Are you sure they are fun to drive? They seem rather uncomfortable to sit in.

Don't get me wrong. If someone offered me one for cheaper than a normal car, I'd take it. But, to me, its utility is similar to that of a diamond ring or a rolex. I have no use for it. It's mainly for show.

Some of these cars cost more than small planes. You could build your own plane and fly around. Would probably be a lot more exciting tbh...at least for me.

Of course. In all honesty if I had expendable cash my next car will be the M5 competition, because I want a family and I was told never put a baby car seat in the front seat.

I decided that owning cars like these wasn't for me when I discovered the purchase/title/insurance costs were just the beginning. The maintenance costs on these things are insane. $30K engine overhauls, $4K oil changes, $20K for tires, etc. Doing all of the required maintenance at the required intervals is expensive. On top of that, replacing things that break out of warranty is insane. A $250K car isn't really a $250K car if you have to plunk $40K into it every year in maintenance.

They're really toys more so than cars.

20k for tires, 4K oil changes and 30k engine over hauls are not the norm.

I was just pulling illustrative numbers out of thin air, but here's why they aren't crazy numbers:

An oil change on a Porsche Carrera GT is $3K. Four new tires for a Lamborghini LM002 is $20K. Overhauling a Ferrari engine for just $30K would be considered a bargain. Even the old 308's cost more than $20K for a rebuild.

The monster in the closet are maintenance costs (both scheduled and unexpected).

Carrera GT oil changes aren't 3k. More like half that. We had one in town for a long time. The guy practically used it as a DD and I spoke with him a bunch.

The tires your referring to on the LM are the original tires that basically aren't made anymore...Ive seen guys looking for them, but 20k is way beyond what Ive ever seen anyone ask.

Complete engine overhauls are very rare for newer cars and are indicative of massive engine failure. I think what your referring to is restorations on classic cars...older diablos, testarossas, 308s, etc. The newer cars (late 90s and up) rarely need full blown overhauls...

Regardless, are these the cars your actually shopping for? CGTs, Lm002s?

The average guy that gets into an exotic starts with something like a Ferrari 360, 430, 458, gallardo, r8, etc....these are mass produced cars that generally run fairly well.

I agree parts and labor are way more expensive than lets say a corvette or honda, but your citing the extreme examples. On the above listed Id say maybe 3k/yr on maintenance if you want Ferrari/Audi/Lambo to do everything for you.

just LOL at the GT4Lusso and the california especially...garbage. Couldnt stop laughing when i saw on in a parking lot and had no idea it was a rari until i happened to walk right next to it
