Join the local community and forums that pertain to your make, start asking question.

The car community is mostly pretty awesome, super friendly and helpful.

Not for the average Joe/Jane. If you run 10s in a cheap car you are doing better than 95% of your peers.

There is always something faster but for most people 10s is where you feel like you made it.

Stepping up to 9s is a whole different level, everyone there takes things very seriously, much more so than the average enthusiast would want to deal with.

No you don't get it... lol... I can bust out a string of 10.8-10.9's in my 2015 Mustang GT which is basically stock with a tune and a 150 shot. My wife drives that car and can pop it in drive and hit the button... 10's really aren't $hit down here. I am not trying to be a dick by any means but the words "fast" & "10's" haven't been said together since 2002. I am working on 9's in my 2013 this year but it has a man pedal and a bit more a chore

Most of these car mods are sloppy micky mouse catchet jobs on rusty old beaters. Typically the project of some boy-racer hoon. When I used to have my rusty old Buick, every now and then some manlet driving a little civic or jetta with a fart cannon making all sort of noise at the red light, I liked stepping on the gas a little bit and completely overtaking this jackass. I agree, its a total waste of money. Pure douchebaggery. I kind of look down on muscle car drivers as well. Some of us have actual muscles and don't need to compensate.

You are talking about people that are into speed, not the broader community, which is what I am talking about.

The overwhelming majority of people have never even been in a car that can run the 1/4 in 10.5, let alone own one.

The majority of the car community does not even race at all, cruises and car shows is what most people do.

I dunno man, I saw this early 90's IROC Z28 for sale last week, mint condition.

Always thought it would be cool to do something with an older car that i liked.

And those people drive 10yo Toyota Camry's and don't give a fk , so do they even count in discussion such as this one? Because those people couldn't give less fks what something runs in the 1/4 mile so any time is irrelevant

This chit was in it's heyday here in the late 90s early 2000s. Cringe everywhere. The funniest is that these 90s horror shows are now coming to classic car meets lmao.

The sad part is that is that for a decade it has basically become impossible to buy cars like golf mk1 and mk2 gti that are unmolested.

If I'm buying a car to build, I'm not looking for resell value. It's something I will keep long-term. My track day CRX I had for 10 years. Was forced to get rid of it because of a move and nowhere to keep it. Wasn't street legal in CA. Didn't want to go through the pain in the as of selling it for little money so I just donated it. Got 10 years and 200k miles of fun from it. Well worth the investment.

Uh, no, our community has typical first tuners all the way up to cars in the 300K range.

Most people never touch the drag strip.

Seriously, are you even going to touch on the regulations required to be serious about the 1/4?

How many people want to add a safety cage to a daily driver?

Most guys in the community don't even own a helmet.

9k TT kit on an otherwise stock 18 or 19 GT can hit high 9s, usually on e85 tho. Although I'd not be happy with a stock coyote pushed that hard

low 10s on street tires and 93 is fine with me. My bro has swapped his whipple out for a single big turbo on his 18 in the quest for 8s but that gets to be crazy money at that point

So if you are set on "10's is the gold standard" and then come back to say

Most people never touch the drag strip

nobody wants to add a safety cage

don't even own a helmet

Then all they will do is bench race about what it runs and none of what you are saying even matters anyways. You are welcome to come on down to Houston and ill take whatever 10 second $hitbox you have to Gapplebee's and show you what fast is... until then... Good day Ma'am

You seem unusually upset about this. I don't know why you care about who does and does not push their car under 10 seconds.

Since you didn't want to address it I will tell them for you.

Most tracks require a safety cage @ 11 seconds and I think all of them do @ 10 or less.

This is a giant PITA and no one bothers unless they are serious about racing.

Almost no one is.

The closest most people ever get to this is something like doing a highway pull with a VBOX.

More than a few people here know why the bolded part is hilarious BTW.

10s feel stupid fast, its enough for just about everyone. My RS7 run low 11s and the NSX runs high 10s, this is more than enough to destroy virtually anything from a dead stop.

Yeah, even the fattest street tires won't hook worth chit even with the HP needed for low 10s, so it's a waste going for an 8 second car unless you plan on running 15" drag radials everywhere

Having 900+ HP seems like a huge waste for normal driving, and you risk blowing even your built motor, snapping halfshafts etc

I'm happy with mid 700s at the wheels for the occasional blast on the freeway when the cops arent around

lol same.

The auto version of my car has dipped into the 9's STOCK on drag radials lol.

But because i have the man pedal, i know 9's will be hard. That's why i don't drag race. I care about trap speed. And with my mods, i should be able to "trap" high 130s.

That's why i kill nearly anything around me. Except for that damn mclaren i raced. But i think the dude said it was modified. Not sure. BUt everything else, those cars took the L.
