Or maybe you want a mega-yacht that costs over 100 million dollars. Don't forget you'll have to hire a crew and staff it. When people say "Money doesn't buy happiness" they have no grasp on what it would be like to have actual fukk you money. I've known a few very wealthy people. And they were all extremely happy, generous and satisfied with their life-style.
lol this is a poor person's idea of what the rich do with their money

Agree. It will make life easier for sure though.

Embrace minimalist lifestyle and you can easily live on a part time wage. Time > money imo.

Yes. Other than portrayed in media, the vast majority of rich people are exactly the same as middle class people. The only difference is that they have enough money so that it isn‘t an issue anymore. And as you said, this is one if the biggest stressors gone. It means a relaxed life, way better relationships, more time for the family, etc.

Das it. Time is the only wealth anyone will ever have and you'll offer any amount of money to buy more at the end

You're right OP.

The issue isn't having enough money, it is always spending too much money. The debtor is always slave to the lender. People are forced to do things they can't stand to pay for things they thought they needed. Being over-leveraged no matter how much money you make, will be a negative stressor.

Let's say you have 0 debt. You make 60k a year, and live on 30k a year. Will making 500k a year working a very stressful job make you that much happier? Joe Rogan is already rich and can live the rest of his life on his current wealth. He just signed his work away for 100 million dollars. For what? Fancier jeans? A bigger house?

The fuk is the point of having all this extra unnecessary chit and money if you barely even use it? The goal is to get to a point where you can live off what you need, and make enough to do the things you actually enjoy daily. There's a reason studies showing making more than 75k has zero increase of happiness. It's unnecessary.

That figure depends on where you live. In California you need to make $100k a year just to afford a house.

Happiness for me mostly comes from learning things, accomplishing chit / solving problems, and the recognition of my peers. All of those things are connected to making more $$$, but money is really just on the side

That's coming from someone who has gone from making $40k in a chit warehouse job to closing in on $200k in just over 8 years. There are legit times where I reminisce about the old days of living in a $800/month basement suite and scrounging money together to buy food. Funny how you eventually forget about the negatives and only remember the good feels

Lol these lyrics always stuck with me. I grew up pretty middle class and had to struggle to get to where I am now at a consulting firm making decent money for my age. Now that I'm here, I realize this **** ain't what I want. To maintain my lifestyle, I'm going to have to give up my freedom being the client's bish for the rest of my life and never have time to enjoy my wealth outside of maybe the 3-4 weeks of PTO my partner overlords give me. In general, the more money you make, the more risk/responsibility you have, which also means more stress and is also probably why OP said money won't make you happy. Some people really thrive in this environment, but they're also usually some combination of materialistic, narcissistic, or extremely competitive/sociopathic, none of which I want to be a part of.

My new goal is to find a reasonable paying corporate gig that gives me enough time to stay healthy and pursue my hobbies. I live a pretty minimalist lifestyle and avoid materialistic/showy people like the plague, plus my field pays reasonably well, so I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find that balance once the job market recovers.

That show “alone” where people get thrown into the wilderness to survive longer than everyone else for the prize money is a good example of how being self sufficient without modern life obligations is preferable to the rat race/grind for a middle class lifestyle

Money isnt a cure for mental illness, obviously.

I do generally agree with the hedonic treadmill, and you basically get used to your circumstances and revert back to your standard level of happiness

So this is false. They've done studies which show poor countries tend to be happier than rich countries, because we tend to look at wealth on a relative scale.

In poor countries, where almost everyone is equally poor, people dont feel bad about being poor.

In rich countries though, everyone feels bad because they see people who have it better, even though their standard of living is higher than people in poor countries.

What does "poor" mean in those studies and what is it relative too? Is there a money value or money threshold where you are considered "poor" but still have sufficient resources to survive or share with each other? Because I guarantee you that in times of extreme economic duress, unemployment, natural disasters, disease, blight, famine, war etc, those with the means will be much better off and "happier" than those who don't.

Ive been “rich”( well, well off for a 24 year old), currently poor but stable, and honestly I feel content with where Im at. I have enough money to eat and live, but not enough to do anything crazy or eat out and go to bars and chit. I dont need more, but I want more, but Im not going to flip the boat trying to make it big. If it happens, it happens and it will be good, but I wont kill myself trying to become rich like I was.

I agree with OP, people ITT are just strawmanning him ("POORCELS AREN'T HAPPY! YOU NEED MONEY TO LIVEEE) yeah duh you fuking dolts. You're justifying your wageslave/neurotic rat race lifestyle that the far right corportists have shoved down ur throats to make u good little tax payers.

Never met a single "hustler" that wasn't a miserable wreak

BUT Money is best in your formative years to allow you to acquire good food, schooling, partnerships and low stress environment, granted their parents aren't fighting shtheads but that doesn't depend on income really. I do think kids that grow up with money are happier. Acquiring it as an adult does absolutely nothing in most cases and neurotic money chasing = misery or indifference.

People who chase money are wasting their two most valuable resources, theirtime andattention, it destroys your soul.

Majority of rich people are drugcels srs.

A typical job that isn't service sector or labor should pay enough. Wasting your time on higher educations, internships, climbing the ladder, overtime = misery and nothing can convince me otherwise.

You're trading time for money and time is worth far more after you factor out self sustenance, in the western world you can live on part time if you aren't throwing away your money like most american shtheads

Minimalism is the key.
