With that said I hate tipping, but I understand it's something I'm signing up for if I go to a sit-down restaurant. Fast food restaurants are no different, except the fact you evade a tip, but are still charged 2-3x or more what the ingredients are really worth.

Following social norms is what separates us from animals in the jungle.
Or if you're too poor to pay a tip then just don't go to places where tipping is standard protocol and STFU about it.

I tip like 18-20%. I worked in this industry for like 9 years, and I can say that a lot of people I worked with are just super entitled. Not saying their service is bad, but like $50 on a $275 check is fine.
If I frequent a place, its like a rounded up 20% ($60 on 275)
Obviously great and poor service is different.
It is kinda fukked up that restaurants don't pay for their employees wages, but there are places that are starting to adopt no tip policies, and no one who works at a really good place would ever work there because they simply make way more than what a restaurant calls a "Livable Wage." So thats kinda fukked up too.
Barber gets a $5 from me - my London barber is 13 Pounds and my NYC Barber charges $22.

It's not fair to people who work minimum wage when the ******* servers get paid 50k a year when they bust their ass 10x harder

I mean here in Canada servers get min wage, which is $15 cad. So no thanks.
The old grandpa at walmart also gets minimum wage and nobody tips him.
I used to cook in a fast food restaurant when min wage was $10 and I got 10.
I also worked at a restaurant as a server for 2 months. I got min wage + tips which was nice but the work wasn't harder at all lol.
I don't know what's so different from them. But I'm sure if I was in the US, I'd tip cause they don't get paid minimum wage, which is understandable.
Edit: then again, I don't eat out much at all.

We go out to eat maybe 4-5× per month, and the extra expense (tip included) is well worth it to not have to deal with cooking/cleanup/etc when the wife and I just want a nice meal without the hassle.

Its the system we live in, and if you think there aren't people in offices who work even 20% as hard as waiters who make 2-10x the money, then you're insane. People not getting paid appropriately or more than they should is what America is about and you not tipping doesn't budge that fact in the slightest bit.
Your mind just goes straight to the service employees because they are the easy target, and your garbage budgeting and money management skills bring you to the bar or restaurant you shouldn't be eating at on a frequent basis.
Plus waiting and bartending is harder than a lot of people think. Most miscers against tipping are autists who wouldn't last a day lol.

Thankfully, more restaurants are acting against this nonsense, and are removing tipping. One of the bigger restaurateurs has banned tipping from all, or nearly all, his restaurants - Daniel Meyer
EDIT - I read some more of people's responses, and I'm convinced the majority of you are fuking idiots.
Not all states and provinces pay below minimum wage for servers/those in the service industry - this is some nonsense that is continued by restaurant owners and servers, as it benefits both. Many servers don't report tips come tax season, and I personally know a girl who can easily make 300+ on top of her above min-wage for no more than 5 hours of work. Stop thinking they are starving, poor helpless souls - a good chunk do the jobforthe tips.
If you go to bum-fuk middle of no where, I can completely understand tips being a means of survival, but don't fuking kid yourselves and eat up the sob stories.
And if you're going to use your stupid logic to support tipping, be consistent, and start tipping all the other service industry folks who sometimes have it even worse. Misc logic at its finest.

Well 2 minutes after payment, food is rushed to our table by this girl. I was like ok, no tip or minimal if any.
She kept coming every 10 minutes asking if we needed anything and finally we gave in and asked for napkins and to go boxes. Ended up tipping her 10% on a $45 bill. My girl was mildly upset that I tipped her atall.
Almost felt forced to tip cuz we ordered and paid at the register - was expecting a number to be called and we’d go get our food. But oh well. Maybe next time I can be a bich and do the experiment lol

I don't pay tips. Therefore I have more money. Therefore, I am in a better financial situation than you.
Imagine the amount of cope on your end as you literally give away your hard earned money out of social expectation. What a **** LOL
