Your personal opinion of what constitutes training for a sport you have little experience matters little.
I spent 6 years skating from the age of 12, invested thousands upon thousands of hours practicing. I think I know what training is and how the learning process goes more than a powerlifter...

There are no genetics for skateboarding either, so you really do learn what it means to learn a craft without having the benefit of good genetics, something that doesnt go for powerlifting. It's a level playing field.

I'll tell a quick story, long story short, at the age of 19 yrs old I was working in construction, and long story short there was this dude basically bullying me, he was taller and heavier than me, I would say 5'11'' 180 lbs while I was only 5'7'' 135 lbs, now I had already started lifting at the age of 15 but this was my size, and yes I was pretty strong for my size but one day me and my bully got in an physical altercation where he actually wrestled me down to the ground, and I put all my strength to beat him but he beat me, he was stronger than me, he didn't ''beat me up'' but he pinned me down to the grown and raised his fist as he was going to punch me, I said ''ok stop, I give up, you win'', and that was that. I remember being so mad at myself, because I KNEW I had slacked in the gym, meaning I kinda lost my drive for bodybuilding, and I was barely working out. I knew for sure that if I kept training the way I once did, I would be much stronger and there would be no way this dude could beat me. This was a lesson in life, it was then when I knew the importance of physical strength, make no mistake about it physical strength matters in a fight! as I got older I got into fights and learned to fight and wrestle, I continued to get stronger, there are certain things in life that happen for a reason, being extremely strong is not pointless, there could be a situation where you have to fight 5+ guys at once, being strong comes in handy, I know of a dude who is extremely strong and he fought 5 dudes on his own and won, they basically jumped him, but he is a powerhouse, he literally beat the crap out of 5 dudes simply because he is a powerlifter (they messed with the wrong guy) he has no boxing experience or anything, just knows how to fight from fighting in the streets

When it comes to skateboarding, of course! However, not when it comes to powerlifting though. Do you not see the flaw in your logic?

Skateboarding is far harder to learn than the powerlifting lifts...

You will not be a world class skater after 5 years, you could be if you were a powerlifter with good genetics.

You don't think athletic ability play a factor in skatboarding. You can't be serious

You are wrong, simple as that.

If you had some sort of credible experience or source to back your claims of powerlifting, we'd have a decent debate on our hands. However, you are stating your uninformed opinions on something as fact.

Conclusion: you are trolling, as I refuse to believe you are this dense.

All I know is that everyone I came across who was substantially better than others spent all day practicing, myself included.
If athletic ability was highly important, there would be outliers, but I never came across any.

What evidence?

Thousands of hours in what time frame?

In a day? lol. Some sports are too physicaly taxing to do so.

However, top level powerlifters are consumed by training year in and year out.

Same with skateboarding. Same with soccer. Thank you come again.

Lol. Ryan Sheckler, gold medal @ 13. Tom Schaar, gold medal @ 14. Surely skateboarding doesn't matter as much as any other sport, since a 13 year old can get gold. He didn't put in enough hours.

Sheckler started when he was around 4-5 I believe, could ollie at 4 and started to learn mini skating at 7
Dont know about Schaar

Fail

The only pro to do it in roughly that time frame was Rodney Mullen who clearly has autistic tendencies, not to mention he lived in the middle of nowhere and spent his entire teenage life on a board.

I know about skateboarding, you do realise there are no pros that have made it in in a few years? Its illogical to assume that Schaar would be pro after a few years since nobody has done it, and I just read he has been skating for 8 years before he turned pro.

If I had no knowledge of skating, you would be correct for me brushing that aside, but I do, so you are wrong.

yes.

aesthetics and health >>> strength and being a fat fook with damaged joints.

obviously lifting will get you stronger in a general sense but the powerlifting levels of strength are just dumb and not applicable.

There are some serious folks that do it so I can't hate on their sport as a whole.

The only people I personally know who do it transitioned to it after a couple years of half-assing bodybuilding and making very little progress... and as soon as they switched to powerlifting they started spewing their failure induced hate onto bodybuilding. Phukkin' ****s, the lot of 'em.

Not if they are really good at it. I'd power lift if I was gifted with the kind of strength to compete nationally. Why not?

I mean I could go squat 40 hours this week but it would do more harm than good. Recovery is a major part of making progress so while you can spend multiple hours a day 5 days a week playing soccer and improving at the craft, you really can't spend 3 or 4 hours a day 5 days a week squatting without getting past the point of diminishing returns.

TBH in my experience powerlifters have been some of the most accepting folks. Sure we joke around with bodybuilding but it's in good fun.
