The dates surrounding these "Walls of Jericho" are in utter disagreement with the timeline of the book of Joshua, and associated supposed conquest of Canaan.

Do you realize how many times the bible has been revised and rewritten? How we can't even decipher the original scripts because it's written in a dead language and we have to fill in gaps? Or how the council of Nicea heavily edited/changed what went into the bible to fit their needs?

There is certainly evidence of large humanoids in the past (giganthropithicus), which grew to 10' tall and 1200lbs. Outside of that, just think about this:
Concepts, customs and titles written in ancient documents, can easily walk into the land of idioms, that if you think about, are figurative qualities only better understood during the time of. I mean, if you talked to some englishman 300 years ago and say his idea sounds 'out in left field' he'd probably turn to his left and look for a field.
Compile this with our imperfect narrative in archaeology (oh it's far less the narrative teachers sell) and you have potential for quite a dogmatic view of history - with little room to digest exceptions that may in fact turn things upside down. AND... anyone who established any theories based on the false narrative, is gonna eat some crow. I dont think Man in general is that happy to be so humble, and rather hide the truth to protect their posterity. Consider Graham Hancock and the battles he's had with some of academia. Yea. Now consider the bias from the lands of middle eastern caliphates.
The real ambivalence I have from supposed Middle east authorities (consider Hawaas from Egypt) is that they have a super amount of bias/influence/politics around Jewish history. I reckon much of the middle east is this way. SO much so, I recall a documentary where some archaeologists only were able to make it to a site by making up some non religious reason visiting a tomb (may have been the documentary put on by James Cameron).
Much of history hinges upon someone else perceived dates and the honesty of the surrounding peoples. If one thing is off in the chain, it creates problems for a lot of things.

pretty darn amazing.
Oh and are you saying history books dont have typos or perpetuate false ideas. Because they do. I'd imagine a google search could probably show you that.

The issue isn't just the matter of one exception being the 'AHA, the whole thing is garbage' but the broader view of the bible. Is it a historical document? Yes it is. Can it be trusted. Not about 'trust' in that context - all historical documents are a matter of reference. Does it always match up with other records. No maybe not. Not the point. Can it be viewed as historically accurate? Sometimes? Is it as accurate as a textbook. lol. sometimes textbooks are biased, so you can't say that.
and lol @ wikipedia. That's a place to start. to get an idea where you should go to.
As far as their being a consensus on the more particular case of the captivity of the israelites:
There may be a majority of archaeologists that say that. I dont know. But as to the nature of the politics from the middle east, and the influence it has over archaeology, i'd be mighty skeptical of some of these assurances. Such reservation is deserved and not outlandish.
The way you think a majority is always correct - which you're kind of alluding to, is amazing. Your mixing the 'see bible is wrong here' with 'most of academia doesn't regard the bible at all because xyz didn't happen in the new kingdom'.
And your deviating/twisting from the idea that the bible isn't looked upon as a standard for historical reference for various periods... because there's ooogles of historical documents just floating around as THE authority?

I have to emphasize yet again....the (very questionable) historicity of the Exodus is justoneexample of countless historical inaccuracies to be found in the OT. No, the OT is not a very reliable collection of historical documents.

This is where the matter of special revelation is needed, as the explanation of natural laws isn't enough to really convince man of really anything ultimately worth doing. Nature may show us the repercussions of actions, but that's it. And nothing is off limits really - other than the repercussions.
If there is a divine being, it has to reveal certain qualities we may recognize as truly supreme - such as all knowing, all powerful etc. Also matters of justice and relationship. These are things philosophized to understand that if a divine being exists, it has to have consistency with these things. This understanding still isn't enough, as the relational aspect requires communication of some kind, and that's where the written word comes in to play. THe bible operates as a medium to understand these self evident qualities of a God that cares enough to perform things for humanity. But at the same time, he's not subject to our expectations. This special revelation he gives us, the Bible, is quite verifiable in many levels - history and philosophy. So its satisfying more so than just a cult like ' believe this because ' view.
Special revelation is way more coherent than the incoherent horror that materialism brings.

No, you dont go by consensus for truth...you go by evidence or lack thereof, and make judgments- if applicable- accordingly. And (surprise, surprise), the consensus among scholars just happens to align with the evidence we currently have regarding past events. Also to say..."all archaeology must be meaningless because......politics" is laughable, sorry.
I have to emphasize yet again....the (very questionable) historicity of the Exodus is justoneexample of countless historical inaccuracies to be found in the OT. No, the OT is not a very reliable collection of historical documents.

The fact of the matter is, the bible is a recording of places and people. There are places/kingdoms that exist we can confirm that exist in/out the bible (egypt for example). As to details of where/who these people were exactly, that's where the narrative tries to come in.
I'm not trying to debunk all of academia, only pointing out the issues around archaeology and middle eastern politics.

If you've been paying attention to archaeological developments whatsoever, you'd realize almost no historians/archaeologists take this story seriously.

That is, that if the bible is purely about the material aspect of humanity (just the cause and effect), and there be nothing supernatural (other than a perceived sense of it), then everything is subsequently bereft of any ultimate meaning, and thus the aforementioned logic that the bible is true, is ultimately nothing other than a weak/non argument against temporal satisfaction. That's a scary position to hold - for you and others around you - if you consider the logical conclusion.
This is where the matter of special revelation is needed, as the explanation of natural laws isn't enough to really convince man of really anything ultimately worth doing. Nature may show us the repercussions of actions, but that's it. And nothing is off limits really - other than the repercussions.

If someone is actually interested in historical or scientific fact, they dont begin from the premise "such and such document is true because it is revelation" and proceed from there. They dont argue "Bible is true, thus event X happened" (dogma). Instead, they examine the available evidence. And if you follow up on that Wikipedia article listed above, you will see much of the current state of evidence that (doesnt) exist for the exodus. I mean in terms of historical accuracy.....there are (many) passages in the Bible that literally contradict each other, down to particular items like numbers (one book gives X for a census, another book gives Y, etc). They cantbothbe right. That's the small stuff though....the bigger stuff like Creation chronology, the Flood, the Exodus, etc are the more obvious issues.
Regarding the point about Egypt.....that the Bible contains references to actual cultures like Egypt, thus it is to be trusted in historical matters....is a terrible argument. Homer's "Iliad" deals with Troy: this doesnt mean all the information contained within about the Trojan War, and the actions of the gods such as Zeus, Ares, Hades, Poseidon, are necessarily accurate. Movies such as the James Bond films or superhero flicks (Spiderman, Batman, X-Men, etc) are set in real cities and cultures such as modern day New York or London....this doesnt mean they are accurate historically. Surely anyone can set a story in a real-life environment, just as the Bible could be set in ancient Egypt. Whatever the case, I can see there is very little objectivism here, so again, there is no point continuing.
