Spot on. It seems every time I browse Reddit there's an actual advertisement on the front page disguised as an OC post. How do people not see that?!! It's not mildly interesting that your burger has three different types of cheese on it, alphabetized, with the drink label facing outward.

Wutt.. I think it has everything to do with it. Though im not disagreeing theres a social aspect on forums. Of course, there is, there are no forums without people talking about stuff.

But on social media youre usually posting for attention or trying to garner attention, whether it be a brand or a personality.

Im the complete opposite with misc. I DONT want attention. I contribute to conversations, but i dont make threads trying to garner attention

Id say posting threads is exactly like social media, but im not sure srs. Discussion threads are

Trying to talk about something with a group vs. Trying to escalate your image in some way are different

Um, when you talk you’re usually trying to garner attention. Unless you only talk to yourself. Then youre a fukking weirdo.

When you ask your mom how shes doing, you’re legitimately trying to garner her attention to see how shes doing.

And no offense, but to people who claim they dont want attention, that theyre the “complete opposite’” etc is just like a girl who says omg im so ugly someone compliment me. Saying “Im the complete opposite” says “Hey look at me, im so unique. Im not like everyone else.”

Its just like people who blast IG models. IG models love instant gratification...likes. Etc.

Well pointing the finger at that is the ultimate knee-jerk reaction. Its like hating trump. Its just the easy thing to do.

Conversations are about shifting attention for the result of quality banter. It is what it is

this

im literally posting right now so i can get your attention, along with anyone else reading this thread. I also secretly hoping that someone validates my post by giving me a positive reputation point (Not rep begging, trying to make a point) or quoting me and responding.

misc is a social media platform, same as ******** and Instagram with their "likes" and "upvotes" and "karma" systems.

Let's not try and act like we're so special or different from the rest of the world...There's nothing wrong with social media. Human beans are inherently social beans. It's as much a necessity as food, water, and shelter, at least in regards to maintaining some level of sanity

Im literally posting right now to see if you have any insight im unaware of to see if you have any ideas that add to mine.

I dont see how thats a draw for attention. Also, this has nothing to do with trying to be different?

Just saying how forums CAN work

I guess if you boil language down to "attention" then i agree. Id argue its more for the ability to communicate

I will also concede that forums CAN be used for attention for sure

The co-founder of ******** admit that Social media causes MORE and MORE division in society and allows the propagation of fake news and social engineering. It also promotes narcissistic personalities and drives a wedge in relationships. Seriously, Social Media has done much much more harm than good.

Then you divert attention. However, to do that, you either need to disappear from the world or get someones attention to notify them that the attention should shift to another party.

Im just saying sometimes there are times when we use speech so as to NOT draw attention. The words draw attention one way while the real attention doesnt want to be drawn upon

So to say speech inherently has attention written to it is false imo

But whatever dude ill concede theres a lot of attention here
