the TLJ is **** because rian johnson obviously didn't understand the lore, regardless of how big of a fan he claimed to be. There was no progression for Rey or for Kylo. I don't mind Kylo being whiny, because fighting on emotion is a Sith thing. The problem is that he remained whiny for the entire movie, with no progression of elevating his skills and using his emotion strategically (like mace windu). Rey was OP from the start. And the Luke thing (and leia flying) is clear that the writers had no idea who or what the character was, and what they did to get there. They essentially scrapped everything we knew about Luke and made him someone else. That wasn't an attack on the white man.
Nothing to do with race. I agree there was a diversity agenda in casting, but that didn't play a role in bad writing and the bastardization of SW.

Race isn't even the main in new SW's diversity pushing, it's gender/feminism. Just cut the word "white" out of my earlier post and it will mean the same thing.

I certainly would have at least given the fans what they wanted and thats Luke being a badass on screen. I'll go as far as saying I probably would have killed off Luke as well, but it would have been in a battle against Snoke and it would have been one of the most noble deaths of a character ever caught on screen, not dying like a pussy from "exhaustion."ANYWAY,

They could have made up some side quest for him where he goes out to try to find his parents or some chit. ANYTHING would have been better than the pointlss CGI infested trip to that casino planet and being preached to about animal cruelty.

(C) Reboot Episode VII, start over with a brand new store featuring no Mary Sues and starring Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford from the start.

Although I'm not invested in the franchise regardless, at least option (C) opens up brand new possibilities while salvaging two beloved film characters instead of piling even more scheisse upon their cinematic graves. Hell, Episode VII was pretty much a giant Star Wars remix that offered nothing noteworthy to begin with, so it's not as though they'd be losing anything of value.
They screwed themselves from the beginning by having JJ "Mystery Box" Abrams write a bunch of random nonsense for XII without a f**k-all clue as to where his menagerie of threads would logically lead towards. Lucas might have had some batty, often downrighthorribleideas, but at least he had a planned sequence of events building off of one another towards an actual ending.
Subsequently, Rian Johnson pretty much had carte blanche to do whatever the hell he felt like becauseKennedyand co. didn't have a plan written out, so just film a bunch of stuff that can be turned into toys.
What's a real laugh is that now they're handing the seriesbackto JJ Abrams, as though this hack who has never been able to put together an ending after his incessant mystery box opening plan has finally run its course will be able to piece together not just one but nowtwoclusterf**ks that are supposed to somehow also have any semblance of closure.
Typically, a sequel of a planned trilogy might suffer from a shaky second act syndrome in which they merely serve to set up the final conclusion rather than be able to stand alone as a solid entry - by everything I've heard of TLJ, it's like Rian Johnson somehow managed to make a sequel awful enough to (1) fail as a standalone film, (2) retroactively lessen the previous installment, and (3) set up the final film to be in an untenable position to explain how all three parts form a semi-coherent arc. How do you successfully tell a three part story if the middle act went on a bender and kamikaze'd itself between the first and last acts?
When I heard about that, I had to do a double-take. Rian Johnson has to be a fukking moron to stick with that decision instead of asking Disney for time to reshoot and bring Luke back from his sorry-ass death.

After hearing Mark Hamill speak against what they did to Luke before Mickey presumably had a little "talk" with him to stop badmouthing XII before it was even out, it was like listening to a broken man who was still trying to rationalize just how broken he had become.

they should've just killed him off, i don't care for "sjw agendas" but that character along with the short viet girl are completely unnecessary. that asian pilot who died though, they coulda used that character. a tough asian girl pilot/gunner character would be pretty unique. no wk. they even made an action figure for her even though she literally had like 2 minutes of screen time lmao

the thief was interesting but they ****ed it too. so much potential with that character.

That's great but unfortunately we still have a few problems.
1) You can't undo the absolute mockery of the Star Wars franchise known as The Last Jedi. The damage that film has done is nearly irreversible.
2) Rian Johnson is still set to direct a new trilogy. Honestly at this point I'd rather have Kennedy stay and Rian Johnson go. He is an absolute smug ******* who used TLJ to basically tell longtime fans to go **** themselves as well as insert some politics into the film while he was at it. His inability to look critically at his own film and instead play the race/sex/gender card only leads me to believe that he's going to insert even more of his own personal agenda into the next trilogy. Seriously, Rian Johnson is an absolute piece of ****.
3) I think Abrams is going to salvage what he can and make the third film as decent as he can, that said I also thought TFA was complete garbage as well.
Oddly enough the standalone films have been the only ones I've enjoyed (enjoyed, not loved) so far.
Overall, Disney MASSIVELY failed in its management of the new films and it really didn't have to be this way. Had they embraced the lifelong fans, they could have had them as a huge fanbase driving interest and excitement and new/young fans would also be into the franchise. Instead, they alienated a huge portion of the fanbase and eliminated a huge ally they could have had. Imagine if the longtime fans/nerds actually LOVED the new films and storylines? We would be talking about it 24/7 and people would be seeing the films just to see what the fuss is about. Instead you have a crowd who is either silent or only speaking negatively of the franchise which is absolutely hurting ticket and merchandise sales.

