I will say this, the recession did not help their cause at that time (early 90s). Basically backtracked on almost every policy his party planned on. Was supposed to implement public auto insurance but didn't. Implemented wage freezes for all public servants. Worse thing had to be Rae Days. Making workers take days off without pay (mostly public service). Turned his back on unions (which I guess can be considered good or bad but lost all union support with that). Instituted being fiscally conservative but had no real idea how to be conservative with government money. Came out worse than we came in. NDP dropped to 6% support after that and took years to recover (and have never been close to being elected in Ontario since).

yea but i could really care less about that. but if they do sure why not. I dont understand how trudeau got the leadership of liberals. Canada seems to have no real strong leaders at all. for all im concerned all the parties and leaders are all garbage and cant be trusted. its just a matter of who i hate least.

sad but true. they all say different crap that we know that will never be able to deliver on and some we hope they won't. but in the end you have to look through the BS and try to figure out who would do the least damage lol.

Ever since I picked up English I've dated and hung around a lot of English brah and brahette and when you get to see the other side of the fence you realize the Bill101 is pretty fuked up and discriminatory.

Brb tax payer like me
Brb Contribute to the province just like me
Brb you speak english at birth? Nothxjeff, gotta learn and write in French

But then again doing the opposite would also be fuked to keep French speaking people form using their language especially if its the only one they know. Many of my firends and family keep trying to learn English but can't quite progress from lack of exposure.

Though situation to have two hugely represented language bickering at each other when really, we are all the same mofos except with a different way of speaking at home.

Yep, he said he would. Or at least decriminalize it.

Either way I'm glad to see this go in the right direction vs Harper imposing harsher sentences for marijuana offenses.

Agree that it is indeed excessive, but learning a second language (I guess we push for French in Canada) really isn't a big deal. Go in many parts of Europe and the norm is to be able to speak 3 or 4 languages properly (not trashy urban English).

Also keep in mind that French is the most common second language spoken in the world. (Not the most common second language, but the the most common language that people speak as a second language)

well theres a whole history behind french being the most common second language but wont get into it. It can be very useful to know, (parisian french in particular)

Many international treaties are written in French because in english there can be many meanings for certain words. (thats what I heard from a lawyer that practices international law, not sure if legit.)

The french from Quebec is the same as the one from Paris in its written form. Only the accents and ofc the slangs differ but we don't speak French the same way we write it. If you write your French paper in a Quebec slang for example you'll get reprimanded by the teacher and he will take away points.

As for learning a second language, of course its always gonna be useful but French can be a pain in the ass to learn and its coming from someone who speak it as a 1st language. I can't quite blame other Canadians for never really learning it. Plus outside of Quebec, its not like you guys would be using it often. Hell even in Montreal I can get away with never using it.

A romance language is always great to learn. Learn one and you basically know 5. I can understand a good bit of French even though the furthest I learned in school was how to say bonbon or whatever lol.

But you gotta learn the differences that aren't common to each language, like mi chaimo or je mapelle or however it's said in French which is kinda annoying but oh well.

But none of the romance languages are common in Canada other than French in Quebec so.. Probably better to learn Chinese or Punjabi or something but those are basically impossible without living in those countries for a while.
