Take home for 100k is more like 4000 a month if you save anything. Taxes are real.

so off base it's not even funny. To be in the top 15% of earners in America, you need only make 62.5K salary. Upper middle class is typically seen as a household income over 125-135K.....

300K is almost not even upper middle class, that is wealthy.

Not sure if srs, my takehome is just over $4K a month, and my base salary is 70K. And that's with the maximum matched contribution into my 401k and then a little.

Not really mind blowing considering you need to provide you last paystub (100k minimum) to register for a misc account.

I should be more specific. I also came from a situation like that so I get what you mean. Growing up poor had hand me downs, didn't get a lot of new stuff, lived very simply. Was raised by someone on like 20k/yr, now doing well and making more than anyone in the family ever has.

So to be more specific it can be life changing in the sense of security/comfort, but not to the extent that some people imagine. Some people on a lower income think crossing the 6 figure mark will mean they can live a completely different lifestyle full of luxuries and all that bs. It's true it can eliminate financial stress if you are good with money, but it's also true that you can live paycheck to paycheck. You aren't gonna be living the high life on 100k, but you can live comfortably.

I donโ€™t know why people are failing to grasp this point.

Here in the UK, if you live in London and on the UK median salary itโ€™s like the first half the movie The Pursuit of Happiness, hence wages for nearly everything are higher there. But if you earn it in Liverpool or Newcastle or wherever you probably have a decent standard of living.

So who is the winner? The person in London earning just over that who is living pay day to pay day or the person in the other place earning slightly under but who owns their house, has money to save and goes on holidays every year?

In America, if youโ€™re in Houston earning x amount, youโ€™ve got a professional job and living in a great neighbourhood. If you earn that in NYC or San Francisco youre probably a barman or something living in a shoe lol

Shy of ~140k/yr in DFW metroplex (depends on company bonus amount).
I'm comfortable but not rich by any means. First job out of college as an entry level developer @21 netted me a whopping 46k/yr. TFW paid more in taxes last year than my parents brought in while growin up.

Hell no, my employer matches 100% of the first 4% then 50% of the next 2%. I contribute 7% of my salary and get 12% which is $8,500/year. I have better things to do with my money than save for retirement, for now.

I supposed if you contribute max to your 401K at 100K salary your takehome will be more like 4-4.5K per month. I also don't pay for health insurance, so there's that.

People lie like crazy about their income on here. You can see salaries getting higher and higher in threads because people are insecure about what they make and once someone says they make a lot, then the next person will bump up their salary after.

Some people do make good money on here though.
