People who are saying you can just fight it unscathed clearly haven't lived with a house cat. I used to play with my cats all the time and 80% of the time I could avoid it swiping at me.

But that other 20%, those claws cause some damage. I can imagine not playing, sharper and longer claws, honed wild attacks, longer reach, unrelenting offense and panic taking over. You'd get wrecked. Not to mention you've had plenty of experience playing with your cat so you know its speed.

No experience with this and it's easy to say with hindsight but in the video it looks like he walked by some pretty large throwable rocks. I like to think I would have thrown some at it to try and scare it away but who knows what would have happened.

If I did not see the original thread I would have assumed it was a street fight situation.
Nonetheless it is better to run from a danger than fight it even if you believe a cornered jackal is a dangerous animal.

Perhaps the experienced practitioners of various martial arts may chime in but my Tae Kwon Do teacher advised us in a real situation you should deliver a swift kick to the groin to temporarily disable the aggressor and make a run for it.

even domestic house cats, when in play mode stalk you when your back is turned. My fight or flight would be in serious conflict but not keeping eye contact would be a mistake with a wild cat of well, any size.

I would make a lot of noise, make myself big, hopefully I'm fishing and have my good knife on me. I would stand my ground and NEVER turn my back on the cat. I would probably end up dead or seriously injured but I would have to try to survive.
