For those of you that hate your 9-5 how much were you taking home per month? When you guys say 9-5 i'm assuming you mean weekends and all major holidays off.

Try working in a hospital where you're obligated to work 2 weekends per month, are "on-call" on your days off and can potentially get dragged in to work on Christmas/New Years/Easter etc). Also I work 12 hour shifts and i'm actually working the vast majority of that time. Sometimes I hardly get enough time for a break, but you guys are complaining about only having 5 hours of work in an 8 hour shift? Sounds like heaven to me. I'd easily get my 52 books read per year if I had 3 hours of free time at work. Most of you sound like you just don't want to work regardless of what the job is.

Post #59 hinted at this, but I think what he's saying is that some people itt think their life sucks because there are people that live better lives than them. They need to realize that instagram sloots and 16 year old heirs to multimillion dollar companies traveling the world with daddy's credit cards is not the norm, and everything outside of nepotism, breaking the law on multiple counts or literally winning the lottery, you'll most likely never live that lifestyle.

It's still a very new concept outside of the USA. It was based on crash-course medical knowledge taught to WW2 MDs and England has successfully adopted it.

Apparently they tried getting a PA program started over there in 2011 but they did not integrate well and most of the students ended up unemployed. The shortage of physicians in the US is creating some interesting outcomes like free medical school. There's at least 1 bridge program for PAs to become doctors in America (a doctor of osteopathic medicine) and hopefully the shortage will create a demand for additional bridge programs. Would be a cool option if I hit a growth plateau.

Otherwise, I'll be just fine earning 150-200k+ assisting in Orthopedic surgery. As cool as being an MD would be - I don't want to wait until I'm 42 before I start making the real money, and being massively stressed till then. I have too many other life goals, you're right about there being more to life than work.

Best of luck with dental school boyo.

I will probably never had kids. I hung out with my friend who own their own businesses (so no maternity/paternity leave) and we had the HARDEST time finding a kid-friendly restaurant in Seattle. We have weird liquor license laws, so almost ALL the restaurants with a full bar does not allow kids to eat. Imagine if we had a baby, I'd probably starve to death or eat really crappy food. #firstworldproblems

I wish I had seen this thread earlier - Want the truth? You guys whining about 9-5 are LAZY.

C'mon guys, this is supposed to be a BodyBuilding forum where people have serious drive, dedication and discipline, this needs to also be applied to professional life as well.

You guys have to get motivated, just from the comments in this thread is very clear those of you whining about your 9-5jobs aren't taking them seriously, work for crappy companies, don't actually do much work (if any) in a given day, think you're being slick by hiding doing the bare minimum, then complain you aren't being compensated properly, lol.

Here's the reality - you aren't owed a nice cushy 9-5, and honestly you don't WANT ONE. If you find yourself in a "cushy" 9-5 where not much is expected of you, everyday is the same, you could do your job in your sleep, and you are surrounded by other people who are going absolutely nowhere in life, yeah, I could see how that could be depressing, but that's not what you are supposed to be doing!

The MAJORITY of jobs in corporate America are a joke, they are completely unnecessary, they people doing them are morons, and the morons that are doing them aren't even working very hard at it.

In contrast, if you are reading this thread, you are very likely to be smarter than the majority of the population - so what is your excuse?? Get off your butt, get involved in a real field of study / disipline / bring something VALUABLE to the table.

In the meantime, don't quit your job, shake **** up! Take on more work, learn new things, PUSH YOURSELF, learn other peoples jobs and do them better, tell your manager you want more "ownership" over projects and you want a more active role - don't give them the usual Millennial nonsense of "Oh I need to FEEL fulfilled in my work" nobody gives a crap about your FEELINGS, especially your manager, they WILL take you seriously when you demonstrate through ACTIONS that you are serious, get into work early, stay late, streamline your work and make it more efficient instead of purposefully making it take longer than it really does to seem like you are actually working....you aren't fooling anybody.

While you are doing this look for other jobs, get into your field of expertise, if you don't have a field of expertise you can't complain, why should anybody pay you or treat you any differently than Sally who also thinks she's "sooooo undervalued" because she has awesome MS Word skills and understands "technology" like social media.
Apply to the top companies in those fields, reach out to people on LinkedIN who have those jobs and ask where they got started (People like answering questions about themselves) look at their work history to see if they joined a top-tier company off the bat (unlikely) or if they worked their way into it.

