Shawn came in so balanced and proportioned I don't think anyone aside from Phil's friends/family are upset with this one. Perhaps Mr O is taking a turn back towards aesthetics as opposed to mass monsters.

Phil looked destroyed by the decision. Rhoden 100% deserved this win. Amazing someone at 270 pounds can look that well balanced and aesthetic

This. Prejudging - Rhoden had it for sure. And then finally, Phil's heavy breathing, the gut control etc. Phil - I think it was about conditioning and the midsection, not that Phil had no advantages over Rhoden.

I am also not bothered, at all, by Buendia not winning Physique.

Men's physique is such a better representation for the sport.

Swear to god - modern bodybuilding has such a small following.

Biggest problem is Phil Heath is considered aesthetic - he is literally the definition of unbalanced.

Looks like Buendia did too. I can understand why phil would retire - he looked worse now than he did in 2016, and he can't seem to get the gut conditioning etc to compete. But of course he still has some amazing attributes.

This has been done to death - and you're mistaken. If you're talking about 'instagram', fine, but people go to the shows to see the big guns, hence the payouts. Buendia tried to argue this point too as if physique and bikini are 'saving' bodybuilding but the numbers just don't show it.

And about Heath and aesthetics...well, this has changed over time, and I'm still a 'proportion' guy over 'size', hence why I've never been on the Ramy train.

I would say the link between show attendance and prize money is weak at best - see tv money vs attendance money in any of the major sports.

I genuinely think supp companies are starting to see the light - Phil is the last of the mass monsters to be given a center stage - its not just social media, bodybuilding has had plenty of different stars in the past, big, small and aesthetic - the problem is to win the open category, big is criteria to win.

the 202 category is better than the open.

Say what you want - bodybuilding has been dying for years, the fact the olympia makes more money is a by-product from the general expansion in the supplement market - zyzz would have a bigger following than Heath if he was alive.

Don't know how true, but maybe not a terrible idea.

'Supplementing' the way these guys do for well over a decade doesn't often lead to a long life.

Bodybuilding is the pinnacle for people that are actually involved in the sport. Men's physique is more appealing to people that either don't lift much or are DYEL status.

I disagree with you about it having a small following. Maybe if you compare it to football or something like that. But there are a fukk-load of fans around the globe that follow modern BBing. Its bigger then its ever been and IMO its only going to continue to get larger.

Shawn Rhoden is legitimately aesthetic. And I've always like Dexter Jackson's physique as well. Even on stage next to guys that are a lot bigger his balance and symmetry is on point. I think we are going to see a move away from the muscle freak-show where its all about size and a lean back towards aesthetics/balance. Its a new era assuming Shawn can retain for a couple more years.
