Some people had a strong work ethic instilled in them as a child. Most people didn't. If you accept a job, you should do your best at it. Don't complain about the work, the pay or the benefits. You took the job. No one is making you stay. If you are not treated right, leave.

Come review time, it doesn't matter what you've done, what matters is what your boss feels you should have. Period.
You can bust your ass, go above and beyond all year long, one thing happens and that's all they focus on. That is the forefront of the review, not the standout sh** you've done. Nah, fukc that.
I understand why people do the bare minimum. Unless you're kissing ass, you're not going to see the raise you want or that promotion. Politics b, word up.

I agree that monkey branching will probably be the quickest route to increasing your salary but they take measures to discourage that as well such as increasing your vacation time with years of service. Once you've worked up to 4 or 5 weeks off per year it would be hard to swallow going back to 2 weeks. I guess the the idea is to never stay long enough to even get increased vacation time.

Because people have a twisted perspective of work in this country. We are trained from a young age to have a disciplined day-long schedule of chit we don't want to do and we develop a tendency to just want it to be over so we can go do things we actually want to do.
Brb go to school starting at 5 years old to learn chit at a much slower pace than we are capable of.... Do that for 12 years minimum for 5 days per week. Show up on time, sit down and pay attention to mostly mind numbing chit waiting for a bell to ring so that we can go to another room to sit down and listen to some more boring chit taught to us way too slowly. Maybe do 4-7 more years of that for a bachelor's and possibly masters.
Do you think most people go through that and magically see work as any different from school? Most people just continue on in work as they did in school.... Bored, unmotivated, disinterested, and just waiting for the day to end so they can go do things that interest them.

A lot of people are just lazy and think everything is going to be given to them. They lack any sort of work ethic and are afraid to get their hands dirty.
Your life will never be a straight path.”
“To not only take risks, but to be open to life. To accept new views and to be open to new opinions. While it may be frightening, it will also be rewarding. Because the chances you take… the people you meet… the people you love…the faith that you have—that’s what’s going to define your life.”

because most people live off the government..AND OR live with someone who helps to support them..AND OR..lives with other idiots and together they all just barely get by in life. There was a day in time when IF you were lazy and didnt work you starved to death, and most certainly didnt have luxuries like cellphones,wifi,tvs,videogames,etc.. Everyone stops supporting these f&* leaches they would either learn to work for a living OR die off..

Nobody is going to complain about someone who works consistently for 6-7 hours. But nobody wants to work with someone who does nothing all day.

Boy do I see a lot of negative attitudes. Let's see where that takes you in life.
Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

I work hard half the time, and smart the other half. Gone from 81k to 95k in 3 years idk.
Honestly what motivates me though is I'm passionate about what I do and seeing the outcome of my work satisfies the **** out of me. My boss keeps throwing money at me and has given me more and more freedom to groom my territory how I see fit and work the schedule I want. It's amazing.
Can't imagine being a cube monkey giving 0 fuarks and being a small cog in a nameless faceless corporate machine. No wonder people do the minimum, their efforts aren't appreciated. Soul crushing and meaningless.

This girl at my work got promoted twice in 13 months (back to back year end promotion), and it is seen as unfair around the office bc other people worked harder than her. But when I asked my coworkers if they’ve ever expressed to their managers that they’re looking for a promotion and here’s what they’re doing to get there? Answer across the board was no. Managers are 100% more likely to promote you if they think you’ll leave (and you’re a valued performer). Why would people who go above and beyond but staying silent praying someone will notice their work get any promotions? They’re already doing the job for less than the pay.
I also think it’s odd that if you ask around the office no one is willing to say they’re actively seeking to move up, it’s like they’re pre-emptively coping with the lack of a promotion because it’s less embarrassing if you didn’t get it bc you didn’t even try.

I'm not hating though. Companies (and when we say companies, we really mean the people in positions that can make or break you) can do what they want, and people can take what they take.
But never will I ever trick myself into believing what you just wrote.
