Going to be overpriced and nothing like the original thus ruining most of why people liked them in the first place. Honestly wish they'd just restomod these for the most part with similar looks and just some updated tech and performance.
Look at the NSX (cool car but not like the original). Give it time, honda will phuk up the s2k too.

I have a feeling they are going to ignore everything that made the original Supra great...
I bet it doesn't have overbuilt everything and a block that is hard to destroy....I bet you get what Toyota considers just enough with a locked out ECU that reports back into Toyota if a tune is attempted...
If you want more you can buy their specialty model that is 3x the price of what it would cost you to mod it yourself AND you get the privelage of paying dealer markup.
The car makers are taking two paths:
1) Create a line of bolt on mods that are approved and maintain warranty to capture every last dollar. Rigorously deny warranty claims on external mods and make you take them to court and prove your mod didn't cause the failure. This is why some mod companies are hiring legal teams to represent their products when a manufacturer claims their parts caused failure as a customer service.
2) ECU locked - buy specialty product and pay for their version of right
The days of modding are coming to an end boyos...

On second thought, Toyota should have just built this on the new Miata chassis, as they already have a partnership with Mazda. Make it a coupe with similar lines to the Miata, but beef up everything to handle 350-400hp in a 2200lb car. That would have been compelling.
Or, make something like the Alfa 4c, but without Italian reliability.

This sounds like what the next frs/brz should be.This. people still looking at numbers. 2Jz power curve was fantastic and ahead of its time. was fun to drive. it was always a massive torque monster from down low. Lol if you compare this with the lil boxer turbo engines who need to fill the turbos before launch.
Also need to look at the 86, balance and fun was amazing despite lacking big numbers.
If this has similar handling and balance to the 86 with twice the power it would be a great car.

Last gen bodystyle was an all-time classic and it was a beast for $40k.
New one will be at least $80k and get eaten alive by all the other performance options at that price.

just lmao that toyota thinks it's acceptable to release a performance car with those numbers in 2019. other manufacturers are putting out better numbers on turbo'd 4 bangers.
plus, it looks like a god damn insect. the Nissan GT-R wasn't a looker when it was released, but i could digest the design. this thing is horrendous on all levels. even the light weight won't save you from being embarrassed by $40k cars. and i think this car will retail for $80k. why not just get an m4 at that point?
