I don't like overtime 40 hours a week is more than enough time spent working in 1 lifetime. Not to mention the time a lot of people lose commuting.

If anything everybody should be trying to work less.

Yep, now travel RNs can make a good deal more than $100k. As you noted, a great way to build up a cash reserve prior to starting a family.

However, if I were a nurse, the first thing I'd do is start getting the experience needed for CRNA schools. Usually a couple of years of critical care or equivalent. CRNAs do ball making upwards of $200k.

24 year old Mechanical Engineer making roughly $120k. Normally I work 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but if I stay late, come in on a weekend, or work at home I don't get paid for it. However, I only need to do that when I have a deadline to hit and in this last year I came in on 3 saturdays, stayed late a few weeks (usually when the trains are fuk'd up). I guess it would come out to around $50-$55 an hour depending on what my workload looks like.

Are you in NYC? What industry are you in? I have a lot of ME's in my family and they usually start around $70k down here in Maryland. Which isn't exactly a low cost of living state.

ULTRA competitive now, My wife had a failed application last year for CRNA basically you need 5 years of critical care minimum. They don't count surgical care for some reason even though you're essentially shadowing anesthesia the whole time. Girl she was talking to that got in applied to 7 schools and had 5 years critical care experience and got accepted to 1. So if you want to go the CRNA route I would suggest doing critical care immediately after school get 5 years in and start applying. My wifes first job was in the TICU so she started critical care but didn't want to stay in that job partly due to the travel distance and wasn't thinking about CRNA at the time. She's going to try for NP instead much easier acceptance.

But yes CRNAs do command a good rate you're an actual provider at that point and not just staff.

MEs start at 65-70k in the southeast. Which is probably about like $150k in NYC lol.

In NYC and I'm in the construction industry. I asked for a high starting salary since I would have been able to make $100k a year straight out of college at another company. I started out at 80k and I'm 3 years in. I got promoted twice, which came with sizeable pay raises, and then at the end I get a bonus for working in NY which bumps up my pay to roughly 120k. My ultimate goal is to be in the exec level where they make 300k, 400k, and even 500k a year.

Ever think of moving into an analyst type position? It's still an office job, but a big more interesting I think.

On top, 8 hours of OT = 1k

Just got promoted effective January 1st.. making 90k base, 70k variable, for a total of $160k OTE.

Have lived in Boston steadily making promotions, and recently decided to move out to the mountain west. Was able to negotiate a 40k raise in tandem with moving to a much lower cost-of-living area, because a ton of people at my company quit and they basically did anything they could to make me stay.
