Because it's not that much about height if you reach a certain level but more about the feeling for the girl that the guy could protect them from other men. So a guy with the same looks at 180 lbs would be preferred even if he's "shorter" but still at a good height at 5'10 to 6'0 compared to a 6'3 guy at 180 pounds (again with the same facial aesthetics). Why? Because the "shorter" guy has a more imposing physique at that weight and is seen as more intimidating/dominant than the lanky 6'3 guy.

Girls are terrible at judging strength though. Remember working with a guy who literally competed in power lifting, but was built like a tree stump, and chicks in the office were shocked to find out he was strong. Meanwhile if a guy can't bench two plates but has noticeable ab and bicep definition women will think he is strong/fit. Low bf% is key

So a pudgy but strong 5'10 guy will lose to a lean, weaker, and athletic looking guy who is 6'1 all else equal every time. A jacked 5'7 guy will also generally lose to even a out of shape 6'2 guy most times.

I do agree though that too much focus on height here though. And once you reach a certain height threshold for women (5'10 or so) then yea being jacked can make you beat a DYEL lanklet

These height debates always make me chuckle. Obviously, being taller (up to a point) is more attractive than being shorter. Further, if you ask a girl via a survey what the ideal height for her partner is, it'll obviously be higher than what real life standards actually will supply. It's sort of like if I were asked in a survey what's the max weight I find attractive in a woman, it'll be lower than what real life actually will likely afford me.