Funny how fans will lose interest (or be actively hostile) when you ignore them, actively subvert them and outright tell them that they are racist/sexist trolls whose opinion doesn't matter unless they like the films.
Shot their biggest cash cow in an abortive attempt to breed a new one that was never going to be as profitable. Complete **** up.

Especially when Marvel is achieving massive success with the grand scale coordination of the plot and story, literally at the same time this new SW trilogy is being made.
Somehow Disney thought it would be cool to let directors step on each others toes, and fire anyone who disagreed with Kennedy. They deserve every bit of criticism.
Somehow Disney thought it would be cool to let directors step on each others toes, and fire anyone who disagreed with Kennedy. They deserve every bit of criticism.
Then there is the whole other matter of catering to feminists/social justice wankers overall.
But those are just broad stroke issues that exacerbate those already pouring out of the entirety of the sh*te "plot" they've concocted. None of the characters are likable, all fan favorites are dead
The Heroes:
- Rey: Also see: Mary Sue. Girl always looks like she'skindof confused or she's trying to force a massive schit:

- Finn: In John Boyega's defense, he gets a lot of flack for being cast for diversity, but I think that it should be clarified that Disney pretty much turned him into a token, comedy relief character. As Maestro said, they could have done some genuinely interesting things with this character because it's such a unique perspective from the Star Wars standpoint. He's an expat who is now wanted dead by his former comrades and should be facing mistrust by his new ones. However, even his arc in TFA makes zero sense:
1) We first meet him and he's on the front lines.
2) Despite what is presumably pretty intensive training/brainwashing to cope with being a Stormtrooper, he gets ill and questions everything.
3) He doesn't simply decide to go AWOL,no sir. Mister Man over here decides to break out a complete stranger who, for all he knows, is a murderer, war criminal, space child diddler, ect., steal a ship, then kill a bunch of his own former soldiers! Wasn't the sight of seeing someone he knew die what compelled him to leave the First Order in the beginning?
4)By the way, Finn was basically a space janitor on the Death Star planet. Oh,nowyou tell us this, and for a stupid joke no less.
Here's another strange detail that sticks out - If Finn was a Stormtrooper, then why didn't they have him stick with is English accent? While not all Stormtrooper had English accents, it would have (1) made him fit in as a believable Stormtrooper and (2) make him stand out from the rest of the rebels who would have another reason to sort of distrust him, creating tension and giving him motivation to prove himself.
On the flip side, Reydoeshave an English accent, despite growing up on some backwater sand planet. Guess who also grew up on a backwater sand planet and had a more American/"folksy" accent compared to the posh Imperials? Luke. It would have made a bit of sense for her to talk like she was raised by backwater aliens instead of someone like the bloke Vader choked out in A New Hope.
- The other guy, umm... Poe: Yeah, y'know this guy was supposed todieearly in the first movie? They just liked him enough to rewrite his role to be a main cast member instead of killing him off. Because JJ Abrams =/= planning
- Hamsterball:Merchandising!Pretty much JJ trying to out-jump the shark-jump Lucas took with R2-D2 in the prequels.
- Chumba Wumba: Also known as Rose. Okay, this wasdefinitelya hire for (1) the Chinese market and (2) fat feminists. Then throw in a side plot that sounds like it was made to pander to PETA, and you have a waste of time and energy in a middle child of a trilogy already failing to get anywhere.
- Purple Haired Lady: My rule of thumb is that anyone with purple hair is not worth giving an ounce of respect. If a woman has to go so far as to die her hair to look like Barney the Dinosaur's taint, then she's compensating for someseriousschit.
- Han Solo: Dead. Unless you want to count some rando they pulled to try and live up to being a young Harrison Ford.
- Luke Skywalker: Also dead, because Rian Johnson was apparently abused as a child and had to murder Star Wars in every facet.
- Leia: Alsodead... so, having not seen TLJ, I have no bloody clue what the situation is here. Carrie Fisher isactuallydead, but Rian Johnson apparently decided to kill off the character whose actor is still alive.
The Villains:
- Kylo Ren: First problem right here... Kylo --> Kyle. Motherf**ker's name is a letter off fromKyle. Darth Vader's biggest fanboy is some punkass emo kid named f**kingKyle. And that isn't even touching on his complete lack of backstory, completely rushed character development (why does he want to kill his father again? He doesn't even really know him, he doesn't have any reason to be angry at him to "feed his hate" or whatever as Snoke tries to convince him), or the fact that he's a petulant, whiny b*tch in the same vein as Anakin was in the prequels - because that worked outsowell.
- General Hux: How in the crikey f**k are we supposed to take this ginger twat seriously?

