Are you one of the people that wants new price for a used item?

I've even seen people who want higher than new prices for the exact bumper plates I could pick up at a local store.

Using my 5000th post to echo the sentiment.

Was selling a power rack, 450# of plates, full set of bumper plates, bar, etc. Ask $500, get offered $100 if I delivered it. Uh, okay..?

Never get angry in a negotiation op.

Make a counter offer, and justify your position. If you can't make a deal, move on.

I rofl at these people. They probably just put it up because their wife or something demands that they sell it and then they have an excuse to keep it since "no one wants it"

Negative ghost rider.

I just want a fair price. Or at least a serious counter offer that isn't $300 below my asking price.

You can't counter offer a lowball offer. There is no meet in the middle/split-the-difference on someone that is hundreds of dollars off. Just aint gonna happen.

This happens. Here is what you say:

"I just posted it and have seen some interest, so I'm not open to flexing on price. If you want, touch base in a week. If it hasn't sold I'll negotiate."

Most stuff sells by then, so you get to say "Somebody bought it, shouldn't have been a cheapskate." If not, you get to try and sell at the price you want, then already have a buyer lined up at what the market considers it to be worth.

I sold a sleeping bag to a young guy yesterday that showed up in his beat up Ford Fiesta with a bicycle in the backseat ... that was giving me the creepy, "I think you're cute" stare while pushing the sleeping bag back in the sack. While doing that, he asked me if I liked hiking and i cut him off and said, "$30 bucks".

Took my money and walked away.

$500...and the dude came and loaded it himself. Deleted literally 20 emails with similar low-ball offers, half of them emailed me again with crap like "Hey I want this, please respond". One dude even threatened me after I told him no thanks.

Craigslist is full of people looking for a deal so they can resell it.

It costs them nothing to low ball you, and if you accept they get a great deal and can resell it for profit.

It's not uncommon for someone on craigslist to spam pretty much every car/motorcycle classified ad with a bunch of low ball offers.

If they send out 100+ emails and one or two write back, then they're already winning.

It's not worth getting mad at people for low balling, half the time the person making the offers knows nothing about the product. They just see that it sells for say $300 on ebay, so if they can buy it from you for $50 or $100, then they're in the money.

lol @ selling and buying on CL. Shady asf, people lowball you nonstop, and usually whatever you're looking to buy is in wayyy worse condition than what's actually listed.

I use local ******** pages to sell and buy chit, -insert town/state- garage sale pages, buy/sell pages. 100 times better than CL

I have a pretty good method of low-balling on CL. Will send 8 really chitty offers from junk email accounts, then one slightly higher offer from real email. Sometimes the sellers are so tired of the low-balls they will accept the barely higher offer.

Works 60% of the time every time.

I never understood why sellers get so angry at low ball offers. A buyer will put in a low offer initially, negotiate with the seller, and hopefully meet somewhere in the middle. If the buyer won't budge on price, just tell them no. It's that simple. If an item is reasonably priced from the start you should have no problem selling it.

If you list something for lets say $1000 and you know that is a fair price. It's one thing for someone to offer $900. It's a completely different thing when they offer $500.

I generally just say, "Thanks, but it is worth much more than that."

There is no middle point when someone is that far off on their counter offer.
