In 1990 not one US state had an obesity rate above 15%. As of 2016....

I was immediately thinking economics. But if the trend picked up pre-2001., im not sure.
Later 2000's i would blame the recession and people seeking "cheap" food that was bad for them
Id need to do more research though

- fat acceptance
- general increase of activities that can be done inside
- decline in home meals due to increase of feminism
- decrease in physical education in schools
- ect
i can blame liberals directly for atleast 3 of those

Poverty is getting worse.
Poor people eat chittier and are more sedentary.
All they can really afford as a vice are garbage foods and sedentary habbits.

Computers and the food industry
300 kids in my graduating class (1993) and maybe 5-10 could've be considered Obese by today's standards. People also ate just as much junk food in 1990 as they do now. Whatever they're putting in the food now is worse than unhealthy. Starting late 90's/early 2000's there was something different about how the food tasted...Oreos, Mac N Cheese, Pizza, McD's, Doritos, Reeses all went from hnnngg to chit. Even elderly WW2 dudes were doubling in size and weight.

Besides im sure there are ways to do it. I have driven people (no, not an uber but in driving other employees) that use chit like "the dollar menu" and stuff like that
If i ever go there, dollar menu is not on my mind. But 3 bucks for 2 chicken sandwiches and something else might be hard to beat even at home
The problem would then be their macros with sodium being way upp on less nutritious chit. And then theyre probably still hungry and then eat even more chit

Thats a CHIT ton hypothyroid cases....
For real though...i do wonder about that. Since men are evolving with lower and lower t levels, are TSH levels lowering as well? My TSH levels plummeted at the same time my T levels did. But there are a thousand reasons to blame for this:
-Fast food companies having so much money and lobbying power
-Ignorance of basic nutrition; "Fat = bad" mentality
-Sedentary lifestyles; Gaming becoming so popular now that people can make millions off of it
-Foods being filled with so much synthetic chit (who knows the full effects on the endocrine system)
-Cant even attempt to pre-emptively educate fat people on nutrition or else its fat shaming

My theory is the lack of competitive environment is driving T levels down, you aren't allowed to be competitive in schools any more and the general lack of letting boys do what little boys do is stunting them permanently.

Lol at anyone blaming sh*t on anything other than people’s poor choices.
Yeah there is fat acceptance and video games and bad parents. Any maybe there isn’t good nutrition courses in school. But In this era with a gym on every corner and all of the worlds information at your fingertips with access to top notch nutrition information there is no excuse.
If you don’t want to be fat then you won’t be fat.

in case you missed this point let me say it againmy theoryis that schools have moved away from and even discourage competition which is detrimental to boys and beneficial to girls, this lack of competition growing up is not good for the development of boys. This is a testable theory but it would take a lifetime to study so chances of an extensive study being done on this isn't likely. The easiest way to test this would be to compare the test levels of kids that grew up playing sports and those that didn't but you couldn't really conclude anything from that other than there may be a correlation to playing sports and higher test but wouldn't be able to go as far as saying they could identify it being the cause
this cover it well enough?

Access to smartphones, computers became common, desk jobs became common, Netflix, Hulu, fast food businesses exploded, fat women socially castrated men who shamed them for being fat, indoor gadgets created more incentives to stay indoors instead of playing outside, and the list goes on...

Sugars, HFCS, the Government subsidizing trash foods (corn), the assbackwards food pyramid, demonizing fats, all these efforts by the Government to make people healthy did the exact opposite at every turn. People eat complete trash processed crap now, it's what most people eat entirely.
Go shopping, don't be a creeper (or much of one), but just look at people's shopping carts (God help you if you try this at Walmart). You can tell instantly why people are obese right then and there.
Entirely bullchit. People aren't eating more and moving less now when compared to 1950 or the 1990s. Fuk off with that, no offense. The pushed their food pyramid, they subsidized corn so now high fructose corn syrup is everywhere, they told us fats were causing heart attacks, they told us to eat majority breads and carbs -- and we got fat. We move now more than we did in the 1990s and people aren't simply eating more with bigger portions. What changes was WHAT we are now eating.

One thing's for sure, it's all external causes like the evil actions of government, corporations, scientists, etc.
Therefore, the answer can't be looking inward and taking personal responsibility, the solution must also be external.

also, I believe fast food and junk food corporations have scientifically mastered the ratios of carbs, fats, salts, and that laundry list of chemicals that you can't pronounce to make their products as addictive as possible.
After I have the rare breakfast at McDonalds while traveling or grab a pack of cookies on the go, I can feel my body craving more a while later. not the same with "normal" food. anyone else?

The problem boils down to Sucrose/sugar as much as anything. We shouldn't be eating it very much, we're eating tons of it.
Yes, calories matter, to a degree, but they are not this end-all-be-all people promote and think of them as. Don't tell me 1,000 calories from sugar is no different than 1,000 calories of steak or 1,000 calories from grass fed butter.
I tend to follow Dr. Jason Fung, which there are many detractors or nay-sayers there, your call. He's got many studies, human ones, that he cites.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
