The healthcare system I work at is very much taking this seriously
Rescheduling all routine appointments
Screening temp, questionnaire,for all people entering buildings. Additional screening at each site.
Countless virtual meetings and emails from administrators and infectious disease.
The people who are blowing this off as nothing are foolish. Having said that, panicking won’t do any good. Just exercise caution and be smart.
Personally, this weekend I’ll be going to the grocery store to get some things. Not because I think I’m gonna be barricaded for 6 months but I’ve discussed with my wife and we will be limiting trips to grocery stores. Only one of us will be going and our son won’t be going. We won’t be going out to eat much if at all, and if anything we would be getting take out.
Seriously, **** the people that are dismissing this entire situation which is very real, and if it was your relative who was over 70 with multiple risk factors you wouldn’t be laughing. Plus, it isn’t just the virus itself that’s concerning. If **** gets real in any one hospital that has the potential to severely bog down the system. Other illnesses that routinely occur aren’t going to magically stop because coronavirus comes around. Oh sorry you got shot today billy, our hospital is at full capacity. Look at freaking Italy. They’ve straight up announced they will be choosing who to treat based on factors such as age, survivability, “life years” sorry dude, your dads just gonna have to die because he is no longer productive to society but this other guy is. Anyone who thinks this doesn’t have the potential of happening here is delusional

I'm from the South. An area that is affected by both hurricanes and flooding. The biggest issue right now is people panicking. People withdrawing as much cash as possible from banks. People panicking buying food, water, TP, hand sanitizer, etc. I'm more used to mandatory evacuations as opposed to being quarantined. But its really not much different.
Here's the deal. You should have at least 5K in cash and enough food/water to be able to chill at home for 30 days without leaving. At all times. What's that translate to? Rice, beans, frozen meat/veg. Some canned goods. Etc. If you think a power outage is a possibility a small propane camping stove or gas grill with a tank of propane. Etc. Also enough water to last a month is a good idea as well. Just in case there is a boil advisory/local water is contaminated. (Happens in rural areas frequently). In the case of evacuations I'd say cars should be kept with a full tank. But with the virus being quarantined is a more likely outcome. If toilet paper is all sold out you can buy baby wipes still. Costco has massive packs for cheap.

For about $40 you can probably buy enough rice, dry beans and canned goods to last a month should you need to stay home. Most places you can buy a gallon of water for like 90 cents. My house was high enough so that I stayed dry. And I could have easily walked/took my Kayak to a few stores about a mile or two away. But the problem is stores that weren't flooded, were sold out of everything and/or were closed because nobody could make it there to 'open'. I was good to go but it was a reminder that at any given time you can be stuck home with no opportunity to resupply.

TBH my biggest concern with this whole thing is myself or the wife being unable to work for extended periods of time. Neither of our jobs can be done remotely as they are hands on. We've got enough set aside to go a couple months without either of us working, more if I pull from investments, but I would rather not burn through all of our savings if avoidable.

I never use hand sanitizer so I’m not worried about that being out. Hopefully I can find a thing of Lysol spray somewhere. Heading to warehouse type store after work and gonna stock up on my chicken. Think I’ll get 2-3 big packs and really hoping they’ve got my frozen broccoli in stock this week. I’m way more worried about food then tp and sanitizing wipes. Eating canned/processed crap will prob make me feel worse than actually being sick.

I have a few hundred Bison, chickens, thousands of gallons of fuel (gas, diesel and propane), unlimited well water, unlimited firewood and a generator, as well as a full solar system. I also grow all my own fruits, vegetables etc.. And have a few acres of greenhouses
If chit went down I'd be fine almost indefinitely srs. Could probably afford to support over 100 people if I had to (they would have to work though)

The person is smart but people are stupid.
This is the only thing to be afraid of, stupid people taking a trivial situation and making it into something worth crippling the global economy over.
People on this forum will soon be telling stories of how they got laid off or hours cut in droves but we wont be seeing any personal stories about "almost dying from COVID-19".
Personally, I am terrified for my friends and family in terms of their financial stability.
