Somehow you have misunderstood if you thought the point was that it’s easy. It’s not easy and it’s not supposed to be.

Even with one of my own kids at home, this was one of the biggest hurdles. Kids inherently understand that if they work really hard at video games, they will get better at them. It doesn’t matter if they need to spend 8, 10, 12 hours a day, they will “work” until they get proficient.

But then they don’t understand why spending an hour in class every day on Algebra work isn’t enough to make them good at it.

Until a person adopts the same mentality towards their algebra that they do towards their video games, they’ll never understand the work ethic that some people put into academics that leads them places others think it’s too difficult to attain.

Yeah, I didn't read the entire thread (oops lol), just the first two posts. I don't disagree with it, my previous post was really in relation to those that think "it's easy" to be successful. More so a general statement as I've seen a lot of people that had it easy in life and are genuinely perplexed as to why some people struggle to "make it".

If I ever have kids, my kids will naturally be more prone to success due to growing up in an environment where education is valued/encouraged, they'll have more exposure to my professional life and could pick my brain whether it be for career advice or resume/interviewing advice, and also will be privvy to my professional network if they somehow ended up in the same field as I am. My siblings and I didn't grow up with that luxury, and so not all of us found success. My transition from highschool -> college was rough and I had a ton of growing up/learning to do.

You sound like some kind of cave person.

You honestly need to improve your reading skills.

If you want to be a professional person you are going to be in big trouble if you think my vocabulary, which is completely normal, is composed of "big words" you will not do well in a profession. You need to read more, novels, etc. You need to get a book or site about vocabulary. Finally, you need to read up on "reasoning skills" "arguments" and things like "persuasion techniques" and it will improve your life.

Learning is just like lifting, it is something you must do, and do it forever.

Start lifting too, because I know you don't do that either.

Quoted for truth. It describes so many people and family members I grew up with. It's never their fault and they're always victims of their circumstances. It's as if their own ****s were imposed on them and there's nothing they (want) can do about it.

yes it's a lot harder when the environment is fked. The only positive re-enforcement I got was from some teachers in school, everything else was constant negativity. It's harder but not impossible.

Good environments also breeds fk ups, look at incels in the west, they have everything 99% of the world desires, yet they complain day and night because some instasloot is not responding to their 1000 DMs..

I guess I should mention spoilers ahead in case you plan to read/watch and don’t want to know about it. The man who wrote the book grew up essentially as “poor white trash” as people in the suburbs would probably call them. His mom was a drug addict alcoholic who abused and neglected the kids. Rags to riches stories are a myth perpetuated to keep the working poor pacified with dreams of "one day it'll be my turn"

I remember driving around with my dad as a kid and he would yell at bums on the street saying "Get a job!" and I thought it was that simple. I couldn't imagine having no social support network on top of possible mental health and substance abuse issues. How are you supposed to get a job when you don't have a physical address or bank account, let alone clean clothes and basic hygiene needs. Let alone pre-requisites like diploma's/GED.

Same goes for people that just say "move out of the ghetto/trailer park", as if everyone has a car/credit/money for first months rent +security deposit.

And of course there's the penal system that brands you for life if you are a criminal.

Personal responsibility will get you so far, but rarely outside of your socioeconomic boundaries unless you have a really great support system.
I don't know either lol

I feel bad for you thinking that. It makes me realize how lucky I am to have grown up with a legit rags to riches story as a role model. My dad started at zero and by the time I was an adolescent, he was recognized as the best in the world at what he does. And he still is today. Srs.

If I hadn’t grown up like that, maybe I’d have your false outlook today.

Congrats on taking a single anecdote and applying it to an entire population. Strong availability bias

https://prospect.org/power/myth-rags-riches/
The latest report from Pew Charitable Trusts, "Purusing the American Dream," deals a stunning blow to any romantic notions of bootstrapping your way to the top. It turns out only 4 percent of those raised in the bottom 20 percent ever climb into the top 20 percent. Rather, people raised on one rung of the income ladder are likely to stay pretty close to it as adults. As the report notes, "Forty-three percent of Americans raised in the bottom quintile remain stuck in the bottom as adults and 70 percent remain below the middle class."

