How many years did it take to be an e6? 5-8ish?

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

After taxes
about $12k from my job (investment / strategy / market insight consulting)
about $4k regular consistent passive income in the form of rent from rental properties
and then anywhere between -$9k (worst month) to + $20k (best month) of gain in portolfio value on shares / managed funds / ETF's / Private equity.
My best month when all the stars have aligned and everythings gone well I've made $40k
Worst months just over $10
Age 42.

Curious what you young bros think you'd be happy with when you get older. Obviously everyone wants to be on the $30k/day CEO time, but being realistic what would make y'all happy and you'd define your career as being a success (from a monetary perspective anyway)?
When I was young I always thought anyone who made > $100k was rich and that was always my goal. I assume you boyos have higher goals now, $200k maybe?

I like this thread. Not everyone is claiming 200k year like they always do.

10k to 30k gross a month.
That may sound like a lot, but I have 23 electric, gas, water, sewer, trash, cable and internet bills to pay each month, in addition to my own house. Doing furnished short term rentals traveling refinery contractors.

8-12K gross depending on how motivated I am in a given month.
I'm a copywriter but I outsource everything now. Work 12-15 hours a week.
Just turned 29.

They've also cut pay across the board. This job paid $200k back in like '07-'10, unfortunately before I got on with them. I make $140k now.How do you go about getting such jobs in those locations? I'm in the construction field, might as well get paid to rot
They've also let the companies with all of the more varied jobs, construction workers, plumbers, food service, the people that run the gyms, ect, replace their American workers with Indians and Eastern Europeans that work for a fraction of the wages.
The first job I had in Iraq in 2006 was $80k/yr. That sounded good when I was 22 and didn't know anything about the work over here. Now I know I can make that in an oil field and be home 1/2 the time. I'd never come over here for pay that low, but the jobs that used to pay $80k are even lower, if they haven't been replaced by third country nationals.
We all claim the foreign earned income exclusion out here too though, which saves a lot of taxes. It's up to like $105k is exempt this year. So that does make some of the lower pay better than it would be at home.
If you really want to look into it, you can check out Professional Overseas Contractors, Dangerzone Jobs, or look up jobs on individual employer's websites. There are jobs all over the world, and there are still some $200k+ jobs out there. I'm switching companies in a few months because they have some room to advance. I met a guy when I was coming back over who was headed to Africa making $130k for 6 months. I don't know what he did though.
