I didn't end up buying much of anything this year, but I had a pretty good weekend with respect to guns/shooting. Sponge painted another stock:

Normally I would have gotten out Friday and Saturday to hunt coyotes, but I sprained my ankle pretty good Friday morning playing basketball. With my bum ankle and made range trips instead. My local range is pretty nice (not as cool as Rthoe's above). It has a bunch of different ranges - one for siting in, a rimfire silhouette range, a couple outdoor handgun ranges, various clays setups, etc. It has a really nice long-range setup with berms at various ranges and steel targets that are left out. I had a good time Friday shooting my 223 at steel. I shot around 60 rounds from various field positions (prone, sitting, sitting supported) at targets from 200 to 1,100 yards. Lately I'd been spending most of my time on the benches so it was good to just shoot some steel. I went back Saturday and did some load workup, shot my S&W M&P, and rimfire. All in all a good weekend.

Stock looks great.

What .223 ammo do you use for shooting those distances?

Thanks! The .223 ammo is a reload recipe that is kind of my version of bulk ammo. I use range pickup brass (free ) and Hornady bthp bullets. Velocity is about 2,675 fps in a 20-in barrel. I have my turret press set up to throw powders, rather than weighing, so I can load them more quickly at the possible expense of some accuracy. It was a really calm evening when I was at the range. I actually forgot my rangefinder. I was doing fine on the 200- and 330-yard berms but whiffing on the 540-yard one because I couldn't remember the distance. Another guy showed up and asked how I was doing, and I told him I forgot my rangefinder and he bailed me out with the range. After I got my dope straightened out, I was hitting the 10-inch plates every time and the 6-inch plates about 70% at 540. I let a few bullets fly at the 1,100-yard plate just for kicks, but without a buddy on a spotter with decent magnification I don't think I would know whether I hit it or not with a 223. I haven't chronographed my load in that specific rifle and I would do a little better if I put in a bit more work to chronograph and true my drops. I could also probably get a little better accuracy if I tailored the load to the gun. That said, I'm not a competition shooter and the load shoots well enough to have some fun.

Very cool.

I'm interested in getting into reloading, but I've decided unless I can by a complete setup for really cheap, I probably never will get into it.

Damn, I have a PSA single stage drop in 3.5lb trigger that I bought for the same price. I was going to drop it in my PSA rifle, but I decided to build this rifle setup I'm planning and was going to use that for it.

Any thoughts on a semi-auto shotgun?

May seem a little ridiculous but I was drawn to an AR12 Panzer. Or just a Semi Auto. Working for a start up logistics firm that moves military freight atm so $$$$ isn't there yet but will be.

Was going to purchase that as my next gun for my own christmas present.

The vast majority of semi-auto shotguns aren't nearly reliable enough to trust for anything serious. Benelli or it's a range toy.

Reading above about the LaRue made me check their website again only to find out the M BT-2S Straight Bow is finally available!
Ordered one to replace the curved M BT-2S I have on my AR and will transfer the old one to my pistol [Lol why is M B T censored?] [Lol why is M B T censored?]

Question - anyone uses a shoulder holster? I'm thinking it could be nice during the cold season since we are always wearing jackets/layers.
I'm looking into the Aliengear Shapeshift Shoulder Holster but still looking for a cheaper alternative since its a bit expensive and I'm not even sure if I'm going to like it.

New black friday gun orders finally arrived brahs!

Sons of Liberty 16" m4 with c4 quadrail ($1100)
Ruger MPR 18" in camo cerakote ($819)

PS: the SOLGW order was pretty sweet. They threw in 3 mags (aluminum made by solgw), the black gun bag you see pictured, gun lube, a copy of the constitution, photos of the team who made the rifle, and a few of those root beer candies some warheads

Best I can do(does not take stardard AKM furniture)

If you want something that is cheap and works, find a used WASR on your local boards for around $600. Give it a good visual before buying and it'll run for the rest of your life(srs)

FWIW my saiga 12 has been very reliable, but it has the oldschool manual gas system that needs to be adjusted for low or high brass. supposedly the auto adjusting gas system in the VEPR is even better.

i still remember the days when you could buy restored saiga 7.62x39s for less than that.

obama took care of that problem though…

There's no doubt in my mind if a fair trial is carried out that GOA will win their lawsuit against the AFT over their up coming pistol brace bullsh!t.

Great succinct video, about 5 min long. Point #28 is a perfect example of how the AFT has been operating lately.

Brahs, is $249 a good deal for an Aero .308 lower? Also how easy/hard is it to build a rifle ..just buy the lower and upper and connect it?

I'm so torn with what I want to get for christmas. I'm new to rifles and stuff but I either want a shotgun, a long range rifle like a 6.5/308/30-06 or whatever for long range precision or just a regular ar-15. My buddy says shotgun since I don't have one already. I played guitar for a living at one point in my life so I really dig the long range hand eye coordination aspect. I don't mean to preach to a choir but so many options with this stuff.

No offense but I don't think you really have any idea how any of those work or what's involved. Long range precision shooting isn't what I would describe as a hand eye coordination thing.

In terms of practical application and usefulness, given that you haven't listed a particular app, it's going to be handgun > AR15 type > shotgun > precision rifle

Don't buy anything other than 9mm, 5.56/.223, 12 gauge, or .308
