rd one isnt bad, maybe have the edge of the photo be the branch, so there is a better balance between the plants in the foreground and the water in the distance. I did a similar idea with a flower and canyon, what I did there was three shots, one with the plant in focus and blurry background, but enough to tell what the background was, one where the background was sharp and the plant in the foreground was blurry, then a 3rd where both seemed to be in focus to some degree. Not sure which was better but it was nice having the options later in post processing. It's digital so when in doubt snap a handful of versions.

4th one is my least favorite, I understand the framing, but there isnt anything for it to frame, the foreground is to underexposed and the background is to exposed. Needs more of a balance, post processing, shooting RAW or an HDR type shot would help.

5th one, is a good one, maybe the inside of the tree, the main focus point could be exposed a bit more, tad dark in there, next time try placing a rock or an item in there, just to see if it turns out better. Ideally you'd have a little crab or bird there, but nature never cooperates that well.

Last one is to abstract for me to get, Took a while to figure out what the picture was even, I don't do alot of street shots, so IDK.

Thanks a lot! That's a good set up though. The 7dii looks perfect for the wildlife stuff sort of a like a cheaper 1dx

I'm out every day hiking about for landscape shots, I've just been practicing to add an extra thing to keep an eye out for to maximise the use of my time. I'm a full blown nature boy and know where the nests are for things like Ospreys and Peregrine Falcons are near me so hopefully it pays off soon

Thanks for the advice!

A great resource is ebird.org

If you go to explore data, species map, type in what you are looking for, then location you can see where that species has been spotted before and how recent.

We have peregrines come back already here on the university campus. They are doing mating rituals now, hoping to go check it out tomorrow.

Ha, being a hobbist, the 1dx and 5ds is so out of my range its not even in my vocabulary.

Can never get close enough to these birds, so there is always cropping. not having to throw away pixels by cropping a FF image is a plus. My final images are so much more detailed now compared to when I was shooting with 6D.

i just joined yesterday but i know the guy who posted the picture. i was the one that helped him find it. sun was going down and we were about to give up, but i spotted it just as we were about to leave. a lot of other photographers have been going to that location for the 5 little owl babies

it varies, actually. but mostly an hour before sunset. i saw another Barred Owl yesterday and it was around 7pm. tall spruce trees, so no light got through.

these little owls are normally nocturnal, but since they are fledgling, they are out more in the day
