Anybody who looks into Coronavirus and thinks the fearmongering purely boils down to trying to get Trump out of office fits is either an idiot, a trump supporter or most likely both.
The world exists beyond America. People are dying. Just because the last virus outbreaks have been contained doesn't mean this will be.
I know for trump supporters the idea of examining things critically is difficult (how else would he get elected based on lie after lie?), but did a country lock down their biggest cities and effectively ruin their export trade during the last outbreak?

The amount of people being infected and dying is not worth the type of reaction we are seeing from various media sources and politicians.

By the way, the test itself is almost $4000, and a positive result meaning someone had to go into forced isolation will cost them over $100,000, so there are a lot of people who won't get tested, at least not until a week or so after symptoms, by that time they've exposed thousands of people.

That being said, I think most of the real sell off is due to the possibility of Bernie possibly being elected POTUS. That happening would put wall street into a zombie like state.

The real issue is loss of productivity and lack of preparedness. USA has a large older population. USA does not have enough room in hospitals when every boomer gets pneumonia and goes severe or critical. Also, if average people get sick, they donโt go to work. They donโt make money, the company doesnโt make money, and productivity drops. This can easily light off the recession, which we saw a foreshadowing of these previous days.

The general sentiment Iโm reading everywhere is that investors are waiting for a re-entry point. Even if the market was overextended before, the risk/reward is there now, just a matter of finding the right time, and that will depend on risk tolerance - donโt want to buy in a dead cat bounce.

I was lining up all my numbers trying to make a solid argument.
But letโs be real. In 2 weeks we will all know if itโs something thatโs going to send millions to already overwhelmed hospitals, and tank our economy for a year or two.
And Iโm saying the above hoping to be completely wrong. The media is hyping this up without the numbers. But the numbers (R0 and case fatality rate in Wuhan vs rest of China) are actually scary.

Itโs difficult to say what the market is pricing in right now. There will be many more cases, itโs just a matter of how well we can control the spread, and how fast we can develop a vaccine (6mo+ Iโm guessing).
The fatality rate is higher than flu, but itโs still very low. And probably close to zero for healthy individuals.

Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesnโt really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesnโt mean anything either.

If it keeps spreading as quickly as it has been over the past few weeks then it has the possibility of becoming an apocalyptic event.

If the virus infects a large enough population, all kinds of gene mutations occur.
Don't forget, viruses are not bacteria. They are DNA/RNA that can change depending who they infect.
Give a virus that spreads so easily millions of chances to mutate and that's all she wrote.

Because it's a new virus that we don't have a cure for yet. Ebola was much worse because the morality rate was extremely high and would've been disastrous if it started infecting people on a global scale. The corona virus is probably similar to the flu, and highly contagious. But it seems like only elderly people/children/or those with health issues are dying to it. It's not going to be a plague that wipes us out though like how some are freaking out about