Yeah, too many people are taking a futility world view... not realizing that the futility world view is the thing that is holding them back

People are also set in their ways/ways of thinking too you know, takes a while to break out of it.

Doesn't help when Misc is being depressive either, creates a really nasty cycle of self pity, not just Misc either... there's a lot of places like that.

Long story short, if you're feeling this way, you NEED to stop frequenting such places to will reaffirm such negative world views. They're often like a pit, or imagine like quicksand, but it's not quicksand, it's other boyo's and they're pulling you down into the quicksand with their words, and before long you become a depressive boyo pulling down other boyo's who walk too close to the quicksand that you now live in.

No good will come from it

Wouldn't "learned helplessness" apply to all black people in the United States? They are constantly bombarded with the idea that the system is built against them and will always keep them down, surrounded by white boogeymen who subvert their every positive move.

Nope, nepotism knows no party affiliation. Rich people aren't rich because they "work harder", just like poor people aren't poor because they are lazy.

Are coal miners in west virginia poor because they aren't working hard enough? Is the single parent with two jobs not working hard enough?

Wagcel cucks simping for the rich is pathetic. Keep licking boots comrade, someday it'll be your turn.

I think one of the reasons this particular book is so effective is because he’s a white guy talking about (poor) white people’s problems. With that stated, maybe it would be best to leave that question to black people the handle for themselves.

No good will come from it
Very well stated.

Delusional as ****. You’re right you need to make the right choices to have achanceat success , you can’t blame burning out and becoming a addict on bad luck. That’s just pathetic.

But.... just because you do the right things doesn’t guarantee success. Even if you succeed , without the right resources you could very well be one or two steps away from complete disaster again. You have some control over your life due to cause and effect but 80% is randomness.

I love it when disconnected delusional ****s think climbing out generations of poverty or struggle is so easy. 100x if you’re family lies and steals from you or is just **** in general.

There’s one major resource and support system gone. I hope you have a lot of good “friends”......

No one is 100% self made and you’re not special for living at home during college to save and get your ******* stem degree. That’s life on easy mode. Scholarships aren’t handed out like they used to be anymore either. Tuition is outrageously expensive.

The more money and resources you have , the easier it is to recover from disaster or get yourself out of a bind.

I’m not angry or ranting but I don’t think you realize how hard it is to get back on your feet when life throws you curveballs if you’re all on your own.

Not really your fault , I’ll assume you had the average or above average upbringing and don’t know any different but I could be wrong.

I didn’t even need to read more than 1/4 of your post to tell we come from completely different backgrounds.

I’ll raise you though , when my dad passed last year in VA , he left me a share of my grandmothers house. My immediate family told me I better not come back and try to take my share or stay there because they’ll evict me and take me to court.

I never reached out to them , they reached out first. When I was still living there , my dad and I where the only ones paying for the small mortgage left on the house and the utilities with 10 people living there.

I explained to them I had no desire to return and to never speak to me again nor do I care about some share in a run down house.

Tell me I how I had control over my family trying to burn me after my dad passed ?

You ever think some people are in a tough spot because that’s the only way to keep trucking on ?

I respect the man whos still trying despite lifes short comings more than someone who spits on other people who have less than they do because “ they must have 100% made bad choices to be there , no way they’re trying to better themselves”.

I think you meant well posting this but I’d encourage you to rethink the black and white thinking.

You just said the same thing that I did. Maybe you were just confused about the meaning of my post.

Id like to read your thoughts on this matter:

https://forum.obnoxiousbrutes.com/showt...hp?t=179491783

Its basically the opposite of what you are preaching here lol
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."
