I'm not saying it's impossible, but there has been data showing it has mutated at least once, but to less aggressive strain. It goes against a virus's nature to mutate into something worse, because it's life expectancy will decrease due to not having time to spread further.

I’m sure I’ll be forced to work from home as local businesses shut their doors. The gym will close, so will restaurants and most stores outside of major grocers (they will ration goods). The Dow will slip below 18k and we’ll officially be in a recession.

I have a full calisthenics set up in my back yard, as well as in my bedroom. Yep. Seriously, pull up bar, parallel bar, rings in the bed room. I have a lot of beef jerky I make myself too.



Na, seriously. Everything I do at the gym, I can do at home. Except legs, but can improvise. I just like going to the gym. It's about the only social thing I do.

Seeing how Eastern vs Western nations (both the governments and the citizens) have responded to this, I'm coming to the conclusion that a culture of collectivism is significantly better than a culture of individualism, when responding to a crisis.

I know that is predictable, but I didn't realize just how hard it is for individualist cultures to shift even temporarily towards collective effort. Even in the face of a blatant crisis.

The difference with coronavirus and WWII, is that you have a bunch of chicken littles panicking about a type of cold virus that produces mild symptoms in the majority of people, versus a clear and imminent enemy that wanted subjugate us. The vast majority of the population understands this. That’s why people are treating this like the Y2K scare.

I was going to address that in my post, but I hoped that people would understand that, I was talking about late 20th and 21st century western society.

The WW1 and WW2 generation were not rabid individualist. The expections of the family, and reputation in the community was far more important in the West, than it is in the 21st century. This is reminiscent of the World War Z plot where North Korea had beaten the zombie infection by closing their borders and removing the teeth of every single citizen within 24hrs — the “greatest feat of social engineering”. I imagine these differences between West and East are common knowledge among people whose work revolves around infectious diseases

Just FYI its just as likely to mutate into something far less deadly and spreadable as well. Even then its not like all the virus all at once trans-mutates into the new strain lol. Just means there will be more than one strain floating around.

Mass casualties and apocalypse conditions. Bands of "raiders" looting homes. Purified water and food become much more scarce. Bottle caps become currency. Guns and ammunition are nearly priceless.

Less travel, maybe some school/college closures, cancelling of of mass gatherings like sporting events and concerts. Assume in some harder hit areas employers will let their employees work from home.

More people will stay home and buy things over the internet too. Nothing apocalyptic though. The cases will continue to grow, but in a few months after people realize the world isn't ending due to virus that has a mortality rate of 0.5-1% the hysteria should die down. Warm weather should help as well.

people are starting to panic here in ga. Stores are packed. Idiots aren't even buying food or water. Everyones carts are stacked with toilet paper.. Saw some guy filling up 10 5 gallon containers with gas, he was driving a Tesla, idiots.

Tesla aside, honestly, in the event a city's healthcare system starts to fail and is locked down, making sure you have enough gas to try to leave isn't the dumbestworst idea. I'd rather turn myself in for quarantine in a city in crisis with a working hospital than be trapped in one where if I suddenly have a stroke, nothing is going to get done about it.

The ones who slay me are the people who think water and power is going to fail. It's a respiratory bug, not an alien invasion.

That's basically what is happening now. Good times = weak people. There is nothing really happening in the world so people freak out about stuff like this. And hurricanes when they come around 1-2 times per year.

How did we survive h1n1? It was a much larger scale outbreak.

There’s available quantitative data that tells us very clearly this virus is nowhere near what it’s being made out to be. “OMFG a new cold virus that might kill an old person or sick person out of every hundred people infected” like this isn’t the case with every common illness we already are exposed to on a normal basis. This is the furthest thing from a cat 6 hurricane. The real category 6 hurricane is the incredible stupidity of a very large group of people who think it’s a good idea to scream doomsday at the top of their lungs without any real reason to do so.
