I don't own any guns, I'm not a progressive liberal, but why do people need assault weapons? I'm honestly curious. what does someone need an m16 for over a shotgun or high powered rifle?

dumb argument, so everything should be legal then? drugs?

why don't we allow rocket launchers, tanks, and grenades etc? Because those things are completely unnecessary and so are guns that fire hundreds of rounds at lighting speed

how about an intelligent response to my argument that those guns are totally beyond what's needed for protection and thus should be banned

Drugs should be legal.

Rocket launchers/tanks are not in the constitution.

Haha, you're ignorance is showing. M16s and "assault weapons" as you ignoramuses like to call them have been illegal for civilian possession since 1934. I bet you think the "AR" in AR-15 means "assault rifle" too.

My AR15 regularly tries to escape and go on a shooting spree. I have to give it a stern warning once a week.

I think I would pick an m16 over those other two options 9/10 times for general protection. Shotgun doesn't have the range to be universally effective, high powered rifle (IE hunting rifle) would be too bulky/too much of a hassle.

to add on that...isn't m16 classified as a high powered rifle? along with ak 47, etc etc.

In the end, no one NEEDS an assault weapon. but it doesn't make sense to ban one weapon, unless you're going to ban them all. and that just isn't going to happen in US. and if it does....

Ok, I dont know the definition of an assault rifle. what I do know is that there are guns that are currently legal that are totally overpowered for the basic need to protect yourself. I dont give a fuk what they're called.

And you are complete moron if you think making drugs legal is the right thing to do just because there is a black market.

That is your view.

However studies have shown legalizing drugs has a better effect on society than banning them.

Yes, let's make drugs legal so it's even easier/cheaper and more common for people to access that garbage and ruin their lives. Complete moron

Well that point went right over your head. I'll dumb it down for you.

The "war on drugs" has been such a success, do you really think the "war on guns" is going to be any different? We can't even stop a bunch of Mexicans from crossing our border, do you really think we are going to stop guns? We don't even know where said Mexicans are, what makes you think anyone will find 400,000,000 guns?

Five years later, the number of deaths from street drug overdoses dropped from around 400 to 290 annually, and the number of new HIV cases caused by using dirty needles to inject heroin, ******* and other illegal substances plummeted from nearly 1,400 in 2000 to about 400 in 2006, according to a report released recently by the Cato Institute, a Washington, D.C, libertarian think tank.

how do you know what's needed for protection though?

what if a group of mentally fked up dudes go on a rampage through some small town with several firearms? aint no one pistol gonna stop them. but if the cops can't help, and there's no other options, one rifle spraying rounds just might save the rest of the city.

Non-issue for me though, as in CA everything is semi-auto and 10rd mag limit

AR stands for Armalite (the original manufacturer). There is no difference between an AR-15 and any other semi-automatic handgun or rifle that is out there. I mean...unless we are going to be racist and ban it for being black.

You'd think people would want handguns banned since they're easier to hide, conceal, and carry. But hey, that doesn't fit the libtarded narrative.

I dont really give a sh*t if we can have them or not...Ill never own more then the two handguns I currently own and have for the past 7 years. They are fuking pointless to have though, unless you are a collector of fire arms, which there are plenty of.

most people in america cant afford $25000-$35000 for a real m16 so we can only buy ar15s.but alot of people have ar15s because they're cheap/ergonomic/not much recoil/parts are cheap/easy to learn on/cheap ammo.basically its one of the best options for the price.why buy something inferior when you could have the better option for the same money?

I didnt say we needed a "war" on drugs or guns whatever that means, but they should as a rule be illegal because those things are totally unnecessary for society and bring no good.

You have zero evidence to back your claim.

http://qz.com/91642/the-economic-cas...ize-all-drugs/
According to the World Bank, at least three-fourths of expenditures on drugs in the US goes toward apprehending and punishing dealers and users; treatment expenditures account for, at most, a mere one-sixth of the total. That’s in spite of evidence that treatment programs are more effective and economical than interdiction.

And you are the problem with America. A bunch of idiots who don't know anything about anything think they somehow have the right to tell other people how they should live their lives.

Pretty much a myth. Organized crime became more visible but the amount of violent crime didn't change. There were huge health benefits (things like cuirrhosis deaths dropped by 2/3s, public drunkness arrests dropped 50%) and some crime shifting (i.e. yes organized crime ran alcohol because it became more profitable than pimping). And of course prohibition was a blip in time.

I would also say that getting drunk is a lot more universal than the need for guns. Pretty much every society gets drunk. Only a few lug around guns.

I am fine banning high magazine weapons (say 10 shots. Feel free to quibble about the exact number). You don't need them for hunting or self protection. You will still be able to murder your family, commit suicide, or have your kid accidentally shoot themselves (something like 2/3s of gun deaths fall into one of those categories) just fine. It might lower the death toll from these mass shootings a bit though.

And of course anyone who thinks manhood is defined by material goods of any sort has a vastly different defintion than I do. Of course I did wear a salmon shirt once. So what do I know
