Not trying to hijack OPs thread, just bored during NHL intermission...
Not pulling over is one thing, but many drivers take it even further. I can't tell you how many times I've had somebody just slam on their brakes and stop in the middle of the lane/road. I get it, people are intimidated when they see us coming up behind them at 65 mph and they might not know what to do, but it blows my mind that the maneuver they settle on is to stop in the middle of the road.

Something that's always annoyed me about the fighterfighting industry is that most of it is occupied by volunteers which makes it much harder for regular folks striving to make a career out of it. You don't see this in any other public service industry doing this and it just goes against the capitalistic nature of what Canada/America is supposed to be

Ha I usually get asked if im in a calendar (actually have been featured in one haha). But this profession does get its fair share of badge bunnies for sure.

You gotta nerwork a little bit and kiss a little ass. But you still have to put in the time and effort to get your certs. Not too many departments will just hire anyone without the proper certs.
Theres a process. Car crashes with fatalities are treated as a crime scene until proven otherwise. So we'll open the car up enough for EMS crews to put a monitor on the deceased victim to confirm their status.
If there is a fatality we turn the scene over to law enforcement. After they conclude their investigation we'll continue extrication. Kinda a long answer ha.
We were in a structure fire doing a primary search. Me and another firefighter went in to conduct the search, we're down on our hands and knees, cant see ****, but the floor. i come across this little moving ball in the hallway.
As i got closer to it, i see that it is a hamster on the floor. It was standing up on its hind legs with its little arms out like it wants me to pick it up.
So I pick it up and put it in my bunker gear pocket. Amazingly finished the search without sqaushing the little guy. The guys at the station gave me a lot of **** for saving a hamster.
Something i dont spend much time thinking about. But i obviously hope i dont get cancer!

Its a very rewarding job. I wanted to help ppl. This was a great way of doing that. But i love almost everything about this job. It has its good and bad days just like any job. And thanks for the support partner!

Ha wtf are you talking about? I never pulled a hamster out of anyones ass. You guys are jumping to some weird ass conclusions.
You gotta nerwork a little bit and kiss a little ass. But you still have to put in the time and effort to get your certs. Not too many departments will just hire anyone without the proper certs.
Theres a process. Car crashes with fatalities are treated as a crime scene until proven otherwise. So we'll open the car up enough for EMS crews to put a monitor on the deceased victim to confirm their status.
If there is a fatality we turn the scene over to law enforcement. After they conclude their investigation we'll continue extrication. Kinda a long answer ha.
We were in a structure fire doing a primary search. Me and another firefighter went in to conduct the search, we're down on our hands and knees, cant see ****, but the floor. i come across this little moving ball in the hallway.
As i got closer to it, i see that it is a hamster on the floor. It was standing up on its hind legs with its little arms out like it wants me to pick it up.
So I pick it up and put it in my bunker gear pocket. Amazingly finished the search without sqaushing the little guy. The guys at the station gave me a lot of **** for saving a hamster.
Something i dont spend much time thinking about. But i obviously hope i dont get cancer!

But serious question do you guys get involved in the modification of fire safety standards n stuff. Like for instance are surveys, questionnaires etc done to acquire info from you guys as to what you would like changed? And can you guys as a unit etc liase with say a mayor or something?

Your absolutely right that it matters where you are. My department is competitive. There is a pay scale. And having extra certs helps in raising pay. HOWEVER, you do typically start out low (around $40k). However, there is a 10 step pay scale at most departments. At my department, you receive about $3500 increase in payroll every year for 10 years. So after 10 years, as a fire fighter, you can have a base salary of $70k. That goes up with overtime pay, ect. Lifting obese or elderly folks who have fallen, welfare checks, people who are stuck somewhere but not hurt, etc.
