The friends I hang out with make anywhere from 30k to 85k. Only one guy makes more than me, and it's the 85 guy. Ages range from 24-43 as well.

Part of it is just life.

I have found that as you build a family and career you start to shed friends, you have less time to kill so you prioritize on the ones you enjoy spending time with instead of the losers and whiners. New friends you develop along the way tend to be either work related, from your neighborhood, or through your kids school or activities.

You wind up with a social circle full of people of similar socioeconomic backgrounds, so if you are in a place where you are doing quite well then your life tends to fill up with people doing the same.

Maybe I am describing what people think white privilege is, IDK.

Will say though its easier to relate to people in your income bracket though. A conversation that consists of expensive hobbies/trips/experiences can be very off putting to someone that can't afford that life or is struggling just to put food on the table. At that point I may feel not so inclined to share some of my personal details and in some ways I think may delay people getting to know me.
Your post speaks to me so much.

I hang out with anyone and have friends all over the spectrum. I value loyalty and sincerity more than what their income level is. My longest standing friend is from 6 grade and she is literally my best 'hype man'. There is literally nothing that I feel that I cannot share with her. If I do well, I want all my friends to experience what I have and enjoy it with me as well.

I tend to keep my 'party' friends at an arms length. I've learned the hard way that there are people who are not sincere no matter how good you are to them or from what I've notice make snarky comments out of jealousy but still want to be included - I tend to hold back on letting them in on my personal business.

American 100k'ers, how much tax do you pay? Australians 100k'ers have to pay 35%.

I'm not sure if you brehs will believe this or not, but wealthy people are the biggest arseholes you will ever meet. And they make their money in ways you wouldn't think are possible, or legal.

You SHOULD NOT respect people with money. How do you think they got it in a dog-eat-dog world.
Some, not all.

I have a couple of family members on legit 7-figure salaries. Both of them did it honestly, worked some long hard hours and pretty much slept in their offices while they were moving up the ranks, but they didn't rip anyone off to get there. Just were genuinely better than anyone else.

Of course there are some *******s with money, esp ones who inherited and did nothing to earn it, but there are equally some who are broke for very good reasons.

Money is no indication of character.

Paid 28% in taxes last year but was overpaying tax % all year and got a $17k refund so only ended up being 24%.

Edit - Hang out with majority 100k’ers because friend group has become a lot of the guys I met in college or have worked with since. But still tight with core high school bros and only 3 out of 15 are 100k’ers. Don’t care about their income and we all still have plenty in common to maintain friendships.

I don’t know what all my friends make. But it’s obvious to tell which ones are over/under the 100k mark.
