ITT: OP took one Muay Thai class, and thinks he is Raiden.

For some reason people think MMA fighters can't pick up a bat and club you in the head with it, because it's "against the rules in the octagon" lol

I don't need to fight dirty lmao. And if someone pulls a weapon on me they better fatally injure or kill me or they'll end up on the receiving end of it with zero mercy.

As for you trying to bag me, just lol. In a serious fight, you try and kick my balls and I'll be grabbing your foot and breaking your leg at the kneecap.

MMA is a great tool for mental/physical conditioning but please realize that it gives you little to no backing in any real life situation.

Lol at thinking trained fighters somehow lack the ability to fight dangerously. This is the false bravado that you should beware, not the one you stated.
Did you even read my post?

I referred to farmboys, hockey/rugby players, marital artists, MMA brahs... generally everyone dumb or unlucky enough to willfully engage in combat. Then you're on about how much harder a trained fighter can kick.

I sincerely doubt that you are truly aware of the dangers of a street fight or rather combat based on your ****posting ITT. You actually proved yourself wrong: You're unaware of the danger. I am baffled as to why you're actually green m9.

I encourage you to look @ yourself in the mirror before you post ITT again.

Your entire point sits on the phrase: "sport have rules". If you had read the OP, even in the first paragraph I stated that if they had weapons you're still fuked. If you happened to read the fuking thing we won't even be having this discussion. You're just stating the obvious.
In fact, the OP wasn't even about street fights until a few insecure snowflakes came in and made it about street fights, coping against the fact that a trained person will easily put them in the ICU in a in a fight. They started talking about their guns and how combat sports have rules, which is completely irrelevant.

I think combat sports should be an additional school activity, where a lot of kids can take out their anger and aggression in a controlled and competitive manner. However, learning how to fight is just natural selection, either you got hands or you don't.

That's a terrible idea. I played rugby growing up and had my share of concussions. Even now I feel its affects though I am only in my 30s. At times I find myself lost in thought and unable to complete sentences. I definitely feel something off about my self. Combat sports would probably be much worse. I know I would never send my kids to do that kind of stuff when their brains are still forming. Minimal or no contact sports are the way. I don't want my kids to have future problems down the road. It is scary srs.

Make sure the combat sport you're doing allow full contact sparring/fighting. This rules out most Taekwondo and many Karate dojos. One thing to look for in a gym is if they have any amateur/pro fighters. If they don't, they're useless..

Cliff: everybody should learn to fight
you can literally be taught all that was mentioned above without hard sparring, going to a gym with pro/amateur fighting

Exactly. Anyone that thinks getting hit in the head all day with a padded glove is fun is probably suffering from a good bit of brain damage.

1. Yes, trained fighter will beat untrained fighter 7/10 times (estimated)
2. Trained fighter will likely walk away from escalation due to not needing to fight to satisfy ego and understanding the outcome is never worth the risk of damage in a street fight.

I did read it and you mention "Street Fight" in the OP m9.

No, you missed my point entirely.
Point: False Bravado based on Combat Sports experience is dangerous, especially if your skinny/weak/manlet who is quick to anger and unable to avoid confrontation and diffuse situations.
Point:Street fighting and personal combat are nothing to aspire to imho.Go ahead and discuss your sports, but seriously stfu about the "streets" you know nothing about.

1. assumes 1:1. ok den
2. Agree, and I hope so. This should be so paramount that I can't understand why you even mention #1 and #5. " I train Judo for altercations"... uhhhh
3. Being there in the first place means you messed up big time. srs
4. data dere dojo... what is this a movie? just lol
5. If you were really in the streets you'd use your wits 1st, your running ability 2nd, 3rd likely a weapon m9.

9. again dat dere dojo. You know what HA look like, mafia goons, ms13, or how about tirads? Ever been jumped by an Asian gang or ****lians? How about Prison tattoos? Ever been confronted by someone on PCP? There are extremely dangerous individuals out there that never trained a day in Wrastlin' or MMA.

