Funny you mention Django, because Will Smith turned it down. He also turned down Matrix. Probably a bunch of other great movies because they weren't "safe" enough or didn't pay him his usual ridiculous rates.

I think it happened around 2008. If you look at his IMDB profile, there is a 4 year gap between his films there. I can't remember, but his last big movie that time was Hancock. After that, he did a drama and disappeared. I also think that was around the time that there started to be a big shift in Hollywood where movies were driven by franchises rather than big stars. Twilight, Marvel, etc. With Will Smith being part of the 20 million actor club, it seems Hollywood made him one of the first victims of the new strategy.

When he finally returned a couple years later, he didn't exactly choose the best projects. Men In Black 3 didn't do well. And I think M. Night Shamalamadingdong's After Earth starring Will Smith was a big thorn in his career. Will Smith didn't really reclaim his blockbuster status after that. He's still doing well, but he's no longer that international super star. Plus, Jada Pinkett Smith admitted that she cucks him on a regular basis.

His last decent movie was in 2008. Gemini Man might be good or might suck hard. Remains to be seen.

But its hard to get over the fact that the dude is a literal cuckold who has allowed his flamboyant son all over the internet/media acting like a little fairy.
