You texted? Wow........smdh.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

yeah. my boss constantly gets calls on his phone interrupting his work and it pisses him off. i tried to call like 10 mins ago and it went straight to voicemail. i'll call him after 5. i think it's a better chance for me if he's cooled down from cussing the other crew out and having them all quit on him. idk what he will say but i'd prefer not to catch him at the wrong moment and get yelled at or something over the phone. don't think he would but i dunno. if i had called him right when i was leaving it'd probably the worst possible response for me.

If it was that cold where I couldn't physically do anything then that's exactly what I'd do. Nothing. If he has a problem with that then fire me. I'd obviously try, but if it's killing me then no thanks.

I had the opposite experience in Australia, working in 113 degree weather with sweat dripping in to my eyes, feeling faint, and short of breath. But there's a culture there where you just power through with it. Man up. Obviously if you're getting heat stress you sit down and take 5 but on the whole people put up with it.

Makes the 9-5 in the office I have no seem like a (cool) breeze.

I'm almost rustled at how clueless you are. People like you are why tradies are regarded as a joke.

Here's a tip: he doesn't get pissed because you call and interrupt him. He's pissed because you are calling to say you are leaving work because you cant work inabovefreezing conditions. I hope he fukn fires you, srs.

I'd say you should get a job flipping burgers but you might complain the grill is too hot

That's not even cold maybe buy some decent cold weather gear? I mean some people probably do your job in conditions like you described 6+ months out of the year

i mean i get paid the same or less i would sitting around doing nothing all day in an office, except it's manual labor and outside. that part doesn't make a lot of sense to me to be honest but i do it because i like it (minus feeling pain in my extremities due to weather)

Midwest Cable Guy here, if this is your first bout with cold weather you'll harden up after awhile.

Like everyone has said here, layer up and wear GOOD gloves, not mechanics gloves or the ones your grandma nitted you for your birthday. Buy heat packs if you need too. I wear long johns, PJ bottoms under my Wrangler Riggs, Redwing boots with alpaca socks and I'm good to go for blustery conditions and tempatures well under 0 degrees.

Just learn to harden up to the conditions, or perhaps you need to look for another gig, some bros aren't cut out for this type of work.

LMFAO @ EVERY SINGLE REPLY ITT

you don't have to justify your decision to anyone here man

they all have this dick measuring mentality where you have to endure pain in order to prove how much of a man you are

no sensible person cares how cold it is where you live or how much work you got done

why do we choose to get out of bed every morning? Why do we decide not to swerve into the tree and end it all in an instant? Because there are good things in life to be experienced. Why do people go to work a job they hate or a job that's physically demanding? Because it allows them to buy **** so they can enjoy life.

you are not a weak minded lazy piece of chit for not wanting to work in those conditions. The point is that you can't walk away from a job and expect to get paid for it. Or expect the job to make the work easier for you. If you accept those terms, which I believe you do, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with what you did.

the only "lazy" people I have a problem with are those who want lots of chit, but want others to pay for it. If you want to jobless, by all means. Just live within your means, and not beyond it.

this thread is just another collective attempt to embrace the profitable, overworked, pointlessly convoluted lifestyle that's killing them under the guise of "work ethic" and "meaning". There is nothing "alpha" about working 70 hours a week doing chit that you hate just so that you can buy more materialist garbage, aka a bigger house, another ATV, motorcycle, etc...

I won't say anything that anyone else hasn't said. But you need to be dressed for the weather and prepared. Keep dry clothes in your car and always dress for a colder temp. Working in the cold isn't fun, but when you're dressed properly its not that bad.

But if you can't do it, you can't knock people that do it for a living.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. But if you sign up/shake hands to do a job you should know what you're getting into. If you can't handle it, you stick out the day and quit afterwards. Some people don't thrive doing ****y jobs, others love it. Nothing against that, but you should know what you're getting into.

Didn't know what I was getting into. The last guy I quit on, I quit because he didn't have morals and was fukking up people's houses - but we never worked in the rain. I kinda assumed it was like that for this other job but he had us out while it was misting, cold, windy and shyt. I can do the job, just not in that weather. On top of that, I didn't know I'd be expected to be working fukkin saturdays and sundays - but that's besides this point.

Another friend of mine, his boss completely stopped working for the winter because the weather is fukking up the tools.

I haven't quit. I'm ready to go out again on a different day.
