Look, if you're talking about friendship then yes it is completely possible to be friends with someone, because guess what - not everyone wants to bang everyone else. Yeesh, this forum makes it sound like any guy who doesn't want to bang a woman is automatically homosexual. Standards and principles, folks.
I have female friends, albeit far fewer than male friends.

I don't see anything wrong with people in relationships having friendships of this kind. If you really believe that the chance of catching feels is so high I wonder what this stems from.
For example, a few years ago I took a friend (a German model) to a social function with me because my wife didn't feel like going. At that party, many of the guys assumed my friend is my affair, and although I said we were just friends they wouldn't let it go. But this says more about their inability to have a beautiful woman as a friend than about mine. And this sort of projection that I'm seeing in this thread (speaking so confidently about what the masses are capable of) reads on the rather cynical side of realism to me.

Outside of meeting at a hobby and doing hobby type things, I can't see how any straight guy would be friends with a girl unless he wants to secretly bang her.

Get your friend drunk, and his true feelings will come out. What could u have in common with them if they aren't gay?

I generally enjoy women’s company more, but yes I have male friends
Maybe at one time or another they thought that the relationship might develop, who knows? If it hasn’t been obvious it’s just supposition.
If they had made a move it either would have or wouldn’t gone somewhere, if so the relationship would most likely to be over so they would no longer be around.
If they haven’t made a move it must be because, shock horror, they don’t fancy me (I know how dare they, isn’t everything about sex? Not srs) or they value the friendship more in which case we are friends
But if we are supposed to start worrying and being unduly concerned about fleeting physical reactions or thoughts then nobody would spend any time with anybody else
Cos we all have bizarre thoughts at times.

Yo, maymay.... Yeah. Apparently all males want to fuk you. If you put them in the zone and kill their chances, then they tend to mellow their attentions. I've got several guy friends and they know that I won't fuk with them. Some are even married and that's where I find the "no man can be friends with a woman" thing so uncomfortable and weird. None of my male guy friends who I have zoned have ever tried to put the move on me.
But I've maintained great friendships with guys. That we're seemingly very platonic. Who the fuk knows what goes on in the male's brain? They have their own kind of logic... *Sigh*

I think you can have female friends at work if there's a lot of banter and chit but definitely not if you're just talking about your feelings cos no guy is gonna give a fuk about that unless he's trynna get some ass.

I don’t think wanting to bang someone is mutually exclusive with being friends. You can have sexual attraction to someone and be friends without actually having feelings for them in the romantic sense.
I’ve been tight with my closest chick friend for like five years now. Granted, it started off not platonic and we did hook up once. And there’s definitely still lingering physical attraction. But it’s certainly not romantic. She’s honestly more masculine than me and thinks like a dude (which is probably why it works out). She lacks the feminine warmth and energy that I’m attracted to in a romantic sense, which is why I don’t see her as someone I’d want to date. But she’s loyal, thinks like me, and is one of the few people I have close to 100% honesty with especially since nothing can possibly offend her or weird her out.
I will say that true male/female friendships are a lot rarer than women believe. But it’s not a 100% impossible thing like some Miscers believe.

and a male female friendship is generally more complementary than a same sex one

yes.
I consider some girls who i share similar lines of thinking/hobbies with, but find physically repulsive, to be friends.
Either the repulsiveness is mutual, or if they were seeing me as someone that is potentially more than a friend, they'll clue on quickly because the way I interact with them will be friendly/neutral with no hint of sexual desire whatsoever.