I see this chit everyday and it makes me so angry - I work with tons of imported H1B Indians who have a lower level of technical skill than Americans....so how are they getting these 6-figure jobs and top companies? They found holes in the system and they lie, cheat, and steal their way into jobs - they get an undergrad degree from a joke school in India, then they ALL xfer to the same handful of Universities in the US and get their "Masters" degree. Then they network like crazy with all of their Indian relatives and find Indian hiring managers to at least get them started with some contract work....in the meantime they keep networking and they eventually will get an interview at a big name company, they talk to their buddies and get trained on how to fake their way through the interviews, they all give the same answers and have the same coaching. They'll get rejected a lot, but they will eventually squeeze their way through a crack - in their culture all that matters is they work for XXX company and make XXX money.
The point is Americans are not NEARLY as hungry or ruthless about getting their foot in the door, nobody owes you anything, nobody will give you anything, you have to put yourself out there time and time again and TAKE it.

You guys talking about 9-5 drudgery, no wonder you are where you are......there is no such thing as an 8 hour workday....whining about not feeling fulfilled and other nonsense - be real, you guys that don't live in a major city, don't work hard, leave work early, have a 15minutes commute, and then waste time for 5-6hours fapping, playing video games, or other equally stupid crap.

The professional world is a competition, and people like me are running circles around you guys that think you are being slick by doing as little work as you possibly can.

There are winners and losers in life - and the dudes in this thread whining about the 9-5 grind are on the loser side.

The reason I get heated about this is because I know the mentality! You guys are being lazy and then whining about doing stupid unimportant work at an unimportant company while not being CEO10k/day....but you just can't understand why.

YOU CAN DO BETTER AND ARE CAPABLE OF MORE! STOP BEING LAZY AND COMFORTABLE - GET UNCOMFORTABLE! NO GAINZ BEING COMFORTABLE

I think the biggest problem is how previous generations have shaped the typical "work day". These are people that grew up with the mentality that it is actually okay just to do something for the sake of doing something, even when it provides no real value. Older generations are really good at coping and not trying to fix the actual issue at hand.
Good things take time.

I totally disagree with that- but it also depends what you mean by "previous generations". In my view they were much more no-nonsense, no political correctness, just got things done.
Now there are entire industries that provide no value - HR comes to mind, it's just an insurance policy so the company won't get sued.
Entire industries created due to a million tiny regulations a company has to meet just to build anything, soil samples, environmental impact study, zoning....etc.

This is besides the point anyway - you can't control this stuff, just put your head down, and work harder than everybody else, things magically take care of themselves when you do that.

Maybe children makes your 9-5 purposeful? Right now you work get money, blow it on stupid vapid chit - rinse and repeat.

When you have children you work for THEM. All your money goes to them making your work somewhat purposeful because it contributes to your childs well being.

and THAT's the way you cope with 9-5 dear folks

corporate wageCUCK CEO enforcer detected.

lemme guess, you can only give out 2% inflation adjusted raises this year so you get 5mil more stock options. don't worry, if the company crashes you still get your full severance and you just go on to the next fortune 500 company in your little millionaire boys club group that meets every other week at the fancy laddy laddy country club backroom smoking cigars in suits with your elbow patches and just switch spots with the CEO cuckenforcer of another company.

lemme, ur the kind of guy who decides to take away the free afternoon cookies from the work galley because your CFO calculated that it will save the company 10,000,000 over 25 years, even though you removed a huge inexpensive perk for all of your employees becuase of MUHHHH PROFFFIITTSSSSSS..lemme guess, those SHAREHOLDERS hold you hostage by your ANGUS, depending you meet aggresive revenue projections YEAR OVER YEAR (or YOY, for you corporate buzzword cucks).

The problem for me is not 9-5.
The problem for me is when you hate what you do in these hours.
Often its also not about the work but the ****ty management or people you work with.
Work can often be useless or dumb, but if you have a great team of people, anything can be fun.

Simply put, spending most of your life doing something you hate going to, isnt worth it.

Why are you so angry? I'm legitimately asking....tell me about your career, what is your field of expertise and where are you in relation to the top of that field?

