Working out is a fun hobby. Nothing more, nothing less.
If every time you get back from the gym you have to write some long winded self congratulatory rant on social media about courage and sacrifice, as if you just got back from a tour of combat in the middle east, then I'm here to tell you that you should just QUIT. Yep that's right. QUIT! It's not worth it *******. JUST QUIT!

Facts.
Facts.
Anyone who is obsessed with declaring themselves superior is pretty pathetic tbh. Imho the lifters who overcompensate like this are often those who've never done a real sport. I know this one* insecure guy who is basically just a chubby awkward basement-dweller, but he lifts and will constantly remind you of that.
*IRL; I also obviously know plenty of miscers.

Agree to some extent op, but I respect people who care about their fitness and physical health. Doesn't matter if it's weightlifting or not though.
Not to say that I disrespect people who don't though, it's just that all else equal I'm not rating them as highly
Which, to be honest, is a natural bias that occurs with respect to all hobbies - you like people who share the same values as you

Agree that the simple act of lifting should not be a source of pride and I also cringe when seeing the attention whoring on social media and the ridicolous portrayal of lifting as some epic mental and physical battle.
That being said, if you are natty and look like you lift, you should be proud of that. Good natty physiques are extremely rare and it takes alot of hard work, not to mention the consistency of the hard work, which is where most people fail. Everyone can train hard and eat right for a month, but doing it over years when the law of diminishing returns sets in takes a certain character/willpower.

RIP any muscle I have. Going for that triathlete physique & lifestyle for the next year or so. I never look down on people, but urge people to find something they enjoy that requires them to get out of the house.
lol hard at the motivational posts on IG that come with some miscers bathroom selfie. I try not to lol too hard because I use to do the same crap but without the cringey motivation lines. I was just a straight up attention whore (still am bbys but in different ways)

Exercising/lifting is just one of many reasons why I think I'm better than others. (semi srs)

Being fit and healthy is nothing to sneeze about and something to be proud of. That's becomes exponentionally true when you add in diet because it takes discipline and self-control.
Also correction, working out is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

I'm hoping to do a triathlon somewhere nice for my 40th birthday, maybe a half iron if I'm ready for it by then. Good luck with your goals.
Like others have said - people are obsessed with comparisons these days, you can see it in pretty much everything. Someone thinks you're trash for not being in the same line of work they are; some think you're trash if you're married these days.
Funny story: last week in the gym one of the meathead type bodybuilders asked if he could follow my workout, saying I do some exercises he hasn't done before. He wrote on Whatsapp to me, I kid you not (after the work out) "u are the so strong man - i dont think like this gahahaha - i think u are training like a girls but i m wrong man" - verbatim. I had barely noticed this guy in the gym and wonder what the hell some people are doing in this world - staring at others, not looking within any more?
