Honestly you have a point, people want the ability to drive way faster than the legal limit and car manufacturers deliver that.


At least a car that drives fast can be beneficial even if it breaks the law. No such benefit is derived from someone having the means to shoot more people per minute. Totally different scenario.

Until you are outnumbered and being able to shoot more people determines whether or not you live or die. I mean, no country's government has ever become tyrannical in the history of the world, so it's not like we'd ever need to defend ourselves from more than your neighborhood thug. Anyone want to know how not-powerful an AR-15 is (you know since you're in defense of high powered rifles). In most (if not all) states, it is illegal to hunt large game like deer and elk with an AR-15 because it is unlikely to quickly kill the animal and will cause it to suffer. But you're good with .30-06 hunting rifles...