I'm definitely not CEO enforcer lol, I'm an engineer worker-bee at a tech company man, but lets talk about raises since you brought them up. The mentality you are viewing raises with is outdated, as I said in my initial (albeit long) comment you are NOT owed a raise, I don't care if it's 10%, 5%, 2% inflation raise, or 0%, that's an attitude of entitlement from the 1950's when you'd work for 1 company for 30-40years and they had a legitimate interest in keeping you happy, giving you raises, promotions, and keeping you healthy - that world doesn't exist anymore, you are competing with a global market now - if you want a raise you have to bring value to the company, right?

If you have worked at your company, showed through your actions that you are dedicated, continually growing and learning, and pushing yourself you will very likely see yearly raises. If you don't, then it is up to YOU to speak with your manager, explain the value you are brining and discuss compensation, if your manager makes it clear he either disagrees, or doesn't have budget to increase your pay, it then becomes YOUR responsibility to shop your skills / experience / knowledge on the open market and see if there are any other employers that are willing to pay more than your current company for your skill set - quite simple isn't it?

So you have the choice to sit still and whine to your boss and the internet about how you are "totally" worth more than you get paid, or you can get out of your comfort zone and deal with the annoyance of searching for jobs, networking, interviewing, etc if you reasonably believe you are paid below market for your skills.

It's almost as if.....you are responsible for your own path in life? As if you live in a free country with tremendous opportunities? That's pretty amazing and exciting when you think about it...

Simply put, spending most of your life doing something you hate going to, isnt worth it.
I agree, so shake up the can. Get out there!

If you have skills that are marketable an amazing thing happens, companies seek YOU out. Then when you go interview, you are interviewing THEM more than they are interviewing you. You can ask them all kinds of questions about their management philosophy, do they usually promote from within or hire outside, do they have high turnover, do they ever do fun team building exercises, trips, contests? Why would *I* (with all my valuable skills) want to work for THEM?

You need this mindset, not as some fake "game" like a PUA for women, but because you can back it up....

Holy crap dude. Reps for life. Most Americans are lazy as fuk because they were born with opportunity, millennials are even worse. Doesn't bother me though, I like standing out in my generation. It's almost too easy to work harder than most of them.

When you have children you work for THEM. All your money goes to them making your work somewhat purposeful because it contributes to your childs well being.

and THAT's the way you cope with 9-5 dear folks
Not trying to be a jerk but this is some seriously terrible advice. DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN BECAUSE YOU THINK IT WILL FIX ANYTHING IN YOUR LIFE. You need to have all your **** together before you start adding lives to this planet. If you have problems or issues before having children, those issues will still be present but magnified after the children have arrived.

DO NOT COPE, live life. Find an answer, fix the problem. Don't be a bitch like previous generations and cope with life and lie to yourself. be true to yourself. You can have a better life than your current situation but you gotta push through some seriously tough ****. DON'T. BE. A. BITCH.
Good things take time.

I'm going to take off...but thanks for the reps guys.

This subject rustles my jimmies - it drives me crazy seeing these younger guys don't fight to get to the top....and I'm not just blowing smoke, if you are on this forum, you are already ahead of 95% of people, there really isn't THAT much that separates the top 1% from the top 20%.

Think about it, if you just went a little extra step every day - instead of cutting this corner or that corner, working a little harder, being a little more motivated, that could be the difference between being a manager for 20 years with a higher income for 20 years with more money to invest for 20 years.......versus.......a low level employee just doing enough to get by for 20 years.

Was the amount of effort required to have an exponentially better life REALLY that much to ask....was it REALLY that hard?

We all know the answer.

worked 9-5 for almost 2 years after college and couldn't take it anymore. i felt like a piece of my soul was getting sucked out every day at work.

now i work as a partner at a startup of sorts, and i absolutely love it. i make a lot less money (for now) but we're growing fast and it's really exciting.

of course, i work way more than 40 hours a week now but i truly enjoy it.

I do what you described but life is not a simple function of effort put in and a proportional output. You dont always get what you deserve.

I think it's more about spending the vast majority of your time doing chit for someone else. 9-5 isn't really 9-5. You're prob awake at 7 to be in by 9 and don't get home until 6- 6:30. Then you have other **** to do like clean/cook/run errands. You just become a task robot with like 1 hour a day to yourself after you're exhausted. Humans would be much more productive working 20 hours a week.

I'm no longer a slave and my life has drastically increased in happiness

There's actually quite a few people who generate enormous sums of wealth by living below their means and investing all of their money. Most retards carelessly spend their hard earned money on complete crap.
