It's not as sexy of a story as some big hedgefund robinhood scandal, but it's accurate. The sexier story with RH, Melvin, Citadel, etc., however is a good lesson to new investors that your friend is not necessarily your friend in these markets.
Nothing yet but its coming.

And thanks.

Think this is the norm for most people...its a biologically ingrained defense mechanism and once someone experiences this significant trauma they stop playing the market completely and that's why barely anyone makes it in this game.

Stop letting emotions control your actions, stick to a game plan and havediscipline.

That is exactly why brokers like RH and TD restricted trading of GME NOK etc.

Under normal circumstances a brokerage can monitor a stocks fall and force a margin call if needed.

But when a stock is moving 100% up or down or more a day?

Caution needs to take place. Hence the restrictions.

I asked in the other thread but I’ll repeat here if one of you kind brahs can answer. I normally play with crypto, however stocks, I’m a complete noob.

Similarly to the US, a lot of UK apps either stopped buying of GME or didn’t allow new registrations. One app of mine has finally cleared account verification so I can start buying. GME stock price is $316 currently, but obviously the market is closed. I’ve got money I’m not going to cry about losing, so would it be possible to buy now and lock in the current price so that when market opens Monday it triggers the buys at that price? Or would it be better to wait until Monday and buy after market opens? (Surely it’ll do what it did today and surge up initially right if I went with the latter though?)

Or am I just too late now? I’m assuming not considering the many people holding still.

I can still remember when I first started to trade how I thought once a stock was going up, it would just keep going up and I would make $1 million.

Greed is the mind killer.

A great way to trade is if a stock is going up, take out your original investment if up enough and ride the rest of the shares for free. That is a great way to get in the mindset that a profit...any profit...is a good thing. Never get greedy.

Yes you may miss out on a few stocks that go up another 300% (hell I left another $600 K on the table with MITI), but in the long run it will save you.

For example. MEDH this week. I had bought 3 M shares around .011 last week. It went up to .018ish this week and I was able to sell 2.5 M and make $20 K or so.

Now I could have let it ride but I didn't feel the time was quite right for the stock. So I sold it all and was able to buy back most of it around 013 yesterday and today and it finished back up at .017 and I am already up another $15 k on the rebuy instead of still having my original shares.

So I made an extra $15 k.

I love that kind of stuff. It is good, and smart trading.

A $1 profit is better than any loss.

Is the no in response to whether the current price (now $313) would be locked in if I made a market order now, or no in that I’m not too late to buy?

Roger that. What would happen if I did a market order now? Would it trigger the price it’s at at the start of when regular market opens?

I fully understand these probably sound like retard questions to you guys.

Earliest I can buy is 7 AM eastern with my brokers, which is 4 AM Pacific. I know there is a 4 AM trading period for a few sketchy brokers, but I would never buy before 7 AM, and being honest 8 AM eastern is a good time to wait until. Otherwise you are literally trading blind.

For example with Etrade and TD you can't trade until 7 AM. Anything before that is basically the grey sheets....IE no market makers and no regulation.

And being honest? I would not be buying GME at any price at the open Monday.

You are buying a stock that just 2 weeks ago was at $15. Why take a risk like that?

The path of easiest resistance is down, not up. This is all hype. Zero fundamentals.

Find a stock that you like that hasn't gone up 2000% yet and build a position.

But don't let me tell you what to do.

Yes. What they are doing is matching trades. Like the grey sheets for penny stocks. There is no market maker, no regulation. Just matching trades like buying a product with a bid on Ebay.

Not recommended.

Cheers guys.

So to check I’ve got this right, don’t do anything until I’ve seen what the price is come 9.30am market open, if the price goes up to say 360 (random figure), put a limit order of say 365 so that I won’t get fleeced?

If that’s the case, could I not just set a limit order now at say 320 and then hope it triggers Monday?

I still don’t understand what pre market is and how it affects regular market.

Yeh that’s fair, it’s why I’ve not loaded any money on to the app yet, I’ve not fully decided if I will, mainly because of my limited knowledge on stocks and these sort of markets.

As I said, I’m all about crypto, 24/7 market, with spreads I understand along with some understanding of TA, so I’ve been doing pretty good with that.

Correct. And don't be afraid to put an order in for lower than the opening bell price, whatever that is.

Stocks don't go straight up.

Don't enter any order now. Wait.

What is Pre-Market?

The pre-market is the period of trading activity that occurs before the regular market session. The pre-market trading session typically occurs between 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. EST each trading day. Many investors and traders watch the pre-market trading activity to judge the strength and direction of the market in anticipation for the regular trading session.
Understanding Pre-Market

Pre-market trading activity generally has limited volume and liquidity; therefore, large bid-ask spreads are common. Many retail brokers offer pre-market trading but may limit the types of orders that can be used during the pre-market period. Several direct-access brokers allow access to pre-market trading to commence as early at 4:00 a.m. EST from Monday through Friday.

It is important to remember there is very little activity for most stocks so early in the morning, unless there is news. The liquidity is also extremely thin, with most stocks only showing stub quotes. Index-based exchange-traded-funds (ETF), such as the SPDR S&P 500 ETF, have moving quotes due to the trading in the S&P 500 futures contracts. Many of the most widely held top holdings in benchmark indices may also get movement in the event of a significant gap up or down in the S&P 500 futures. Stocks such as Apple Inc. tend to get trades as early at 4:00 a.m. EST.1

Crypto is basically unregulated stock trading and open 24/7.

EST.1

Man I’m a tard, checked my crypto app to check how I normally make trades and realised all my orders are limit, although I monitor the spread before I make a buy or sell, unless I’m happy I’ve made decent profit regardless and can sell whatever the ask, or whether the entry point is too juicy to miss (like after a correction). Guess market orders are just to ensure you get in/out quickly, but more likely to get rekt by the bid/ask.

E.g. I check coinbase before hand to see what the actual price of a coin is, then look at the ask price to make sure it’s not too far spread, then make a decision based on that. In the case below, over 2% would be a big no for me, I usually look for <1%.

What crypto exchanges are you using? Working on activating Voyager, but years ago used to only use Poloniex and Coinbase.

And what do you think of Ripple? Sorry I know this isn't the Crypto thread, but sincerely think Ripple is at or near bottom resistance right now and if they make it through the suit they could rocket. (I am not sold that it is a "scam coin" like most people are saying just because of the amount in Escrow)

I use Lykke, it has low fees and reasonable spreads. However I only deal with the main coins, a lot of the other coins aren’t listed on there and if they are, then there’s lower liquidity. As an Ameribrah I’d likely use Binance or Kraken. Fuk Coinbase.

Ameritrade wouldn't let any new options trade to open today on GME. I watched it drop, put in a quick option order on the 350's and got rejected. Would've 3x'd in 30 seconds. Fuaaarrrk these brokers. But I was slow and steady anyway. Made $250 on TSLA calls even though it dropped hard today. Got in a $900 call for next week at close.
