My favorite people to low ball are the ones that are moving and need to sell big things like furniture.

I tried to low ball this guy for his TV stand, for $100, he wouldn't accept, wanted $300 initially, then found his exact TV stand online for $295, only lowers to $275. Won't go any lower, so I guess he is hauling that stupid TV stand to Nevada with him and putting it in storage.

But now I found a nice TV stand, barely used, for $100 which I may pick up.

I usually sell my used stuff 50% cheaper on CL. I still get low balled. And most people ask full retail for most stuff. People don't know how to trade now a days, wtf. Ebay is better sometimes

If you know how to really lowball someone for dirt cheap, you can use their furniture, then resell it for a profit when you're done.

I've done that with patio furniture I bought at $600, used it 3 months, sold them all for $900. Easy $300 profit and got to use furniture.

You tend to get more for your value selling privately than you would to a dealer. That's a fact. Of course, you can still have a moron way overpricing something on a private sell.

I'm speaking from the perspective of the seller. Someone who is listing at a fair price isn't going to sell at a massive loss unless they're desperate or got the item for free. On the flip-side, that's inconsiquential to someone that just lowballs 24/7... they have nothing to lose.

I only negotiate price in person, if you're willing to come look at the item without being a pain in the ass about it i'll deal a little, ppl who lowball over email/phone or ask a ****load of fuking questions when all the information is already in the ad just get ignored or a simple "no"

Hate looking for anything on that site. Last year I needed a new car real quick...one idiot in particular I remember very well, wanted over $9k for his car with over 100k miles on it. I look at KBB and says the car with those options is worth $6.5k and tell him if he wants to unload it quickly I will give him KBB value. He responds with "it is worth $8.5k because it is in perfect condition (yeah, a car with over 100k miles that's been driven in snow is in perfect condition) and his extra wheels and tires are worth over $600, so his price is fair.

Didn't even respond, people are fukking stupid

There's the other side of this equation, I once saw a CL ad for a "gaming PC" with an FX-6100 and a Geforce 650, and the guy was selling it for like $4500 dollars. This was like 3 months ago BTW. I emailed the guy and asked if the price was a typo, it was not.

Kinda curious what the other specs were. But lol at that guy thinking he's going to offload a $4500 computer on craigslist.

Here's something that will make you cry. When I was in IT my former company gave to the recycling company 50+ dell engineering computers with dual xeon, 16 gig ecc ram, high end graphics card, etc. Each were worth about $5000 new. Could of easily been sold on ebay or craigslist for $1000 each. They just gave them away.... GAVE THEM AWAY. A tear came to my eye.

I tried Craigslist one time and never again cause I got sick and tired of dealing with those losers.

I was selling the Wi years ago, maybe 2 months after it came out I was selling it with 2 controllers, nunchucks, and like 3 games....

For a hundred less than the price of the Wi with just one controller.

Made sure to put my price was firm, etc and still had mouth breathers trying to lowball or even like "uhurrr durr, give me the system and just 2 controllers for $100".

The best thing about the PC the guy was selling was the case, it was a NZXT Noctis, everything else was subpar, didn't even have an SSD.

And I believe what you say, I'm in IT, and the things that I see thrown out or marked for recycling. Plus side is, I have a surplus of parts and other things because of this.

1.)Funniest would be I was meeting a guy to buy a used TV. I'm in the middle of this parking lot waiting, no one else parked nearby and this police SUV shows up.

2.)Another time, I met someone to buy some car parts. Guy looked like a gangster and when he got out of the car, a pistol fell out of his waistband. Just looked at it, then him as he grabbed it.

I looked at the parts and declined because they were in worse shape than the pictures showed. Plus I didn't want possible hot items. He tried lowering his price on the spot, but I said no and left.


3.)Broke my phone and found a used one on craigslist for a fair price. Was using this cheap walmart phone as a temporary. Agreed to meet the guy at a walgreens after a text exchange. I'm waiting in my car and this thug looking young kid shows up on a ratty BMX bike and just starts standing by the entrance. I'm thinking 'this better not be the guy'. Sure enough, he pulls out his phone and my phone starts ringing. Was like 'Fuuuuqqq'. I answer and he goes 'Yo man, I'm here at da place.'

Lets just say, I nope'd out of there and made up some lie that I didn't need it anymore. Lets just say he was less than pleased.

Just recently found out that hard drive magnets (10-15 of them) sell for 20 to 60 dollars online. I must of destroyed thousands of drives when i worked in IT ... and to think each one had two magnets in them

Luckily my apartments have cameras at the entrance and a lot of people coming and going usually. Otherwise, with the larger priced items i'd make them meet me at a police station. So far I've done a pretty good job of weeding out the weirdo's. IMO, it's usually their grammar that sends off alarm bells.
