And that's why everyone shouldn't be allowed an opinion. Let me guess you can't break down for me the operations of an investment bank? Do you know how corporations operate? Do you think they just expand and manage operations via internal cash generation? How do governments operate? What about municipalities?

People on wall st are no doubt overpaid, but investment banks are the backbone of a developed economy and 99% of non-finance people don't even know what they do.

If you don't know what you learn in an MBA, and think that they exist just to let people network, then cast the acronym out of your mind because you wont need one.

Agree that you can't learn your way into a good job though. You can't even learn your way into an entry level job. The world is harsh and isn't meritocratic.

MBAs are better when there's a variety of experiences, agreed, but ultimately the courses exist to teach you *highly academic* material and so it shouldn't matter who else is in the class to an extent.

Employers have people get MBA's just so they can get a raise.


And the whole point of top schools if you're a pleb is to brown nose trustfund kids and get in with their crowd. Who in community college can get you a position at their daddies company?

My MBA had us working with clients in several continents. We executed several projects requiring us to travel internationally. Most of the candidates were fully sponsored by their employers and were inherently high performers. Yes agreed but ultimately you're being graded by academics on academic work. If you're on a good team or you're consulting for a good company and have good contacts, the teamwork you produce will be better yeah. But you're not creating corporate deliverables. The type of work you produce in an MBA is typically not of a style that will ever really be seen in real organisations.

I actually softened my stance since I replied last time though, because you're right, you do learn a lot being around experienced people. I just think that their experience is ultimately irrelevant in terms of grades and learning the actual material. The biggest timewasters in my class were the ones who thought they knew it all through vast experience, but wouldn't follow the university style guide, or wouldn't reference their work, or wouldn't use referencable work, or would think that they knew more than the young professors, etc. At least the people who came straight from undergrad, or even had undergrad degrees, knew what standard of work is expected in university.

On the other hand, I learned a ton about soft-skills from being on teams with experienced people.

If you were in classes with sponsored students then I presume you're talking about a part time MBA rather than full time?
