Ever since I picked up English I've dated and hung around a lot of English brah and brahette and when you get to see the other side of the fence you realize the Bill101 is pretty fuked up and discriminatory.

Brb tax payer like me
Brb Contribute to the province just like me
Brb you speak english at birth? Nothxjeff, gotta learn and write in French
But then again doing the opposite would also be fuked to keep French speaking people form using their language especially if its the only one they know. Many of my firends and family keep trying to learn English but can't quite progress from lack of exposure.
Though situation to have two hugely represented language bickering at each other when really, we are all the same mofos except with a different way of speaking at home.

well theres a whole history behind french being the most common second language but wont get into it. It can be very useful to know, (parisian french in particular)
Many international treaties are written in French because in english there can be many meanings for certain words. (thats what I heard from a lawyer that practices international law, not sure if legit.)

As for learning a second language, of course its always gonna be useful but French can be a pain in the ass to learn and its coming from someone who speak it as a 1st language. I can't quite blame other Canadians for never really learning it. Plus outside of Quebec, its not like you guys would be using it often. Hell even in Montreal I can get away with never using it.

Haven't slept in 3 days. Just lie in bed with my eyes closed but not asleep, eyes swollen like crazy now. Fuk me.
But you gotta learn the differences that aren't common to each language, like mi chaimo or je mapelle or however it's said in French which is kinda annoying but oh well.
But none of the romance languages are common in Canada other than French in Quebec so.. Probably better to learn Chinese or Punjabi or something but those are basically impossible without living in those countries for a while.
