Those are not the countries that people are fleeing and trying to come into the USA are from.

Question is why are you not getting people from those countries? Answer is simple. Immigration is almost always due to economic reasons, exception is war (refugees). Norway and Ireland of today cannot be compared to Norway and Ireland of late 1800s. They were much poorer (likely poorer than most of Middle East which was under the ottomans at the time). It was so bad that they lost half of their population, people were literally starving. These immigrants faced a lot of hardships when they came to America, no doubt. But they were able to assimilate in 2 generations because they were Northern Europeans. Italians and Eastern European’s had a harder time assimilating and they were officially barred from immigrating in 1924. Let’s be honest here. Immigrants today, even assimilated, will likely not meet all your standard because they are non-white.

I used to view Americans as a subgroup of British, similar to Aussies an NZ. Then I saw how the demographics changed.

Until 1900, the vast majority weren't just White, they were British. Could you imagine living in an America solely of Brits? I remember how 'British' America still seemed when we got Poe in English class.

I don't think if I lived in Norway or Sweden or Japan or even Thailand and was an average to above average earner that I would want to come to the USA right now.

Not with the **** show this country has turned into the past 8 months. Most people in those countries all have a standard of living that makes it not worth the stress, hassle, and risk to relocate.

Now, poor people from C and S America or Mexico or Somolia? Hell yeah it is worth the stress and risk. They already have nothing. They see free stuff in the US.

Why not come here?

I’m all for secure borders and against illegal immigration, but this is patently false.

Massive immigration out of Germany in early to mid 1800s. There was massive immigration out of Ireland in mid to late 1800s in to early 1900s. Same with scandanvia. Huge numbers from Italy and Eastern Europe in early 1900s along with Jews which led to 1924 immigration act. Let’s be honest here.
