Meh. I think it's worth it, even though the price hikes are disappointing. I don't have any kind of cable though, I just watch Netflix through my PS4. Decent enough selection of movies and shows for the price IMO.

Man idk 9 bucks a month for a chit ton of stuff to watch. Im not a fan of the netflix originals stuff, but i used to blow 100+ a month on chit cable that has the same alaska logging mountain man bullchit shows on all the time. I don't mind pissing away 9 bucks a month on entertainment. I don't really watch much tv anyways so i don't ever fear "running out" of chit to watch. I also pay for philo...17 bucks a month and its basically a streaming cable tv service. Also has on demand stuff.

There's a reason why the biggest YouTube channels are ones that show content specifically for kids. Theres more parents than ever and it's convenient for them to give their kids a phone or iPad and have them look at kiddy videos all day.

Disney+ is gonna be a godsend for parents especially since Disney owns a sizable chunk of hollywood. The content they have up will be insane for a platform that is just launching and Netflix is definitely chitting their pants. Trust me, Disney is gonna smash it out of the park, as much as I hate the fact that they own everything now.

Wife and I have already agreed that when we have kids we’re getting Disney+. Not that ours kids will be in front of a screen all day but when they want a movie, being able to instantly pull up the whole Disney collection is pretty killer. I can only imagine how many parents will think the same thing

I dropped Netflix a while back and haven't felt like I've missed a bloody thing. Worst case scenario, I could raise a black sail for a series, but I can't think of one that would be worth the bandwidth even between the time that has passed since I was subscribed.

Shows like Stranger Things will make massive headlines over views, but that's because it's like a drink of fresh water in the middle of a desert, and not even a whole bottle (8-ish episodes?), nor all that potable if you don't happen to like shows about kids or are swayed by overeliance on an 80s nostalgia wank.

Really, what began to wear on me alongside their diminishing library was how they would incessantly ram[i]their[/i]content in your face alongside obnoxious, ********ing previews (that are a waste of data for telling you fukk-all about whatever they're previewing). I actually began downvoting[i]everything[/i]that would pop up at the top of the interface just so I would never have to see another "Netflix Original" again in place of whatever I was watching previously, but it was becoming too much, while showing how pathetic Netflix's "algorithm" was, let alone their miserable original content.

And that's what is especially nuts: it's not even though Netflix has a[i]small[/i]library, but their reliance upon self-promotion and using a half-cocked algorithm to feed you the same handfuls of movies and shows across several categories. Netflix is so beholden to their own precious algorithm that they will happily cancel possible break out shows because another season would be too expensive, yet they'll happily fund damn near anything, throw handfuls of cash for mediocre stand-up specials, and pollute their own collection for the sake of quantity over quality.

*Oh, but somehow Orange is the New Black is[i]still[/i]getting new seasons, because apparently trashy prison bitches is worth pouring money into?

How many times can they raise prices, tell people that [x] Shows and [Y] Movies are leaving in exchange for some Redbox level Netflix Originals, and then raise prices[i]again[/i]because they want to "invest in more Netflix Originals" that no sane individual ever asked[i]more[/i]for to sift through? One of their last price increases was the straw that broke the camel's back for me, as I'll take a smaller library if it means them paying for decent content instead of trying to scrabble together their own by throwing sh*t at a wall to see if anything sticks.

The loss of that very type of content is going to hurt Netflix the most because they have abjectly failed at creating their[i]own[/i]The Office, Parks & Rec, Friends, ect., let alone an Always Sunny, The League, or other mature, rewatchable comedy shows. So with The Office now nearing its final days before being pulled and Friends also leaving, there is going to be a[i]lot[/i]of people staring blankly at the Netflix screen with[i]nothing[/i]to watch now that their go-to favorites are no more.

For a while, Netflix was comfortable with people aimlessly meandering through their catalogue with nothing to watch (freeing up their servers from actually doing anything) until eventually settling, but how many people are going to settle with[i]Netflix's[/i]shows versus simply switching to wherever those shows moved to? That was yet another reason I cut off Netflix; now I just turn on some relaxing music through the Youtube app, which doesn't cost a dime.

I don't even[i]like[/i]Disney, but the signs were there when Netflix was stepping back on the few Marvel shows it had knowing that they were in danger. I honestly feel like I'll get my popcorn eating moment just watching Netflix get devoured for failing to make content that can compete with the best of them, let alone[i]maintaining[/i]content that could at least keep people around.

I cancelled my account when they cancelled a really good show when it still had some time to tell a story. No reason was given other than they just didn't like the show, but viewership was high.

ITT people who don't understand how copyrights work. They can't just stream everything like some illegal pirate website can. They have to pay for rights to stream shows.

When they first started they were streaming and there was no competition so companies sold them tons of shows to stream for cheap.

Now those contracts are expiring and everyone else has a streaming service and are bidding on programming. Plus a lot of channels have their own streaming network and aren't even interested in selling stuff anymore (CBS, Disney(ABC, ESPN, Marvel)).

So they are trying to make up for all the content they are losing by making their own shows/movies. I agree a lot of it hasn't been very good. Overall 15 a month isn't much money and so its worth it to me, but just barely. Once the office goes away in a couple years to NBCs new streaming service I'll probably cancel unless they up their game considerably.