Answer: you can't. A small child couldn't be intimidated by this pillock. It doesn't help that once you've seen Ex Machina, he's forever the loser who got seduced and friend-zoned todeathby a sex robot.
- Captain Phasma: I'm convinced that they hired the actress who played Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones literally just so they could namedrop her to givesomecred to the movies because they do jackschit with her.
- Snoke: Why is this supposedly powerful, ominous puppeteer dressed like one of the Golden Girls? He's even wearing a bathroom for cripes sake.
And those are just the characters - the major events are less interesting than the prequels and lack the personal investment of the original movies. In fact, these being set after the originals leaves this strange sense of a missing prequel to this supposed sequel trilogy. The originals started off with the basics and the hero's journey, so very little build-up is really needed to hook the viewer, while keeping the focus narrow enough to follow the primary arc of Luke, which then evolves to encompass the greater narrative conflicts. TFA/TLJ havenoidea who or what to follow, the stakes aren't particularly high, so this could be three spin off movies and no one would be any wiser.
Who's Rey?Who cares.
Who's Snoke? He's dead.
Who's Kyle? He's an indecisive twat.
Will Finn do the thing? Why not.
Will Poe- Yup.
Will the [strike]Empire New Order be defeated? Probably, just fast forward to the end already.
TBH I'd have no problem if her parents were nobodies, but both Abrams AND Johnson have back themselves into a corner because they made her a Mary Sue.
If her parents are nobodies why the hell is she so powerful and perfect at every damn thing she tries? Even if the story is something cliche like she's Han and Leia's daughter (making her and kylo brother and sister) I would be satesfied with that because at least she would have at least a force sensitive parent that would give a smidgen of an explanation why she's practically a GOD.
oh and on another note. Just more proof Johnson is a phuckin' hack;
Agreed, and even that doesn't explain how becoming a deity skips a generation (or something).
I'm obviously not the Star Wars target demographic, but my own bias is that I would have preferred that they movedawayfrom the whole "Force" thing because it makes for such an easy cop-out and deus ex machina - both of which the new movies have only reinforced, especially through Rey.
People shooting at you? Deflect the shots right back, or now just freeze them mid-air.
Held prisoner? Jedi Mind-trick the captor and walk away.
Caught in the vacuum of space? Mary Poppins your way back to safety.
It would have been far more compelling to limit how powerful the force was instead of doubling down to throw in new special effects/tricks.
Anyway, it really is all a moot point because they wrote such a boring character. In their efforts to write a "strong, independent woman," they made an empty power fantasy who is all the less compelling for this direction. She's already mind-tricking people and fighting like a pro, Snoke's dead, Kyle's an arsehole, so whatelseis new?

Rian is too much of an intellectual to have directed a Star Wars film. There was the PERFECT opportunity to revisit what happened at the Jedi Temple, show Luke as a true master and give details into the training of a new generation of Jedi. The fall of Kylo Ren and his relationship with Luke is a MUCH more interesting story than any of the main plot. So why not give us that, as it reflects a similar parent/child arc as the original three movies?
Nope, we get 10 seconds of flashbacks into the second greatest tragedy of Luke's life, but f**k it, lets do a 25 minute casino scene where we talk about animal rights.
absolutely dropped the ball, there was so much potential

I absolutely do not consider any of the new movies Canon, but I can at least enjoy rogue 1.
Was star wars too important culturally? Did it need to be killed off? Because I don't see how you can fukk up something so thoroughly, and on such a grand scale, by accident.

Entire NYPD should go on strike. You'll see then how quickly the mayor changes his tone.

It's on netflix now, so I watched half of it. I knew it was going to be chit with the first scene. A single X wing fighter goes up, and does annoying cringe jokes, then single handedly destroys all of the cannons on the superdestroyer without any resistance from tie fighters or anything.

The only hope this franchise has now is to call Will Smith from Men in Black, and nebulize all of us so we forget TFA and TLJ were made, and remake both of them.