When I was between 13 and 17 I learned sparing and grappling long before these gyms were called MMA gyms. It was a great experience learning that I wasn't even close to tough. A punch to the face is really f-ing hard to avoid and defend as a novice. Most self defense training is kind of BS but learning how to use distance and how to escape/take a dominant position on ground actually matters.

Its good to have a school that teaches "learn to fight but never need to".

The health benefits, confidence and camaraderie were all legit.
Eat in a deficit to lose weight.
Hit your protein and fat minimums to stay healthy and keep your gainz.
Lift heavy and do HIIT to look and feel awesome.
Use the internet to learn why you should do these things and how to do these things.

Ill be getting my son into BJJ classes ASAP...if anything just so he can defend himself if need be. After that I will toss him in every sport I can find and see what sticks....not going to push him to do anything he doesn't give 100% too.

I have actually... wasn't a big guy by any means but he had no concept of pain... and was high as the fkn moon so there was no talking him down. I am convinced his head could of been taking off and his body would of still tried to come at me.

At the elite level, yeah. Natural talent plays a big role. But with proper training you can make a weakling into a half decent fighter.

It's a known fact that football/rugby players suffer more concussion and head trauma than combat sport athletes. Being tackled at 20 miles/hour by a 250 lbs football player is worse than a punch in the face.

That can certainly be argued. But going to a gym without hard sparring is worthless. Sparring where your partner taps you gently doesn't simulate a full-on fight. It's like training for the NFL by playing flag football. You don't have to spar hard all the time, but it is a necessity. Also, the presence of pro/amateur fighters is the testament of the gym's quality of instruction.

You don't get hit on the head all day. You get hit hard a few times until you learn to keep your hands up and evade/block properly. My only concussion (mild) happened in one of my first few sparring session, and that was an eye-opener, since then I learn to keep my hands up.
Also boxers suffer from the most concussions in all combat sports because they go hard almost 100% of the time. Other arts don't do this. In Muay Thai we go technical sparring most of the time, with hard sparring once in a while or often close to the fight event.

The argument of grappling vs striking I think is the matter of perception. For me, I do not want to be tangled on the ground in a street fight where it's hard for me to run away.
Lifting weights is mostly an isolated activity, at least in my experience.
I only ever saw gnarled ears on MMA fighters and veteran boxers. Guess it has something to do with the gloves. Padded gloves don't mangle the ears like MMA gloves do.

Wouldn't make this thread if I didn't.

Stupid *******. Read the OP again. I said street fights are never the answer, and if they have a weapon you're ****ed. Never did I mention the benefits of streetfighting or aspire to fight on the street, only started talking about it when stupid phucks come in and without reading the OP assume that since I am trained I think I can just go around playing the knockout game or pick fights with people. I agree with most of what you said so stfu already.

Here're the things combat training won't protect you from:

-individuals with weapons
-multiple individuals (unless youre extremely skilled)
-people on drugs who don't feel pain
-people with aggressive dogs who can sic them on you
-gangbangers who will jump and kill you
-armed trigger-happy people who wants to shoot you
-a better fighter

But you know what, if you're untrained, on top of that long list, you can also add:

+anybody who is bigger and stronger than you

Agree with OP, I dont understand all the hate itt. Muay Thai has built up my confidence, given me a great workout and is incredibly humbling. I do it in a college town and the guys I train with are all pretty close. Wish I had started earlier

Muay Thai crew. Some of my favorite moments are after a night training session and the gym closes and your gym buddies stand around and chill in the parking lot. Or taking a group picture. Would rep but on RC

Partially true. An opponent with a bat needs to be close enough to make contact while not being so close that there is no way to swing. This is the core principle behind fighters jumping between out of range and the clinch.

If you know to exploit range you are going to be better off against an armed attacker than a novice would be by a very wide margin.
Eat in a deficit to lose weight.
Hit your protein and fat minimums to stay healthy and keep your gainz.
Lift heavy and do HIIT to look and feel awesome.
Use the internet to learn why you should do these things and how to do these things.

Technically yes but i've never seen it happen save for this video where a mexican guy calmly knocked down and held down a guy with a knife, but the guy seemed to be drunk as fuk and could barely stand. Either way it's extremely risky
