The ironic thing about poverty in US is that people who are poor tend to be overweight/obese. You don't find that relationship anywhere else in the world ( at least not in other countries where poverty is rampant).

Ah no! Then we all, except those in charge, will be poor and miserable.

Because junk food is cheap. A 2000 calorie bag of donuts is $1, an ounce of basil is $2.75.

A. Apply for the job, as Walmart only accepts online applications.
B. Get a call for an interview, as I doubt Walmart or anyone is sending out letters to schedule interviews.
C. Drive to the Walmart, as like I said, there's no public transportation.

The education system has failed you.
You've clearly never been to Williston ND. You could bicycle across that town in a few minutes. The reason the McDonalds were paying $15/hour was because it was/is an oilfield boom town. What does that mean? Anyone that can tie their own shoes could make $100K/year. Last i heard they were paying people $30-40/hr just to change tires on trucks.

A) You can get internet access anywhere for free these days almost anywhere in the USA
B) You can get a $15 phone from Walmart and use google voice for free
C) Walk/bike

I remember having a long conversation with a black dude once on and oilfield site. He said he told all his friends about how easy it was to get a job for a frac company and that they'd all make easy 100K/year. He said none of them wanted to get out of their bubble where they grew up and made all kinds of excuses about getting dirty/weather/location. Yet, they would constantly whine about being broke. In all fairness, that's the mindset of a lot of poor & victimhood mentality people of any ethnicity. I've exhibited that myself in that i refused to travel to some of the utmost chitholes (like India) for oilfield work. Meanwhile, the Chinese (actual Chinese citizens) guys we had (super hard workers) traveled anywhere and everywhere & busted their arse all the time.

So ya... most people that whine about not making money simply aren't trying hard enough. This is absolutely the case for anyone living in the USA. Chit... you could make a living dumpster diving and reselling stuff on ebay/craigslist.

This. Another example of people with little money not knowing how to spend it. I could make a weeks supply of healthy shakes for the cost of 1 take away session. You can't make lazy people active if they don't choose to be, therefore not everyone deserves success or a comfortable lifestyle.

I didn't say any of this wasn't true, my point is, internet is a necessity, and so is a phone, IDK about anywhere in ND, but a quick Google maps search confirmed my suspicion, there's no public transportation. Let's not even get started on the fact that you actually need money to relocate.

Scurvy isn't cheap, all that junk food is fortified, rice and raw oats are not. It's not as simple as that.

you literally have to choose to be poor to be poor in America

50% of poverty would be eliminated by people getting off their asses
and the other 50% by relocating

If you live in the United States of America you should not be poor because you have EVERY single opportunity to become a success. There are no if, ands, or buts. Oh well, not my fault if you are a loser who gives up.

nope, not true at all. you can have someone be rich without someone being poor in return. see: every tech millionaire. they became rich through providing new technology, not robbing others.

but vanessa and her ilk need to be stopped. she should not have gotten to 3 kids on 10/hr and being single.
where is/are the dudes who impregnated her? why arent they paying?

i say 1 hour a month in hs, we show kids how they will ruin lives if theyre having kids out of wedlock with no means of supporting them.

i realize shyt happens, but this is an epidemic.

this is the dumbest logic ever.

Do you make everything yourself? Do you grow your own food? Build your own house? Create your own electricity?
Do you have a trade deficit with the grocery store? With the power company?

Yeah? It's the dumbest? How about that time when you didn't relate any of the random statements you made with the quote you were rebutting?

I'd answer your questions but they're largely irrelevant. But yeah, I did build my own house. I have worked on a farm. I do have local electricity.

However, what's different between you and I is that I understandscalewhich actually perfectly ties back into the quote you made of my statement.

Son, I could live off $15 for a week if we're talking strictly 2k calories a day of junk food. How are you cooking this chicken, getting to the store, seasoning? That chicken needs refrigeration too. Having actually been poor, I can tell you, if poor people could eat chicken breast everyday, they wouldn't be eating easy mac and ramen noodles 3 times a day. Don't believe me, try it for a week. Go out with $50, and see what you can cook and how many times, don't use any seasonings you already have either, poor people can't afford saffron.

Also, a pound of chicken breast costs $3 where I live, and that's cheap.

You really don't understand anything at all. The point that you think those statements are random, demonstrates your knowledge.

You are not actively doing every single task at the same time. You are not producing your own electricity. Someone else is producing that "local" electricity. And you are trading with them. That is the point.

Are you tallying your trade deficit with Ford? With McDonalds?

Should every single state produce everything themselves? Should the supply chain for every single corporation be limited to the town they are headquartered in ? Should they be only be allowed to operate and sell to customers in their own state? or is their county? Or city?

Are you tallying your trade deficit with Ford? With McDonalds?

Should every single state produce everything themselves? Should the supply chain for every single corporation be limited to the town they are headquartered in ? Should they be only be allowed to operate and sell to customers in their own state? or is their county? Or city?

Ah I see you are 100% a troll. Borders serve no economic purpose in your mind. This is worse than I originally thought.

The fact of the matter is that you clearly did not nor do you understand the role scale plays in economics. You think the national level of regulation is the same as all others.

Have fun being that retarded in life. Just know that you'd find sustaining yourself in any economic system challenging.

I used to work at my school's chemistry department and had office hours for organic chemistry help - I had a huge amount of Syrian and Iraqi students that had come over with their families with absolutely nothing, and they absolutely work their asses off to make it when they have every reason to complain about how hard life is. Quite a few of them have now made it into medical or pharmacy schools and are crushing it. The best part is they LOVE America and constantly talk about how grateful and lucky they are to be where they are.

Then you've got people like the one in the OP...

All about that. Honestly don't know how anyone could logically argue against it from a saving money stand point.

Well you started off well. Yes, we don't all have equal abilities. And I wouldn't argue that we should all have equal outcomes.

Many people are in a bad situation because they made bad choices. Can you say that they are completely responsible for those bad choices and that they weren't at least influenced by their upbringing, physical condition, or mental issues?

And some people were trying to do everything right; or at least as right as they were capable of. People still get wiped out by major medical problems, being divorced/widowed, loss of a business or job. Stuff happens.

The lady in the article definitely brought a lot of her difficulties on herself. But her children are affected too. And if she didn't have children and was working full time are we going to pretend that $1600 a month is making it?

I don't think that you can fix a problem by just throwing money at it. Doesn't mean that there isn't a problem or that the wage scale isn't out of whack.
