If you must go new, and your willing to do 2wd and single cab/extended cab instead of 4 door things get significantly cheaper. As mentioned previously end of the year sale (late December), buying a previous year model, truck month, and finding one with good rebate are all also key components.



Here's the deal. Between self employed people and contractors using trucks as a business write-off and tradies that rake in some serious cash and YOLO it up. Trucks are pricy commodities. Sometimes dealerships are trying to move inventory and do deals. But if you just randomly pop in looking for a truck they really don't negotiate that much. As that salesmen told you they can sell high-end trucks in the 80-100K+ range with no issue. Unless they are running a deal your most likely going to over-pay.

The used market here is another disaster unto itself if you're trying to buy a truck. Mostly "I know what I have" bros lol. It might be worth going somewhere else if I really get serious about it.

Bought a ram 1500 brand new in 2011. Prices have gone up nearly 50% since then. Not sure I'll ever be able to justify buying a new vehicle ever again.

Buy a 10 year old, low mileage truck. New trucks are trash...nothing but lifted sedans with a bed for "football dads" to park in their suburb driveways. I bought a 2005 2500HD single cab Silverado diesel back in 2013. That truck has retained most, if not all of its value because it was almost fully depreciated. Don't get caught up in the sissy boy luxury truck chit. Get a 10 year old reliable work horse.

Then they got popular, then they got more expensive. Basic supply and demand. Its not their fault idiots keep paying that much.

yea the new Rangers look sikkk, but a totally different beast than the old school ones. "Compact" seems to mean something very different these days

The truck market is ****ed, they have basically turned into oversized luxury vehicles with a bed. They are the vehicle to have for people who might use it for its utility one day. Your best bet on a decent truck is something 5+ years old. No way in hell Im paying 40k+ for a truck unless its a raptor or a denali desiel. Trucks used to be the affordable everyday vehicle for working people, now they have turned into ovepriced pavement queens that see asbsolutely no use.
