That's what I told myself. What's the point of building a good rig if I can't fully enjoy it?

I bought one. Store had 3 more in stock. I may buy one more and flip it or keep it if the one in my current possession is defected.

I'm about to pull the trigger on my pc, should I wait a month or so for AMD's graphics cards to come out (they come out in like a month, right?) or just buy my 1080 now?

This is true because a monitor will last you multiple builds. Same with a power supply. What I do is replace my video card once every 2-3 years, then cpu/motherboard/ram every 5 years. I don't know why people build a new computer every 2 years, especially now that improvements in cpus have stagnated.

HEB is my go to market when I was in Houston. Costco (or Sam's Club) is cheaper though due to being a wholesale club so if you have a family, you should have a Costco card. For single, not really a necessity.

But Costco really have a lot of sales throughout the year, even on electronics. Even car tires.

Their top series, Vega, aren't released until May/June.

The series coming out in a month, the RX 5XX series is a rebranded RX 4XX series.

I have both a gaming PC w/ 7700k and a workstation w/ e5-2680. If you don't need the extra cores for any heavy lifting (Plex, rendering, hosting, etc...), I would get the 7700K. It's much newer and the higher clock speed will be better if you do decide to game.

Xeons are professional processors. They'll contain a lot of ancillaries consumers don't need and will never use.

What a joke nVidia is.
It's so funny that their DX12 driver implementation is utter trash and all the reviewers are testing Ryzen CPUs with nVidia cards....

What happens if you use AMD cards with their DX12 drivers? Performance increases when using both AMD and Intel CPUs.
That's how you do it.

When Vega comes out and people start benching with AMD drivers it will be pretty interesting to see the results. It will also be interesting to see results from people benchmarking using Fury, Fury X and Fury Nano.

TLDW:

The Nivida API (or Cards, or both) seems to be really ****ed up. And because everyone is benching with Nvidia Cards, the benchmarks suck - hard.

We already saw this in some other cases ... now we really need a Fury X vs. 1080. He also said, when Vega gets out in some weeks, it will destroy any Nvidia Card in this game (and I can believe this...) - IMO it seems like the DX12 API IS really bad, but they optimized for the majority of the gamers with high single clocks that can feed the single Nvidia pipeline fast enough... They never had to think about many cores for the majority of the gamers.... and here it seems to begin lacking.

Looking at spending about $1500 ish on a Gaming PC build soon. Is it worth waiting to see how all of this AMD hype turns out? Will it have any impact for my price range? Just starting to look now since I haven't been in the market for a PC in like 10 years.

If you aren't in a hurry wait until later this year when coffee lake comes out. My money is on that volta will also launch late this year too.

In DX12 compatible games (most of the new games today), AMD drivers are much more optimized and will squeeze out a lot more frames than nVidia's drivers. You can choose to use DX11 mode in which nVidia is better optimized than AMD.

In the end DX12 is the new and is what will be used in the future, DX11 is old technology.

If I would buy a GPU now? Nah, I would wait.
I am considering buying Ryzen myself, but I currently have a 980Ti - so either I need to sell it or wait for optimization for DX12 which will utilize CPUs better (thus also the new Ryzen CPUs).

Definitively - nVidia have had a long time to make their DX12 drivers more mature, but the latest numbers show a huge disparity between AMD and nVidia. Vega will most likely be very good GPUs.

Ryzen is also maturing and their midrange CPUs are being released 11th of April and they will be very strong.

So to recap -- To get best utilization of CPUs & GPUs, DX12 needs to be used. nVidia currently has a bad implementation and AMD has a mature implementation (Which also helps Intel CPUs).

From just the one benchmark above - AMD's DX12 implementation is 24% more efficient than the comparable nVidia implementation.

That'd probably work (using the splitter as you suggested) as long as you only expect to game on either one or the other at any given time. I'm assuming you're just trying to avoid having to disconnect the cable every time you want to move it from the TV to the monitor and back?
