but yikes....he's 5. I'm not sure about your kids, but most 5 year olds I know are pretty clumsey and have no situational awareness. If you saw that he was riding towards a busy street do you think he would he have the wherewithal to steer away from it?

and even if it only goes 5mph, you can pick up some serious speed if you start coasting down a hill, which limits the kids ability to steer away from danger.

IDK, I live in the city, so I have a greater inclination of being a helicopter parent if I have kids than someone that lives in the country.

Its an awesome gift, but 5 is scary young for something like that. But, you know your kids better than us so, I hope this is the right choice.

He rides his BMX like a champ and shows no signs of irrationally riding towards a main road.

Despite that, he will be taken to a park with a large open green with zero obstacles and roads nearby so that he can get used to it.

By the way, I just had a little go on it and 5mph is walking pace.

true, 5 mph is a brisk walk, but when hills are in play, 5 can turn into 15 which turns into 20 mph pretty quick. I'd hate to see a real life reenactment of Pet Sematary.

Do they not have electric ride-on toys in America or something? Honestly having trouble understanding the hysteria.

All our toy shops are filled with them.

This is not a gas powered dirt bike.

That is dope. Reliving memories when my dad got me mine at 5 :')
I'd get a 90cc bike/ATV instead. Electric is just meh and won't lasts as long.
On the other hand, if you're not going to use it often, electric is fine.

yeah we've got them (even the electric ones), but they're not made for 5 year olds. When it comes to adolescent kids, a year makes a big difference. Like I said i'm looking at this from the perspective of someone that lives in the city. If I were to get a toy like that for my kid they'd have to be in the 7-10 year old range.

Most of the electric ride-on toys over here are actually designed for under 5's.

Do you plan on getting your kid a bike? How would he/she fare in a city on a pedal bike?

I probably wouldn't get them a bike if I lived in a city but that's pretty sad.

Technically you are correct. Although not really, since electric bikes are legal.

However I remember one day a Police Officer beeped his horn and waved at my son when he was riding his electric digger on the public pavement.

If you bother to visit any park popular with children (actually you probably already do for sinister and disturbing reasons) you'll see countless kids riding electric scooters etc. Nobody gives 3 chits.

Honestly Sam, I think you just need to get yourself some spray on hair, start lifting, and try to relax now and again.

What in the phuk are you on about? Do you not realize the bike comes with brakes? His kid is already smashing it around on a bike. You're acting like he hasn't even learned to balance on two wheels yet.

OP - Your kid is gonna love it. As long as he respects it and is careful, it's a great present. Kids that young get gas powered pit bikes and small ATV's where I'm from. LMAO.
